I removed the Burmese democracy activist -> 8888 Uprising easter egg

Ko Ko Gyi

edit

Created/expanded by Phyo WP (talk). Nominated by Hybernator (talk) at 00:16, 12 April 2014 (UTC).

  • The aricle was created on 7 April 2014, qualifying as new (5 days old or less) per the date of this nomination. It exceeds 1,500 characters. The hook is sourced in the lead of the article and in the Political career section of the article. Spot checking for copyvio reveals no problems. It may be functional to specify that the 17 years he spend in prison was not consecutive, as suggested in ALT1 below. NorthAmerica1000 00:40, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
ALT1: ... that Ko Ko Gyi, a prominent Burmese democracy activist who spent over 17 years in prison on multiple occasions between 1989 and 2012, may run in the next Burmese election?
  • I am troubled by the extremely close paraphrasing in the final paragraph—the phrase "he and his colleagues are best suited to steer the country’s political landscape" is a direct copy, and the "It is believed" construction that starts the paragraph is not only unencyclopedic but needs explanation: who believes this and from what evidence? (Under the circumstances, a full check for close paraphrasing is needed.) Irawaddy is described in the article as an "exile-run news organization"; as such, there have to be neutrality concerns. The "over 17 years" hook fact is in the article's intro, but does not have a specific reference (the note doesn't count, since it isn't referenced); if this is done by adding up individual jail terms, then each one needs to have its own reference by the end of the sentence in the article which gives the length of that particular term. There's also a bare URL (FN6), which isn't allowed by DYK rules, and something odd with the FN8 entry that needs fixing. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:51, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
  • I addressed the issues. Also inviting User:Phyo_WP for review. (1) Added the citation to the note about 17 years; (2) Fixed (FN6); (3) Fixed (FN8); (4) Removed the Irrawaddy's speculation about him being one of the best suited to run the country. Hybernator (talk) 00:45, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
  • This is my first DYK nomination and thanks for fixing the issues, Ko Hybernator. I agree with your editions and ALT 1. PhyoWP *click 01:43, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
  • Per the above discussion, this appears to be good to go using ALT1. NorthAmerica1000 12:14, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
