Malé Friday Mosque
edit- ... that a coral stone built minaret (pictured) braced with metal strips adjoining the Malé Friday Mosque appears like a wedding cake and is said to be in the form of a "funnel of a cruise ship"?
5x expanded by Nvvchar, SusunW (talk). Self-nominated at 02:43, 15 November 2015 (UTC).
Try these please:
- ALT1 ... that adjoining the Malé Friday Mosque is a minaret, (pictured) built of coral stone and braced with metal strips, which is tiered like a wedding cake and looks like the "funnel of a cruise ship"?
- ALT2 ... that the prayer carpet of the Malé Friday Mosque angles toward the corner of the room so that devotees can pray facing Mecca? SusunW (talk) 01:29, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
- pschempIt has been edited by User:SusunW and she has also suggested two alternative hooks. I have included her name as co-author.Nvvchar. 04:07, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
- Full review needed now that edits have been made and new hooks suggested. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:11, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
- The article is new enough, long enough, and neutral. I could not detect any copyright violations. Both ALT1 and ALT2 are used in the article, and are cited inline as required. QPQ done. Image is free use, as required, and used in the article. However, I still have concerns with the prose, that are serious enough to make me want to put this on hold, although I've corrected some minor ones (porites is a genus, not plural of porite, for instance). The second paragraph of the lead is quite confusing; and is it not best covered below? The "Location" section is only a sentence, that could be a lot more informative; where are those landmarks? Detail about location is not necessary, but if you are providing it, then I shouldn't come away more confused. On the same topic; what is the purpose of the image below that of the mosque? I think it's missing a little red dot or something. There are some weasel words when discussing the temple, and later with the capacity. Etc. I would strongly suggest getting help from the Guild of copy editors. It's a short article, it should be done soon, after which I will be glad to pass it. - @Vanamonde93 and Nvvchar: Second paragraph in the lede has been moved to body, but as it is a description of the significance to sea culture, unique architecture and cultural significance in terms often used by UNESCO, I fail to understand your confusion. I have expanded the location explanation, these are significant landmarks in Malé. Apparently the coordinates, though input into the infobox were not generating on the map, I have reformatted same. I disagree that there is peacockery in the prose, but will be happy to review again if you tell me specifically what your issues are. I corrected your spelling of "prey"—worship is not the same as hunting. SusunW (talk) 05:57, 20 December 2015 (UTC)
- SusunW, thank you for making those changes. Despite the improvement, I still feel that paragraph is a tad confusing. I would break it up into two sentences, myself. The "Location" section is much better; but surely you could add something like "In downtown Male.." or whatever? I never mentioned peacock; I said WP:WEASEL, which is quite different. I am still uncomfortable with the wording about the temple; who believes there was a temple there? And why does the very next sentence assume that the temple did, in fact, exist?
There aren't too many issues, but I don't want to get too far into the copy-editing, because then you would need to find a new reviewer to pass this; alternatively, if you are okay with that, I can do some copy-editing, and then you could wait for a new reviewer.I see that you have posted a GOCE request. Why don't we just wait for that to be completed, and I should be able to pass it quickly after that. Vanamonde93 (talk) 05:47, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
- Vanamonde93 The article has undergone editing by GOCE. In view of this, the original hook needs a slight change. ALT3 hook is suggested. ... that a coral stone built minaret (pictured) braced with metal strips adjoining the Malé Friday Mosque appears like a wedding cake with a wide base similar to a ship's funnel?Nvvchar. 01:33, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
- This is GTG; the prose has been improved adequately. I do apologize for the delay; this somehow slipped off my to-do list, even though I had not finished it. I would suggest ALT4 below, which is just a rearrangement of ALT3, and therefore does not, in my judgement, require a new review; it is simply more grammatical. However, if the promoter chooses to stick with ALT3, that is fine by me. Regards, Karellen93 (talk) 00:28, 31 December 2015 (UTC) Note: Karellen93 is a legitimate alternative account of Vanamonde93
