Prostitution in Indonesia

ALT1: ... that some of Indonesia's child prostitutes are sold into the sex trade by their parents?
  • Length okay, expansion okay. Not sure about reliability of source. Probably better to switch reference to the original UNICEF report. Comment in the lead that Approximately 30 percent of prostitutes in Indonesia are children is not supported by the source. Nor is comment in the main body that UNICEF estimates that 30 percent of the female prostitutes in Indonesia are below 18 years of age. UNICEF report says that At least 30 per cent of all female sex workers in Indonesia are under eighteen years of age. The problem is that (a) not all sex workers are prostitutes, (b) not all prostitutes are female and (c) I am unsure at what age people count as "children" in Indonesia. • Regarding A, Indonesia does not have legalized pornography, nor does it have phone sex operators. Escorts who perform sexual services would generally be considered part of prostitution. Regarding B, I seem to remember prostitute generally meaning a female, while gigolo tends to be for men. Regarding C, the age of majority in Indonesia is 18; however, the source uses the term Child prostitute when giving that figure. I will look for the ILO information and replace the Humantrafficking source with UNICEF. Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:14, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
  • Source replaced. The Post article counts people under the age of majority as being children. Still having trouble finding the ILO information. Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:25, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
