Is the article long enough - it only exceeds 1500 characters if you count spaces as characters too? Can an experienced DYK editor advise here?
It is a new article, nominated in good time and using inline citations. However, the sources are all off-line (and in Norwegian). The claim he was an ambassador is not cited, while the comparison of the Israel-Palestine situation to Nazi Germany needs a bit of clarification, in my view. When did he say this? What exactly did he say? Which of the three inline citations verifies what? Being an ambassador making such comparisons is interesting and controversial, but will offend some readers so I think the sourcing needs to be watertight first. - Comment - I can read Norwegian as I have spent some months there (not perfectly but well enough to see if Google translate is making sense), and have followed up these sources. There is already an article on Mr Anda in no.wikipedia which I have checked and is reasonably close to this new English one (I have created an interlanguage link there). It cites similar sources. The archives of Aftenposten are hidden behind a paywall, but there is a preview screen which shows the headlines of the articles at this link. Aftenposten is a well respected newspaper in Norway (similar to the UK Daily Telegraph or US New York Times). The headline in question translates to "Anda has a distorted view of Israel" so I am confident we can Assume Good Faith on these sources. - Have added a citation for Anda's period as ambassador to Israel. Regarding the clarification tag; I noticed that there are several quotes from newspaper stories from 1988 and 1989, cited in the Norwegian article on Anda, but I do not have ready access to these sources.Oceanh (talk) 12:36, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
- True, the quotes in the no.wikipedia article make it clear Anda's personal views in his 1989 book were heavily critical of Israel. However, it's strange that in 1989 he disassociated his government from exactly the same comparison, this time from a Norwegian colonel. It's clear he subsequently had a major reversal of view, but such a specific comparison could do with better verification, in my view, perhaps in a similar way to the norwegian article providing the quote. - Sorry for late response, and thank you for the JTA reference. According to the JTA report, it was Unifil commander Carlsson who made such a comparison in 1988, while Anda became involved in the aftermath, in handling reactions from Israeli officials. Maybe the proposed dyk-statement is inaccurate, as you suspected. I am sorry I can not access those references cited in the article that are offline or behind a paywall. Oceanh, you can certainly propose a new hook, as there seem to be problems with the current one. ALT (alternative) hooks are not at all unusual for DYK nominations, and can be added at any point during the review process. As this nomination is now over two months old, please propose one soon. - It is hard to suggest good hooks when not having access to the sources of the article. I think I am not able to contribute more to this, my role was only the initial nomination, and while not exactly "withdrawing" the nomination, it is ok with me to just let it "time out" due to no or slow progress.
