Waitomo Caves Hotel

  • At 1551 bytes, it just meets the size criterion, and the date checks out. So does the hook's source. However the rest of the material in the first paragraph of the Hauntings section, while recounted in the stuff.co.nz source, is covered there simply as claims made at a separate website, Theshadowlands.net. So saying that this is "according to stuff.co.nz" seems misleading. There also appears to be some very close paraphrasing or near verbatim copying here. E.g. compare our
  • "Some people have also reported experiencing the dining room going cold, laughter, the feeling of 'something' walking through them and the noise of a maid's trolley going along the long stretch of hall in the lower part of the hotel"
versus stuff.co.nz's
  • "The website says some people have experienced the dining room going cold, laughter, the feeling of 'something' walking through them and even the noise of a maid's trolley going along the long stretch of hall in the lower part of the hotel. ".
There are similar issues elsewhere. For example, our article says the Waikato Times reported an investigator had a certain experience, but the Waikato Times article only reports that she said she had. The article probably isn't impossible to fix, but I think it'd need quite a bit done to bring it up to scratch. --Avenue (talk) 15:30, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
  • Also, I concur with France3470's thought regarding the Kingseat Hospital nom that the hook's phrasing isn't ideal, and that applies here too. How about something like the following instead? --Avenue (talk) 04:05, 27 December 2011 (UTC)
  • Article is little more than a bit of fluff about paranormal rumors, mostly harvested from websites. An even greater concern is that the "harvesting" I describe consists mostly of verbatim copying. It would be possible to make this into a worthwhile article, by adding some content about the hotel (there's plenty of material out there: [1] and [2] and [3], for example) and converting the paranormal stuff into the original words of a Wikipedia contributor. --Orlady (talk) 17:18, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
  • What Orlady said. In its current state this should not be advertised on the main page, and DYK is not for copyedits or rewrites. Sorry. Drmies (talk) 00:40, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
