Yeinot Bitan
... that Israeli supermarket chain Yeinot Bitan, which opened its first location in 1995, has 185 branches as of 2019, making it second in the country by number of branches?Source: Sources 2, 3 in the article as of this writing, as well as this for the updated branch count- ALT1:
... that Israeli supermarket chain Yeinot Bitan purchased rival chain Mega in 2015, increasing its number of branches about three-fold?Source: Several (3, 4, 5, 6 in the article as of this writing)
- ALT1:

- This article is new enough and long enough. The original hook is cited inline and is acceptable but the ALT1 hook does not have a citation for the sentence in which the hook facts are mentioned. The article is neutral and I detected no copyright issues (sources in Hebrew). A QPQ has been done. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 07:01, 23 December 2019 (UTC)
- @Ynhockey: could you provide the inline cite for ALT1? It does seem more interesting than a raft of numbers. Also, would you like a picture of my local Yeinot Bitan store? It has the name on its sign, though it's also called Shuk Mehadrin. Yoninah (talk) 22:53, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Yoninah: It is based on multiple sources, as stated—they are 3, 4, 5 and 6 in the article. I think the first hook is more appropriate because the second is imprecise, but either is fine for me. Please let me know if you need specifics from sources. Also: Thanks for the image! —Ynhockey (Talk) 09:02, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- Ynhockey is it possible to make the second hook more "precise"? I just have reservations about ALT0 because it's not really a hook, just a statement of fact, and has too many numbers in it for comfortable reading. BTW that image was something I found at the Hebrew Wikipedia page he:יינות ביתן, which also has a fair-use logo of the supermarket chain. I haven't yet taken a picture of my local Yeinot Bitan in Jerusalem. Yoninah (talk) 12:25, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Yoninah: This is rather difficult, seeing as how the main source for the number of branches only keeps an up-to-date number. I don't remember a precise number in the other sources. In any case, I can propose another alt:
- ALT2:
... that Israeli supermarket chain Yeinot Bitan, tracing its existence to a wine shop opened in 1982, purchased the Mega supermarket chain, one of the largest and oldest in the country? - —Ynhockey (Talk) 21:23, 25 January 2020 (UTC)
- Cwmhiraeth, does ALT2 work for you? BlueMoonset (talk) 18:06, 26 January 2020 (UTC)
- ALT2 needs a citation for Mega being one of the largest and oldest supermarket chains in the country. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 19:51, 26 January 2020 (UTC)
- This should be in one of the four cited sources, but they are all long features that I don't have time to reread at the moment (my bad), so I propose another alternative:
- ALT3: ... that in 2015 Israeli supermarket chain Yeinot Bitan purchased rival chain Mega, becoming the country's second-largest by number of branches?
- This source: [1] makes almost exactly this statement. Quote:
- In English (bad sentence structure is just a result of a literal translation): Bitan acquired Mega three years ago, which went insolvent, for ILS 495 million. With Mega's acquisition, numbering 120 branches, Yeinot Bitan turned into Israel's second-largest food vendor, after Shufersal.
- The only difference is that a clarification is required that it's the second-largest by number of branches, because it's not second-largest by revenue for instance (demonstrable through other sources in the article).

- ALT3 verified and cited inline (I read Hebrew). Rest of review per Cwmhiraeth. ALT3 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 20:46, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
- Ynhockey, Yoninah, there are a couple of things that kept me from promoting this nomination. The first is that the implication of ALT3 is that the acquisition of the Mega in 2015 is what propelled Yeinot Bitan to second-largest by branches, yet this isn't mentioned at all in the acquisition paragraphs, and the Ynet source above, while listed in that paragraph, is used to support a completely different statement. Further, the second-largest, when it is mentioned, refers to 2019, not 2015, and has a completely different source. It isn't enough that a source exists, or is somewhere in the article: DYK rules are firm that the fact must be supported by the requisite source (and it should be at the end of the relevant sentence). So if you want to use ALT3, the second-largest fact needs to be added to the acquisition paragraphs. (Should it be "Mega" or "Mega BaIr"? Shouldn't the longer form of the name be used here?) BlueMoonset (talk) 03:52, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
- Hi BlueMoonset,
- I have added the new information/source to the relevant paragraph, in a way that I hope/believe satisfies the criteria.
- As for Mega vs. Mega BaIr, actually it's more correct to say Mega. Mega BaIr was Mega's leading brand by a long shot, but actually the acquisition was of the entire Mega chain.

- @BlueMoonset: The hook facts for ALT3 are now clearly referenced at the end of the sentence and this nomination should be good to go. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:09, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
