Template name

edit

I notice that the template name was changed from Template:by, but although the new version is more understandable at a glance, it hardly saves much text space ({{Baseball Year|2005}} takes up almost as much space as [[2005 in baseball|2005]]), maybe Template:BaseYr would be a slight improvement? Well, actually (according to the page history) it was never actually named Template:By, that was just a shortcut. The reason I've been changing it is because I personally, although {{by}} is much shorter, think {{by}} can be confusing/misunderstandable (sic) to editors who aren't familiar with the template; by changing it to {{Baseball Year}}, although it takes up a few more bytes, can be much clearer. As for Template:BaseYr, sounds fine with me, takes up less space but still clear.   jj137 22:19, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
That's fine; if you care to change it, I'd appreciate it, as you seem to be handling more of the template cleanup. MisfitToys (talk) 22:56, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm going to propose the idea at WT:MLB to get a wider consensus on what to do, if that's OK.   jj137 (talk) 02:03, 23 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Use restrictions per TFD

edit

In Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2010_March_16#Template:Baseball_Year (and a related discussion), the consensus was that the use of the template should be restricted to non-prose portions of articles, such as tables and infoboxes. The documentation of the template has been updated accordingly. --RL0919 (talk) 13:41, 31 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
