The article title should not have the en-dash in it; please replace

with

to bypass this redirect. Thanks! — OwenBlacker (Talk) 16:25, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Please replace Flag of Austria-Hungary 1869-1918.svg
with Flag of Austria-Hungary (1869-1918).svg
, because the file was renamed. Thanks, --Tacsipacsi (talk) 17:59, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
- Done Note, @Tacsipacsi: both of these are valid filenames, you may want to nominate one for deletion on commons. — xaosflux Talk 03:06, 15 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi; after discussion in the Austria-Hungary page, it's been established that the red-and-green emblem that was displayed here as its national flag was in fact only a civil ensign used only by civilian ships. Could you please make the change in the Template as well, to File:Flag_of_the_Habsburg_Monarchy.svg as was done in the main article after discussions? Thanks a lot. 213.245.147.96 (talk) 20:55, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
- In the main article not that change was performed what you describe here, but both the flags of the Austria and Hungary was presented, so no support to only change to Austria's flag.(KIENGIR (talk) 00:32, 10 September 2020 (UTC))

In Talk:Austria-Hungary, a consensus has been reached on the suppression of File:Ensign of Austro-Hungarian civil fleet (1869-1918).svg from {{flag|Austria-Hungary}}
, {{flagicon|Austria-Hungary}}
, {{flagicon|Austro-Hungary}}
, {{flagcountry|Austro-Hungary}}
, {{flag|Austro-Hungary}}
, and that no flag should be displayed in its place, as no national flag existed. Could you please proceed to such removal? Thank you. 213.245.16.198 (talk) 19:48, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
- I have inserted File:Flag of Placeholder.svg in order to maintain spacing. Is that acceptable? If not, there may be a way to use {{Noflag}} to achieve the desired effect. – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:42, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
- I would say its a bit early to say "consensus has been reached". + the black-yellow flag mentioned above was sometimes used as a de-facto national flag. --Havsjö (talk) 14:53, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Jonesey95:,
- please undo your edit, discussion is ongoing, until no new consensus reached for this, as well for infoboxes, this should not be changed.(KIENGIR (talk) 21:26, 15 September 2020 (UTC))
- OK, reverted. No problem. – Jonesey95 (talk) 21:29, 15 September 2020 (UTC)

Change
flag alias-navy = Ensign of Austro-Hungarian civil fleet (1869-1918).svg
to
flag alias-navy = Austria-Hungary-flag-1869-1914-naval-1786-1869-merchant.svg
since its supposed to be the same as "naval" Havsjö (talk) 19:59, 18 February 2022 (UTC)
Consensus on flags
editThis edit request has been answered. Set the |answered= or |ans= parameter to no to reactivate your request. |
In Austro-Hungary page achieved consensus about this country wasn't have de iure national/state flag. The flag has been removed from the infobox, and the intricacies of using flags in this country are explained in a separate article (flags of Austria-Hungary). Contrary to this, the template has not been brought into line with consensus and still uses the Merchant Navy flag. I would like to remind you that this flag was not the state flag, it was never used on the Austro-Hungarian land territory, and using it in the infobox repeats the popular modern misconception with the equation of this flag with the national flag (this can be compared with the misidentification of southern cross with the "state flag" of Confederate States of America). Therefore, I present the options to adapt the template to the consensus in the following proposals:
- Use of the flag of the reigning Habsburg dynasty - the most popular flag used in the country to represent the country as a whole (often flown independently, used in embassies and legations, and in numerous propaganda materials). (in my opinion, the best solution)
- Use of hybrid graphics - a combination of the two most important Austro-Hungarian flags representing the 2 main parts of the state (Cisleithania and Transleithania)
- No flag option - since Austro-Hungary did not have an official state flag, we do not use it
- Use of a coat of arms instead of a flag - contrary to the flag, Austria-Hungary had an official coat of arms (now used in the article)
- In the case of part of the template referring to the Austro-Hungarian army, the change to the army banner (which had official status in the military - presenting the army under the flag of the merchant navy is currently bizarre)
please do not discuss the merchant navy flag here again as a "state flag", as it has already been recognized as not having that status and there has already been consensus there. The request concerns the adaptation of the template to the current consensus. Sumek101 (talk) 06:49, 30 May 2022 (UTC)
Therefore, the following arrangement would best reflect the specificity of this country:
main flag:
austria-hungary
flag variants: cisleithania transleithania merchant navy navy naval army
Sumek101 (talk) 08:23, 30 May 2022 (UTC)
- I've restore the label "civil", as its removal caused incorrect flags to be displayed. Mjroots (talk) 10:00, 10 July 2022 (UTC)

Please create the following templates:
Template armed forces link to Austro-Hungarian Armed Forces (probably by creating the parameter |link alias-military=
, to result in {armed forces|Austria-Hungary}}
)
Template air force link to Austro-Hungarian Aviation Troops (probably by creating the parameter |link alias-air force=
, to result in {air force|Austria-Hungary}}
)
Cisleithania

I'd like to request that Template:Country data Cisleithania be created, as the equivalent template for the other half of Austria-Hungary, Template:Country data Lands of the Crown of Saint Stephen, exists. It would also enable linking directly to Cisleithania, instead of the current system ({{flag|Austria-Hungary|cisleithania}}
), which links to Austria-Hungary. Rowing007 (talk) 18:03, 17 March 2023 (UTC)

How is this controversial? I am proposing that Template:Country data Cisleithania be created, as the equivalent template for the other half of Austria-Hungary, Template:Country data Lands of the Crown of Saint Stephen, exists. Rowing007 (talk) 19:27, 21 April 2023 (UTC)- To editor Rowing007: is there any reason why you cannot create that template yourself? Why do you need a template editor to create it? P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 09:14, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Paine Ellsworth: Per WP:ER,
"Civil"
edit@Paine Ellsworth I don't understand this edit. Austria-Hungary never had a "civil flag". "Civil Ensign" (of merchant fleet) and "Civil Flag" (of country) are two different things. The ensign posted here is the flag of the civil fleet but not the "Austria-Hungary Civil Flag". Sumek101 (talk) 17:00, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
- To editor Sumek101: about a year ago up in [this section] on this talk page, you requested the present layout of flags. Later in July an editor restored the label "civil", "as its removal caused incorrect flags to be displayed". Adding the "var4 = civil" just made it visible on the template page. Evidently "civil" is still used, and is short for "Civil Ensign of the merchant fleet". It is not meant to mean anything else. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 18:49, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
