The image distracts in the article page. I suggest no image be used, to be consistent with "Culture of XYZ" wiki articles on numerous countries. I checked pages for Culture of Japan, China, France, England, Germany, Italy, Russia, Brazil, United States, Mexico, and other countries with large populations. The template is rarely used, and when used the template is clean, without image. For a consistent experience to wiki readers, I favor same style.

If image must be used, please explain why an image should be used only for India? Is it wiki MOS requirement or just personal preference?

Finally, if an image inclusion is agreed, I urge we vote on it. I, for one, prefer image of the national flag - as is the case with Culture of the Netherlands page. ApostleVonColorado (talk) 02:40, 8 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

IP 1.186.211.166, why are you undoing me changing the pic? (2600:1001:B01F:57AA:88C9:9E38:F39D:74A1 (talk) 20:36, 31 December 2016 (UTC))Reply

How can you change the pic on your own, without building any consensus? This is against WP rules and is considered disruptive. Thanks. 1.186.211.166 (talk) 20:39, 31 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
mutual recriminations
I only changed a pic. Did not do anything else. Now, you are the only person that has an issue. Please let me know what the issue with my pic is? (2600:1001:B01F:57AA:88C9:9E38:F39D:74A1 (talk) 20:41, 31 December 2016 (UTC))Reply
NO, the onus is on you to tell, what is wrong with the original pic. You have changed the pic, not me. I have restored it to the ORIGINAL. Stop changing the pic on template before building consensus here. 1.186.211.166 (talk) 20:42, 31 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
I already did on my edit summary. Flag image is already on the bottom of the template. (2600:1001:B01F:57AA:88C9:9E38:F39D:74A1 (talk) 20:45, 31 December 2016 (UTC))Reply
Folks, both of you have blown past the 3 revert rule at this point. I suggest that both of you hash out your flag issue here before touching it again, because the result will likely be this template getting semiprotected, and then neither of you will be able to edit it. Karunamon 20:48, 31 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, the IP user is neither letting me know the reason for opposition, but keeps reverting. (2600:1001:B01F:57AA:88C9:9E38:F39D:74A1 (talk) 20:54, 31 December 2016 (UTC))Reply
And he/she is changing IPs. (2600:1001:B01F:57AA:88C9:9E38:F39D:74A1 (talk) 20:55, 31 December 2016 (UTC))Reply

The other IP is not giving her reasons for changing the original pic and us changing the PIC without building consensus. 106.67.6.134 (talk) 20:56, 31 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

I mentioned it on my edit summary. The pic for Indian flag is already mentioned on the bottom of the template. (2600:1001:B01F:57AA:88C9:9E38:F39D:74A1 (talk) 20:58, 31 December 2016 (UTC))Reply

Please specify, why are you pushing your POV without building a consensus. That is not how Wikipedia works. Thanks. 106.67.6.134 (talk) 21:03, 31 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

What is the reason for your opposition? I gave you my reason. (2600:1001:B01F:57AA:88C9:9E38:F39D:74A1 (talk) 21:06, 31 December 2016 (UTC))Reply

Please give a reason why are you pushing your POV. Why changing the original PIC without consensus? 106.67.6.134 (talk) 21:09, 31 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

I already mentioned it twice above. You did not tell me why you are opposing it. (2600:1001:B01F:57AA:88C9:9E38:F39D:74A1 (talk) 21:11, 31 December 2016 (UTC))Reply

This conversation is going in circles. Why not open a request for comment about which flag should be on the template, and have the discussion there? These constant reverts are likely to end with both of you blocked, regardless of the reason. If you're interested, I will set it up. Karunamon 21:13, 31 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

User talk:Karunamon, can you do it on my behalf? I am not sure how to do it. Or can you let us know which version you choose? I will accept it. (2600:1001:B01F:57AA:88C9:9E38:F39D:74A1 (talk) 21:15, 31 December 2016 (UTC))Reply
Not a problem. In the spirit of the 3 revert rule, I'd suggest setting the flag back to whichever one it was before this dispute started. @106.67.6.134:, is this acceptable? More importantly, can you both agree to keep hands off this article until that time? Karunamon 21:18, 31 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I will not touch it, until finalized by you. (2600:1001:B01F:57AA:88C9:9E38:F39D:74A1 (talk) 21:21, 31 December 2016 (UTC))Reply
Yes, please restore it to the original version before recent vandalism, started on 26 December. Thanks. 106.67.6.134 (talk) 21:24, 31 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
Changing the flag to a relevant image is not vandalism, and it isn't assuming good faith to accuse someone of that. Please keep this in mind. This is a style dispute, nothing more. @2600:1001:B01F:57AA:88C9:9E38:F39D:74A1:, if you could detail the reason why you feel the other flag works better down below, that would be excellent. Thank you much much for this User:Karunamon. Greatly appreciate it. (2600:1001:B01F:57AA:88C9:9E38:F39D:74A1 (talk) 22:17, 31 December 2016 (UTC))Reply

RFC about the flag on the template

edit

Should this template use the official Flag of India, or the Ashoka Chakra symbol for its header? 21:32, 31 December 2016 (UTC)

RFC closed per direct policy, thanks @Kautilya3:. Karunamon 21:02, 5 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • I changed it for several reasons:
  1. The Ashoka chakra has more importance to Indian culture and history, than the modern Indian flag.
  2. Indian culture developed long before the modern state and its flag was introduced.
  3. The Ashoka chakra represents Indian history, cultural development, and religious development.
  4. The flag is already on the template. At the bottom of the template it is mentioned. It is repetitive to have it twice.

  1. The Indian flag is the most recognized symbol of India.
  2. The template is about modern day Republic of India not historical India or ancient India, the flag represents modern Indian republic.
  3. Ashok Chakra is not the only symbol, and its populariy varies wihin India itself. There are many other symbols as well, like the 'Lion Capital' or the 'Red fort', how can one be prefered over others?
  4. Repetition of flag on the template is not really an issue. Its a norm on such other templates on Wikipedia. 1.186.211.166 (talk) 05:12, 1 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
