Template talk:Graph:Lines

"This graph draws one or more independent numeric data series as lines. The data must be stored on Commons' Data namespace or come from Wikidata Query Service." Protip: see https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Tabular_Data for how to set up data. II | (t - c) 19:34, 4 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Preview working but view not

edit

Hi, I've written the following usage of this template on this site

{{Graph:Lines
| table=Commons Milestones.tab
| type=time
| xField=date
| series="millionfiles"
| title=Files on Wikimedia Commons
| xAxis=Date | yAxis=Million Files | yGrid=y | width=500
}}
Files on Wikimedia Commons. See or edit source data.

This works fine here and also on commons in the site preview but not after saving the page! What could cause this? -- MichaelSchoenitzer (talk) 22:12, 3 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Semi-protected edit request (to sync w:Template:Graph:Lines from mw:Template:Graph:Line) on 19 March 2021

edit

Request to synchronize template code from mw:Template:Graph:Line, as it was made for example on c:Template:Graph:Lines by contribution c:Special:Diff/544039989. Suggested version contains certain improvements, including fix chart of extra blank space at the left of chart caused by Vega 2 behaviour with custom defined signal (namly "signals": [{"name": "rightwidth", "expr": "width + padding.right"}] in this case)

Sorting and decimals

edit

I want to improve the graphs generated from Template:World Rugby Rankings in two ways. First, by placing 1 at the top, not the bottom. Second, by removing decimal points. See for example New Zealand national rugby union_team#Record (New Zealand's historical rankings). Is there a way to do either of these? Greenman (talk) 23:45, 1 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Greenman. Regarding your question about inverting y axis, example you could find at mw:Template:Graph:Lines/testcases#Testing_for_inverted_y-axis, however that approach requires specifying explicit xMin and xMax parameters (of course it would be more convenient to accomplish that task by some simple parameter, by just saying "do invert it", but for now such kind of parameter is absent). Regarding your question about decimal point, I guess parameters xAxisFormat and yAxisFormat could be helpful (you could refer Vega Axes format documentation for further details). 84.47.179.91 (talk) 18:10, 2 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
I have gone through and sorted this. I modified the template and introduced three new parameters to invert the y-axes and set the tick marks correctly. They should look better now. --Bob247 (talk) 17:14, 28 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hide/reposition legend and "edit data"

edit

I am using this template to generate polling graphs in pages like Opinion polling for the 2002 New Zealand general election, but I'm having a slight problem. 1) The "See or edit raw graph data" takes up a lot of room because it is misplaced. Is there an argument to manually reposition it? Is it also possible to hide it, as I'm using twice the same data on two adjacent graphs? Also, because these graphs use the same colors, it may be convenient to hide the key in one of them (It'd actually be helpful for a slightly different layout), how can I do it? Will this be fixed any time soon?

edit

We have been seeing "Graphs are temporarily unavailable due to technical issues" across pages that use this template for some time now. Will it be fixed soon, or is this a permanent disabling of the template? Thanks. Bob247 (talk) 14:09, 28 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
