editYou guys should get with the times, I'm pretty sure he's a regular character now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.220.131.191 (talk) 03:21, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Getting bloated?
editI was thinking that with the episodes, the template's starting to get a bit bloated. I was thinking that a "season one" template might be better for eps. Thoughts? Ace Class Shadow; My talk. 19:45, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
- Agree. Just like with "Lost" for instance a new template for the episodes looks better, especially since there won'T always be just 11 episodes on there, with 22 to 26 (don't how many Heroes is going for) it would look way too large. -- Jinxo 21:54, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
- Excellent. I'll get to work on it around 1:50 (UTC) Ace Class Shadow; My talk. 01:20, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
Separation of Main Characters and Supporting Characters
editMany of the characters on the template (Ted Sprague; The Haitian; Eden McCain to name a few) aren't main characters, but are supporting characters. Should we seperate them into two sections? - Katanin 13:22, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- That could work. Ace Class Shadow; My talk. 20:47, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, when all was said and done, I realized that the characters cluttering the template just as much as epidsodes chould. I've split them off into Template:Heroes characters. Ace Class Shadow; My talk. 21:54, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- Where does the distinction beteween main and supporting characters come from ? the opening titles ?Clodomir17 16:21, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
I think that the distinction between main and supporting depends on how often they appear and/or their significance to the storyline. Some are obviously more important than others. With that said, I think that Simone Deveaux should be swapped with Ted Sprague. He appears in more episodes than she does, and it is his power that causes "the bomb", making him very significant. Simone is almost completely inconsequential. She's just the annoying "love interest" that has no bearing on anything. I will change it for now, and if anyone disagrees, then we can discuss it further here. Godheval 15:05, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- Simone main, but Sylar not? Seriously, now. How does that work? So I moved him into main as well. Godheval 15:12, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- Your changes have been reverted. Whatever you (or anyone) might think of a particular character's importance, it isn't our decision as to who is "main" and who isn't. Only the producers can make that call. --Ckatzchatspy 18:00, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- I assume that you are judging who is "main" and "secondary" by who appears on the NBC heroes page and who doesn't, but I don't think that's a valid way to determine it. The reason is that they would not want to reveal Sylar and Ted from the start of the series. That does not mean that Sylar and Ted would not be regarded as major characters after their introductions. Even if the producers themselves were contributing to this page, I'd bet they'd agree with my designations. So I think that a consensus here amongst the wiki editors should determine who is considered main and secondary. It's really just common sense, not merely my opinion. Anyone else? Godheval 02:04, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

- Sorry, but it is your opinion. "Consensus amongst the wiki editors" does not apply to making judgements about which characters are main characters and which ones are secondary characters. It also doesn't apply to making assumptions about NBC's intentions. If the network or the production company changes an actor's status, then our articles will change to reflect that fact. (An example of this would be the series Jericho, where one actor was promoted to regular status half-way through the season.) Acting as you suggest is contrary to several Wikipedia guidelines and policies. --Ckatzchatspy 04:15, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
- Except that even the official site does not designate main and secondary characters, and so it is your (or whoever's) opinion that the characters listed are the "main characters". If it's going to be conjecture either way - and since NBC producers will NEVER contribute to this page - the decision might as well be made by us. I really don't understand the argument here, other than to lord over an article like wikipedians are famous for. We can go back and forth on this all day with silly RV wars, or we can try to find a consensus. Your call. No, actually, it's not. Other editors want to jump into this discussion, please? Godheval 09:40, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
- Godheval, why are you persisting in this? The onus is on you to find verifiable proof that Sylar etc. are considered "main" characters by the network and the producers. You cannot just decide for yourself, and portray them as such. To do so is contrary to long-established Wikipedia guidelines on adding original research and unsubstantiated opinions to articles. --Ckatzchatspy 16:47, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
- For the reasons I've already explained. The designation of "main" and "secondary" characters was chosen by whoever created (or later edited) the template. It has no basis in anything - at least nothing on the Heroes website. Certain characters appear in the banner image, but that doesn't designate them as "main" characters. Since there is NO official designation, the job falls to the editors here. It's pretty simple. Whatever, though. I no longer care. Godheval 23:17, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- What happens when a main character dies? Do we reclassify? The Daily Show template has a separate category for former cast members. (?)

- How can Simone be a main character and not Ando? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.252.225.96 (talk) 22:23, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
- Scratch that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.252.225.96 (talk) 22:26, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
- Simone is a main character as classified by her contract as a regular by NBC for most of the first season. Although her character was not that important I would like to see her get the recognition that she deserves. I moved her back with the other contract regulars. Template Image
editI whipped up this little Heroes logo for the box after seeing it being done elsewhere, just wondering if anybody thinks it's a good idea (hard to see with a transparent background, sorry)...
I previewed it on the current gray and it works, but it'd be clearer on black (unless it was changed for a reason). Just wondering, is there a way to make an image link to an article? It'd be silly to have it linking to the actual image. Anyway, if it's a good idea; great. If not; oh well, just wanted to see if we could "define" the template a little. Cheers. Goroliath
Design change
editI've tried to improved the design of the template (and added some articles who wasn't included). I'm not sure aboute the color though (tried to use the same as in the character box), but as a concept I do think this is much nicer. Pjär80 13:47, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
- I changed the grey areas to gold, in an atempt to try to match the colors of the upcoming DVD release... Pjär80 13:52, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
- In my opinion, the colors are very hard on the eyes. --Pinkkeith 15:26, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
- I have reverted the colours to the previous version. Matching the colours of the DVD shouldn't be at the expense of readability. – ARC GrittTALK 17:05, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
Double heroes
editWhy is the article Heroes (TV series) linked to not only in the top bar of the template, but also in the first line? I think the later should be removed. Joiz A. Shmo 04:11, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- That was my edit... I agree that normally we would avoid the duplication - and in fact, this template did so until a week or so ago, when Heroes: Origins was announced. While there is a link to the main show in the title bar, esthetically it looks odd to list Origins while not listing Heroes. Thoughts? --Ckatzchatspy 05:07, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm that's a good point. I don't really mind lol. oh and also, couldn't we remove the characters link under production, and put a link in the Major and Minor character headings? (example below - however, the blue link and the grey background colour, rather clashes. not very nice.) — « hippi ippi » 13:05, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
Noah Bennet
editThere seems to be a disagreement over whether to use "Mr. Bennet" or "Noah Bennet". A discussion on the Noah Bennet article's talk page debated this point, and the end decision was overwelmingly in the favor of naming the article "Noah Bennet". Therefore, that's where the article is. It makes absolutely no sense to have different names on the article and the template. I will change the template soon if nobody comes up with a reasonable counterargument. --dws90 19:53, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
Colorings
editWe cannot have colors in the infoboxes and whatnot, as it isn't encyclopedic. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 21:49, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
Elle
editThe character Elle continues to be added although the character has yet to be introduced in either the series or graphic novels, let alone have a enough material to merit a "main character" or even a wiki page. Until a page exists and the character appears on the show, she (or he?) should be left out. Upon appearance questions a far as that character's significance can be asked, and where that character should be placed in the nave box. 66.109.248.114 23:57, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- "Main character" is a designation based on how the network and production company treat the actor, not our perception of importance. Kristen Bell is a main character according to multiple references from NBC, so she has to be included (as with all other main characters.) Hope this helps. --Ckatzchatspy 05:39, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- I understand if she wiil be in the future a main characer. She has yet to appear on the show, and has no page. She can be listed as a main character on the main page, but without a page of her own, she doesn't belong on a navbox (nav box's are use to direct to otehr pages). 66.109.248.114 18:39, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- Arrgh... that's what I forgot. As a main character, Elle does have to be on the navbox; it is natural to expect that readers will want information. However, my mistake was in not linking to her character description. (It doesn't have to be a separate article.) Apologies - I've restored the entry and added a link. Hopefully this will address your concerns. Thanks. --Ckatzchatspy 19:18, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
Alejandro Herrera
editHow is Maya a main character and him not? Lex94 Talk Contributions Guest Book 00:46, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- Studio contracts - hers is a regular role, his isn't. --Ckatzchatspy 10:06, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Simone
editSimone isn't a main character any more, and never really had been if you think about it. Iv tried changing it, but it got changed back. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.1.189.157 (talk) 20:47, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- Simone Deveaux may not have had a significant role in the story, but the concept of main characters and supporting characters is determined by studio contracts. Tawny Cypress was a contract regular as the character of Simone Deveaux. If you plan on removing her from them main characters listing, then other disputes like Maya Herrera being a main character and Bob Bishop not being a main character cannot be resolved as easily. Roogle (talk) 14:21, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Criteria For "Other Characters"
editWhy is Hana Gitelman and Daphane Millbrook more important than Daniel Linderman and Ted Sprague? What criteria do we use to specify wha characters are important enough tp be on this list? Honestly, I think it should be expanded, because the supporting cast of Heroes is pretty important. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.42.66.231 (talk) 08:53, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
- This is a "navbox". The main criterium form something being listed is to have a seperate article. Subjects like characters that do not have their own article are not linked on the navbox. They usually reside on a list page which is linked in the headers. — Edokter • Talk • 12:44, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
- Where did you come up with the "separate article" criteria? I read navbox but didn't get anything that might suggest the restriction you are suggesting. Padillah (talk) 18:02, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
- Navbox stands for "navigation" box. It's purpose is to link articles that belong to a certain subject, not to link every possible subject itself. As WP:NAVBOX states: The goal is not to cram as many related articles as possible into one space. If we start including all (minor) characters that already have a place on the list, the template would grow tenfold by the end of the day, making the navbox unworkable. — Edokter • Talk • 19:07, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
Current and Former characters
editI think it would be a good idea to separate the characters who no longer have a role on the show and put them in a "Former Main Characters" section of the template, such as Isaac Mendez and Simone Deveaux. Do people agree? Vidgmchtr (talk) 03:15, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- No. We do not differentiate former and current characters, as that goes against WP:FICTION. When I watch the Season 1 DVD, they are still current... — Edokter • Talk • 15:27, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
What about Meredith?
editI just added a page for her. How can i add a template box for her?
Samuel
editI added him to the template as a black link (since it's too early for a page) but it got reverted. But Kneppner is a regular and his character is named Samuel; the press release for Orientation says "ROBERT KNEPPER JOINS THE CAST" (and separates him from all the guest stars) and later says "While the heroes adjust to their new surroundings, a mysterious carnival clan, led by ringleader Samuel (Robert Knepper), sets their sights on familiar faces". Silurian King (talk) 13:38, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- Remember, this is a navbox. It should only contain links to existing pages. If there's nothing to link/navigate to, adding it is pointless. — Edokter • Talk • 13:19, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
Main Cast
editWhile I reluctantly agree with Ckatz about keeping the title of this template the same, I think that the title within the template of Cast should instead be Main Cast. Sure it links to a page for all cast, but within the template, it acts as a title for the list of links to pages for the main circle of cast members throughout the series. Snake Chess5
List main characters by season
editWouldn't it be easier to list the main characters of each season, instead of the version we have right now? For example, wouldn't be better if it went: "Season 1: character, character, etc. Season 2: character, character, etc." ...and so on. Right now it has people like D.L. and Simone (who aren't even remotely relevant to the current storyline) listed as main characters. If you go to the list of characters in Heroes page, it has the characters sorted out by which season they were introduced; maybe we could do something like this...? It just seems silly that more current/prominent characters are completely overshadowed in this template. 4.167.170.52 (talk) 12:14, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
- Two points to consider: one, we don't present "in the moment" information, instead providing an overview of the series as a whole. Two, the main characters in the list page are presented alphabetically, not by season. (Only the secondary characters are listed by season.) Hope this helps. --Ckatzchatspy 23:19, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
Heroes TV Icon in Navbox
editUser Ckatz reverted my effort to place the Heroes TV Icon, the same icon that is used on this discussion page, on this navbox template because "there are issues with fair use and copyright when using for decorative purposes." I don't understand how this can be possible as the icon's image is from the commons and is licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License and Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 3.0 License. Does anyone else see a reason why this icon cannot be used on the navbox? Thatoneguy89 (talk) 00:02, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Heroes Reborn characters
editI recently split the page List of Heroes characters to create a List of Heroes Reborn characters. What would be the best way to include the new page in this template? Could we split the "Characters" row into a "Heroes" row and a "Heroes Reborn" row, maybe? —2macia22 (talk) 10:43, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
