Divisions

A league may comprise several divisions, such as in the articles in Category:The Football League seasons. However if you included information from all divisions, the infobox would be too big. My proposed solution is to keep the infobox as it is, but re-use the infobox in the relevant "division" section of the article, as well as in the lead. An example of this is here: [1]. Admittedly it isn't the best example as I don't have all the stats to fill in the relavant parameters, but hopefully the idea is clear. --Jameboy (talk) 16:03, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Promoted

Should "promoted" explicitly include (and thus repeat) the champions if the champions are promoted? Or does it mean "promoted in addition to the champions as we assume the champions are promoted anyway"? Could possibly do with clarification. --Jameboy (talk) 20:10, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Website parameter?

Most infoboxes have a parameter for the official website. I was wondering if this would be applicable here (seeing that all parameters are optional anyway), rather than having to scroll down to the EL section? TINYMARK 08:47, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Premiers parameter

What are "premiers"? Nothing in the documentation explains the purpose of this parameter. --MicroX (talk) 02:11, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

It's the word they use in Australia to describe the team that wins the league portion of a season (I believe), before the proper champions are crowned via a play-off system. No idea why we couldn't just use a switch on the "champions" parameter, but whatever... – PeeJay 09:21, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

Template width

@Frietjes: Right now I can point you to the template documentation example to get a feel for it, and it gets longer when "biggest home win" are two or three matches, same for biggest away win and so on. The infobox gets long fast and travels through sections. Qed237 (talk) 17:18, 7 June 2015 (UTC)

Template-protected edit request on 29 August 2018

Pursuant to the discussion at Category talk:Articles which use infobox templates with no data rows#Categorisation, I've been looking for templates which are unnecessarily populating the tracking category. It's quite common for this template to be used with only the parameters "prevseason" or "nextseason" (usually both) so the infobox can be used for navigation. But that case triggers the "no data rows" condition. The other parameters that populate data rows are all explicitly "optional". Since this is a common and accepted use, I want to add |decat=yes to the call to the infobox module. I've already done this at Infobox_cricket_tournament Diff/856345363 and I'm just applying the same approach to other templates as I discover them. Other examples where similar template-protected edit requests have been successfully made are at award and sports competition.

After line 71, near the bottom, which looks like:

Expelled section

Teams that are promoted or relegated

Hello! Is it possible to add a new label concerning new teams for the season. Either if the teams are promoted or relegated to another division. Antigen teams can't be promoted from the first-tier to the first-tier only from the tiers lower down. You can be relegated from the top-tier to the second-tier not otherwise. Almost. Since you have asked for template editor permissions, I will use this opportunity to help you become a more careful template editor. First, when you begin to modify a sandbox, copy the contents of the live template to the sandbox and save before making changes. Use an edit summary like "sync from live template". Second, once you are done editing, click the "diff" link at the bottom of the template documentation to ensure that you have not made any unintentional changes, like deleting a parameter that is in use. Average attendance

@Jonesey95: looks like your recent changes break lots of articles which invoke this template. See 2000–01 Czech First League, for example. This article defines the reference for attendance in the average attendance parameter. But due to your recent edit, the average attendance information never makes it into the article. That means the average attendance information isn't displayed, and also that the reference definition isn't included and the article ends up with an undefined reference and is shown in Category:Pages with broken reference names.

Looks like there are at least three dozen pages showing errors so far -- maybe more, due to cached changes and so on.

Is there a fix forthcoming promptly, or should your change be reverted? -- Mikeblas (talk) 13:47, 23 June 2022 (UTC)

Looks like that edit completely removed the average attendance parameter, whether it was explicitly supplied or expected to be implicitly computed. The documentation wasn't updated to remove the parameter, and I don't see any discussion of the parameter's removal here, so I'm assuming it was a mistake and I've reverted the change. -- Mikeblas (talk) 14:00, 23 June 2022 (UTC)

This was a good revert. That case was not considered by the editor above who proposed the change. I have added it to the testcases page so that any further development will take it into account. There are a few parameters, like |attendance note=, that were not documented, and one or two that are still not documented. New parameter for teams which are new in the league

Parameter for number of teams

I've noticed that some articles used a deprecated parameter ("num_teams") that would display the number of teams. For leagues that have a variable number of teams from year to year (such as those in North America), bringing back this parameter would be quite helpful. SounderBruce 00:38, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
