Template talk:MLB Year

{{editprotected}} Right now, this template can only link the year itself—but frequently, it is used in sentences like "in the 2001 MLB season", where it would be more appropriate to write "in the 2001 MLB season" in order to identify the season—and not the year—as the item being linked to.

To fix this, change the template code to the latest revision of User:TheFeds/template/fedsMLB Year. This will implement a parameter disp which can be set to disp=abbr to abbreviate "Major League Baseball" as "MLB", or disp=full in order to display the full title of the article in the link.

Default behaviour is the same (linking the year only), to avoid breaking existing prose. At some later date, it might be worthwhile sending a bot to update the links to the abbr and full versions instead of the default. TheFeds 06:27, 6 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I added another option—seas which generates "2001 season" for contexts where MLB is already obvious. TheFeds 06:34, 6 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
