Overlinking

This is an interesting tool but does it not stray into WP:ELMIN and WP:LINKFARM? It some cases there are over a dozen external links added to pages. I would resist adding this template at all possibilities. Words in the Wind(talk) 00:37, 5 August 2021 (UTC)

1. WP:ELMIN talks about Official links, those are links meeting two criteria, one of them is "The linked content is controlled by the subject (organization or individual person) of the Wikipedia article." which the links of this template don't meet.

Reader-facing message about no links at Wikidata

We have more than 1200 transclusions of this template where it returns no results. These are added to the hidden cat Category:Articles using sports links with no data in Wikidata (good), and have in the article the visible message "This article has no properties for sports databases in Wikidata", which is bad. The reader has no need to see this message, basically telling them that there is nothing "here". Can this message please be removed from the template? Fram (talk) 14:59, 6 February 2022 (UTC)

Module:External links/conf/Sports is used on some 65,300 articles. Have you tested your code already in a sandbox? Where? If not, where can we test your new code? What does the expected output look like?

@Trappist the monk: Great questions. I don't know how to address any of them. The expected output is to just add line items for two new Wikidata entries, specifically P4668 and P4469, if data exists there. While I'm a mediocre coder, if all that is involved with this template is adding line items utilizing the correct P values, which can be found here and here, then adjusting the output while linking to a corresponding Wikipedia article if applicable, then yes it should work. None of the other requests for this template above looked to have included a sandbox and the additions I've created followed all other entries so I'm fairly confident it works, but would certainly be open to someone knowledgeable testing it as a second set of eyes. I implemented your change and tested it against four articles (P4469: Shuji Tsurumi, Tatiana Lysenko; P4668: Betty Okino, Lance Ringnald). Only Ringnald has {{sports links}}. Adding {{sports links}} to the others and previewing suggests that your change works on those four articles. No other guarantees.

As we're just adding those two additional lines at the end of the gymnstics section with no other changes, and the changes appear to work as intended with no other breakages to the overall template, is there any hesitation in implementing and making the change a part of the code? Description of suggested change: Similar to my September request, looking for a simple addition of data. This would be for the inclusion of P12285 which holds links to the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee Hall of Fame ID and relevant biographies. Looking at Module:External_links/conf/Sports, the most likely spot for this inclusion would be near line 526, either above or below, where the standard USOPC biographies are included.
