More formatting options
editHi there,
I suggest more formatting options for this template, particularly alignment parameters and the ability to set default visibility. Sillyputty1967 (talk) 20:12, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
How to make it auto-collapsible?
editHow do you make this template auto-collapsible? • Sbmeirow • Talk • 21:55, 30 December 2022 (UTC)
- Right now it doesn't have that functionality, but I can probably add it in the next couple of days. I think it might be best to leave it open for accessibility, though. – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 00:52, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
- Per MOS:DONTHIDE,
Collapsible templates should not conceal article content by default upon page loading. This includes reference lists, tables and lists of article content, image galleries, and image captions.
[Links excluded]. As such, I don't think this will be added, but you're free to collapse the tables if you are so inclined. – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 00:59, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
- Per MOS:DONTHIDE,
- @Sbmeirow: My concern is which articles this template is intended to be included on. Some editors, including myself and User:Cristiano Tomás, often delete presidential election results tables when they are included on US city articles. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:40, 7 January 2023 (UTC)
Such tables are intended to be on US county articles. I would also guess that any municipality that has such reliably-sourced history may include a table (and am unimpressed by WP:NOTDIRECTORY arguments), but I don't believe firm consensus exists about non-county articles having the tables. – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 23:09, 7 January 2023 (UTC)
- I use WP:NOTSTATS when I delete from city articles. Some items for inclusion in US city articles have gone to RFC (see here and here), and I suspect this one will as well. Regardless, thank you for your hard work improving this template, and for your input here. Magnolia677 (talk) 00:00, 8 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Magnolia677: Should an RfC take place (which might be inevitable), I would put it somewhere in the WikiProject Elections talk page or some other broad talkpage, rather than a single city/town's talkpage. – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 00:38, 8 January 2023 (UTC)
- It seems that @ErrorDestroyer: has made auto-collapsability possible on a particular page, which I have discouraged on the header docpage per MOS:COLLAPSE. If anyone else has anything to say about this, please feel free to chime in. – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 22:01, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
- Apologies, I should have checked the talk page before proceeding with this change. That said, I think there are cases where this functionality makes sense to have; I mainly implemented it because with the table left open on Sitka, Alaska it extended too far down into the subsequent section for my liking, and I'm sure similar examples exist elsewhere. With regards to MOS:DONTHIDE, I tend to treat that as a general guideline rather than a binding rule since I've noticed a substantial improvement to page display on my 13" screen for municipal pages with collapsed weatherboxes.
