"Discuss first"

edit

The alpha-editor in its natural habitat follows two policies:

The last edit summary (aka having the last word) inevitably will be "discuss first".

Although some prefer welcoming newcomers with cookies, I find fruit to be a healthier alternative.

Hello, AlhyarJy, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like this place and decide to stay.

Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. If this is not the case, you may have been blocked or your IP address caught up in a range block.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
How do I create an article?
See how to create your first article, then use the Article Wizard to create one, and add references to the article as explained below.
How do I create citations?
  1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
  2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
  3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
  4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
  6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
  7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}
What is a WikiProject, and how do I join one?
A WikiProject is a group of editors that are interested in improving the coverage of certain topics on Wikipedia. (See this page for a complete list of WikiProjects.) If you would like to help, add your username to the list that is on the bottom of the WikiProject page.

Malay people

If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Teahouse or the Help desk. You may share your opinion in regards to your edits in the article's Talk page. Native99girl (talk) 11:09, 13 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Lampung sockmaster

edit

Hi, here's more pages to watch: Lampung, Lampung people, Spread of Islam, Liwa, Indonesia. This guy is heavily promoting the dynasty of his local aristocracy and claiming that they were important figures in the history of Indonesia and the Islamization of the Archipelago. Austronesier (talk) 21:11, 27 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

PS: and, well, there's no copyright on my "Discuss first" satire, so nice to see you like it. –Austronesier (talk) 21:13, 27 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

If you see clowns adding rubbish like this[1], please also post them a warning so we can eventually have them blocked if they continue. Do you use WP:Twinkle? –Austronesier (talk) 22:02, 14 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

November 2022

edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Editors are expected to treat each other with respect and civility. On this encyclopedia project, editors assume good faith while interacting with other editors, which you did not appear to do at Indonesia. Here is Wikipedia's welcome page, and it is hoped that you will assume the good faith of other editors and continue to help us improve Wikipedia! What "edit-warring" is this[2] edit summary referring to? It was a first bold (and admittedly not very fortunate) edit, and you did the first revert. Also, can you kindly specify the sockmaster which you claim to have spotted here[3]? Austronesier (talk) 17:23, 25 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

[4], [5], [6], [7], [8] you're welcome :) AlhyarJy (talk) 17:59, 25 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Wow, that's beyond even your level of persistence :) Although the last diff is unrelated to the rest. –Austronesier (talk) 18:59, 25 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

edit

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:56, 29 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Socks again

edit

Help me out: who's the sockmaster behind this one[9]? I'm familiar with the Malaysian food warriors, but this one looks not immediately familiar to me.

And talking about socks: I'm pretty sure that the weird rewrite of Ethnic groups in Indonesia is the work of a sock. Excessive use of native scripts, citing Zoetmulder's Old Javanese dictionary in a section about Chinese Indonesians[10], talking about "official" classifications ...all this looks very familiar and bears the handwriting of @Eiskrahablo, no?.   Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you recently removed maintenance templates from Robert Budi Hartono. When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Please see Help:Maintenance template removal for further information on when maintenance templates should or should not be removed. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. Thank you. Cordless Larry (talk) 19:52, 3 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please do not remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Robert Budi Hartono, without resolving the problem that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your removal of this template does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. Thank you. Cordless Larry (talk) 19:57, 3 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please remember to assume good faith when dealing with other editors. Before you label edits that you disagree with as "vandalism", I strongly advise you to read WP:NOTVANDAL. You're absolutely entitled to revert edits that you consider problematic (but not by resorting to edit warring), but never ever call good-faith edits (especially if they are explained by the other editor) "vandalism".   There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is AlhyarJy and maintenance templates. Thank you. Cordless Larry (talk) 16:47, 8 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi AlhyarJy, you were given a last chance to respond on the ANI. You didn't. You might not be active editing. But we cannot be tracking your response sine die. So your account has been blocked indefinitely until you respond here that you understand the issue and will not repeat it again. Once you do that, you account may be unblocked (with some conditions, if required). Thanks, Lourdes 06:27, 11 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
