Milton Bhowmick is an Indian footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Mohun Bagan in the I-League.
Early Career
editMilton Bhowmick was born to Subrata Bhowmick and Suparna Bhowmick in West Bengal, India. [1] Bhowmick started playing football at the ages of 13-14 and joined his first club Agarpara Pragati Sangha where he played as a left back. [1] Soon his coach, Sunirmal Ghosh, asked Bhowmick to change positions and suggested goalkeeper. Bhowmich than trained with Ghosh everyday until 9 at night to adjust to his new position. [1] Bhowmick than signed for Bengal 5th Division team Dakshin Kolkata Krira Sangsad as a goalkeeper. He stayed at the club till 2009 when he moved to the IFA (Indian Football Association) Academy after passing a trial. The Academy is located in Haldia and is completely residential. [1] While at IFA Academy, Bhowmick was trained under Goutam Ghosh who used to play for Mohun Bagan. [1] Bhowmick noted in an interview that his best memories from IFA Academy were from when IFA Academy became the champions of the All India Academy Tournament which was organized by Mohun Bagan. [1] During the tournament Bhowmick was the keeper when IFA Academy defeated famed Tata Football Academy 1–0 in the semi-final. After the match Bhowmick was named man of the match after he had to make numerous saves. [1] In the final against JCT FC, Bhowmick saved a penalty after the match went into a penalty shoot-out as IFA Academy won the match. [1]
Career
editMohun Bagan
editAfter his performance at the All India Academy Tournament in Durgapur, the Mohun Bagan finance secretary, Debasish Dutta, offered Bhowmick the chance to join Mohun Bagan of the I-League. [1] After talking to Manas Bhattacharya (former Mohun Bagan player) who was also a coach at the IFA Academy, the academy decided to release Bhowmick to Mohun Bagan. He officially signed for Mohun Bagan in June 2012. [1]
