The story begins six years ago, when the lead character, Sonal Kapoor, is living in Delhi, India. She has a promising life ahead with a budding career, and she is engaged to Manas. She decides to rent the first floor of her bungalow to Varun. Soon Varun starts making unsolicited and unwanted advances to Sonal. Despite multiple warnings, Varun becomes more daring, sending her indecent personal messages and trying to get inappropriately physically close to her. She decides to put a stop to his behaviour and asks him to vacate her house. One day when she is home alone, Varun attacks and rapes Sonal after a heated argument. Sonal’s world is turned upside down. Cheerful, positive and focused Sonal becomes disorganised, hysterical and anxious. Rejected by her fiancé, her is marriage called off. Facing a difficult justice process that makes it impossible for her to live in India, she quits her job, sells her house, and moves with her mother to London. She buys a closing florists business and put her whole heart into revamping it.
In London, Sonal uses the support of a psychologist to address her acute rape trauma syndrome. Her world revolves only around her mother and her business. Her rape and trauma have scarred her so badly that she has vowed to stay away from relationships, until she meets a man at her friend’s convenience store one day. Dr. Ryan Percy is a famous cardiovascular surgeon who has had his own share of grief: he lost his wife to breast cancer eight years ago. When the two meet, Ryan is intrigued and feels the urge to unravel the mystery. Having found her pouch at the store the day they met, he discovers her address inside and decides to return it in person.
Despite Sonal’s hostile behaviour, it does not take long for Ryan to become enamoured. Gradually Sonal discovers that Ryan is different from other men she has met in the past; he is genuinely supportive, caring, loving, and thoughtful. But she fears he will reject her once he knows about her past. One day Sonal’s mother is admitted to hospital with a heart attack. In an emotional outburst, Sonal reveals her whole past and is surprised that Ryan is determined to be by her side. She finally acknowledges her own feelings and admits her love to him.
Sonal starts getting repeated blank calls, messages, and threats. Afraid to see Ryan lose his temper, she keeps these developments to herself. In Delhi, Sonal’s sister has had a miscarriage and is very depressed, so Sonal and her mother fly out to Delhi to be with her. Manas finds out that Sonal is back in town and requests a meeting, hoping to obtain a second chance. Ryan visits Sonal’s store and learns about the blank calls and threats. He decides to fly to Delhi to surprise and support Sonal. The day Ryan lands in Delhi, Sonal is shocked to come face to face with her rapist briefly. Concerned about Sonal’s safety, Ryan seeks police intervention.
Ryan assists Sonal gain closure by accompanying her to meet Manas. They are all set to fly back to London when Sonal is abducted by Varun, who wants her to terminate her pregnancy. He locks her up and seeks vengeance for the jail time he had to serve. Ryan is able to locate Sonal, and Varun is killed by the police. While Sonal is recovering, Ryan proposes to her and they get married. They are later blessed to have a daughter, whom they name Indy.
