About me
editI am a biology professor who has been exploring the Wikipedia Education Project in the classroom. I had a few students do Wikipedia editing in the classroom for Developmental Biology in Spring 2012 and expanded to Signal Transduction in Spring 2013. Here are some pages where my students have made substantial contributions:
- Adhesion G protein-coupled receptors
- Circulating microvesicle
- Glutathione S-transferase
- Mammalian target of rapamycin
- mTORC1
- mTORC2
- Plant disease resistance
- SR protein
- Wnt signaling pathway
My Developmental Biology class, Spring 2014 contributed to the following articles:
- Angiogenesis inhibitor
- GADD45G
- Human cloning
- Percutaneous umbilical cord blood sampling
- Tsix (gene)
- Werner syndrome
My Developmental Biology class, Spring 2015 and Indpendent Study students contributed to the following articles:
- ADAM7
- Cortical granule
- Epsin
- Hematopoietic stem cell niche
- MyoD
- Otic vesicle
- PDE6B
- Neurokinin B
- Retinitis pigmentosa
In Spring 2016, one student helped create a new article for the gene UNC13A and the other made substantial edits to the article on Respiratory arrest. The latter was highlighted in the Wiki Education blog on May 23, 2016.
In Fall 2017, students made significant contributions to: Pallesthesia, GPR65, and Autapse.
In Spring 2018, students made significant contributions to: Melanin-concentrating hormone and Zatypota percontatoria.
In Spring 2020, User:Cheryzk and User:Branson22 made significant contributions to the biographies of Erich Jarvis and Ricardo Miledi, respectively.
In Fall 2020, User:SLUstudentMC made significant contributions to the article on Cerebral organoid.
Beyond teaching and Wikipedia, my research interests include vertebrate photoreceptor development and degeneration and retinal circuitry.
