Syed Ameer Haider Abidi
editSyed Ameer Haider Abidi (born 1940) is a Librarian and Professor of Library and Information Science (LIS). He was the Director of the East African School of Library and Information Science formerly, the East African School of Librarianship[1][2] at Makerere University from 1972-2002.[3]

Early life and education
editBorn and raised in India, Abidi studied many courses between 1958 - 1967. He later traveled to England to pursue a Master of Arts in Library and Information Science [3]
Career
editIn 1960, Abidi started working as a Librarian for Agra District in India.[4] In 1970, while teaching library science at Aligarh Muslim University, Abidi applied for a position of Lecturer in Library and Information Science at Makerere University. He was appointed as a Senior Lecturer, and later promoted to Director - East African School of Library and Information Science in 1972. [3]A position he held for 30 years.
He is the current Chairman of Kampala International University Council.[5] And he's also an author. [6]

editAbidi has authored several publications in the field of Library and Information Science. They include:
- Local Relevance Factor in Syllabi for African Library and Information Training Schools.[1]
- Information Technology in the Universities of East Africa.[7]
- Library training programs in East Africa: an evaluation.[8]
- Uganda: Toward Information Literacy and an Information and Communication Technologies Environment.
- Development of a national information and documentation network for Uganda.
- The Impact of Legislation on Development of Libraries in Uganda.[9]
Personal Life
editAbidi is a Father of three children.[3]
