Battle of Bengal
editThe Battle of Bengal (बंगाल की लड़ाई in Bengali) was the result of a botched raid by Blackwater mercenaries to rescue Ovi Mahajan Jr., son of drug lord Ovi Mahajan Sr. after he had been kidnapped by rival drug lord Asif Amir in Bangladesh. During the battle the Blackwater mercenaries repeatedly tried to leave the city with Ovi Jr. who they refferred to as 'The Package', but were stopped by police. Eventually a helicopter was able to evacuate Ovi Jr. and some Blackwater troops and escape Bengal, but most of the mercenaries were left in Dhaka and would eventually be killed or captured.
After the incident, it became clear that Ovi Sr. had hired the mercenaries and was subsequently tried and executed in India for his role. The Bangladesh Police were deeply criticised by the international community for their response to the attack, and their corruption. It is largely described as the worst ever gang or terrorist attack in Bangladesh.
