Type species – Robillarda sessilis (Sacc.) Sacc.

Notes – The genus was introduced by Saccardo (1880a) and have flexuous, narrow tubular, aseptate appendages and holoblastic conidiogenous cells, proliferating sympodially or percurrently near the apex (Crous et al. 2015a, Wijayawardene et al. 2016a). Robillarda species have been reported worldwide, as saprobes (Wijayawardene et al. 2017a, Farr & Rossman 2019).[3] Most recently, Robillarda mangiferae was introduced from leaf blight on mango in Yunnan, China (Phookamsak et al. 2019).[4][5]

Species of Robillarda are found from live plants and within decayed plant materials and also in soil and 38 species were listed in .[6] In 2017, two newly found secondary metabolites or compounds; robillafuran and robillapyrone, were isolated from the culture extract of a fungal strain of Robillarda along with monascuspyrone.[7]

This species is a remarkable fungus with conidia bearing three long hair-like appendages. It was selected as a generic type for Robillarda, an anamorphic genus with unknown teleomorph stage.[8][9]

Hosts

edit

In 2010, Robillarda sessilis, a rare coelomycete was isolated from Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) seedlings in Belarus.[8]

Robillarda sessilis has been found on the diseased leaves of Castanea mollissima.[10]

Distribution

edit

It is has a cosmopolitan distribution worldwide,[5] except for parts of Canada, and the North and South poles.[11] It is found in Russia,[12] China.[10]

Species

edit

There were 38 species were listed in Index Fungorum in 2017.[6] There were 17 morphological accepted species in 2020.[5] List (of 19 species, in 2023) as accepted by Species Fungorum;[13]
