The Assessment department details how to tag articles of interest to the project banners, and specifies quality and importance guidelines. Anyone may assess articles in accordance with this guideline, with the exception of the featured classes, A-class, and GA-class, as these can only be applied after a successful review at the relevant forum.

Articles which are of interest to this project should have the following templates placed at the top of their talk page:

The following information applies specifically to road articles:

A-Class criteria: Article has gone through and passed an A-Class Review (at WikiProject Highways)

B-Class criteria: Article is mostly complete and without major issues. Article has:

  • A brief but informative lead section which introduces all the article sections.
  • An infobox
  • A section devoted to describing the route of the road, well-written and referenced.
  • A history into the road, informative, and well-written.
  • A list of the road's junctions.

and is a NPOV, well-written well-referenced article, without trivia that can not be integrated.

C-Class criteria: A substantial article that is not B-Class because:

  • The route description, history, and (major) junctions sections are present; However, one or more of the sections is incomplete, missing sources, or in need of copyediting
  • It contains cleanup banners, such as {{cleanup}}, {{expand article}}, {{POV}}, {{unreferenced}}, or similar
  • It contains large numbers of inline tags, such as {{citation needed}}, {{clarify}}, or similar
