P.S. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you need help with anything or simply wish to say hello. :)
I saw you moved the article to Solar System and change all the capitalization as well. For major changes like this, it's best to bring it up on the talk page first. In this case, Wikipedia style is to capitalize only the first word of article titles and section headings, unless subsequent words are proper nouns; see Wikipedia:Naming conventions#Lowercase second and subsequent words and Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Headings for more information. — Knowledge Seeker দ 16:15, August 27, 2005 (UTC)
Page moves
editAloha. I want to echo the comments made by Knowledge Seeker. Please bring major page moves up on the talk page. I see you've moved Milky Way twice in two days. --Viriditas | Talk 09:29, 29 August 2005 (UTC)
Image:Homo ergaster.jpg
editHi. I see you uploaded Image:Homo ergaster.jpg and noted that it is from http://www.ub.es/dpep/antropo.jpg. Could you please add some information about why you believe Wikipedia is allowed to use this image? You might find it helpful to use one of the templates at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Thanks, Bovlb 07:39:53, 2005-09-01 (UTC)
Page moves
editI've reverted your page moves, in future please discuss them first. --fvw* 07:55, September 1, 2005 (UTC)

- I replaced Image:NGC 1365.jpg with a free Hubble image, so it's OK now. The original one was from European Southern Observatory, which don't give its images to public domain. Somebody had replaced © marking with {{PD-USGov-NASA}} template!--Jyril 17:49, 19 October 2005 (UTC)
NASA images
editIf you tag images taken from the NASA website with {{NASA}}, they won't get deleted. I don't know why this guy is hassling you about the ones which are obviously NASA in origin. --Fastfission 21:55, 2 September 2005 (UTC)
Done
editExplain
edit- Hi. I think I may have failed to explain myself very clearly last night, so I'll try again. Please bear with me. When people take photographs or draw pictures they automatically own the copright, and that means that other people can't take those images and use them in, for example, Wikipedia. There are, in general, three cases when we can use images from other people:
- When the author has allowed us to do so, usually by releasing the image into the public domain. See Wikipedia:Copyright FAQ for a discussion of which licences are appropriate. NASA images may be an example of this because the US goverment releases all its work into the public domain. Another case would be a Wikipedia editor who takes photographs and contributes them under the GFDL.
- When the fair use doctrine permits. This is very narrow, but might apply to Image:LIPA.gif. See Wikipedia:Fair use for more guidance.
- When the creation of the image is old enough that the copyright has expired. The conditions for this are complex, but we're talking about 75–90 years.
- The upshot of all this is that when you contribute an image to Wikipedia that you did not create yourself, I'm afraid that it's your responsibility to explain why Wikipedia is permitted to use that image. This protects us (and any resuers of Wikipedia content) if there is any later dispute. You can most easily do this by adding one of the templates listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. For NASA images, this would be {{PD-USGov-NASA}} to make a permission claim, as I believe Fastfission has already added for you. For Image:LIPA.gif, you would likely use {{Logo}} to make a fair use claim. For the other images, I'm afraid that I can't see the basis for a valid claim, and I'd really like you to explain why you believe Wikipedia is allowed to use these images.
- Cheers, Bovlb 06:22:06, 2005-09-03 (UTC)
Hi again. I have unlisted and removed the tags from Image:NGC_4725.jpg, Image:Milky_Way_2005.jpg, and Image:LIPA.gif as they are all now properly tagged. Contrary to my previous note, I see that Fastfission only tagged two NASA images, and there might be others that fall into that category. Thanks for working with us to get this sorted out. moving Earth
editI just reverted your move of the article Earth. Please explain your action. Such a move of a major page needs to be fully discussed and a consensus reached. Vsmith 01:00, 4 September 2005 (UTC)
- Ditto for moving Mars. Dragons flight 01:28, September 4, 2005 (UTC)
- And, per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (plurals) pages are almost always at the singular version of a noun, so I am reverting all your pluralizing of galaxy names. Dragons flight 01:34, September 4, 2005 (UTC)
Page moves
editHello, Battery. I like the enthusiasm with which you have approached Wikipedia. We can use editors with your energy. But you must also realize that there are some well-established ways we do things around here. I understand you can't be familiar with all the rules to begin with, but when people drop you a kind note and point you to the relevant information, please don't continue doing the same sorts of things. You really should take a look at Wikipedia:Naming conventions and its subpages before moving any more articles. I understand that you think the article would be better at its new name, but please realize that a lot of people must have thought it was better at its current name; that's why it's there. In general, except for obvious errors or misspellings, you should at least bring up the proposed move on the talk page first. More controversial ones should be listed on Requested moves. I must ask you to please not make any more page moves without seeking concurrence from other editors first. If you continue to move articles at your own whim, you may be blocked from editing. I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have, and I hope you will remain a productive editor at Wikipedia. — Knowledge Seeker দ 04:20, September 4, 2005 (UTC)
Stop Moving!
edit- Acid, Wikipedia is a wiki. That doesn't mean that everyone can just do as he pleases. We have to work together. Sometimes we don't all agree, in which case we work to find a compromise. Sometimes a few people don't agree with everyone else. If the consensus is to do things one way, though, then those who disagree tolerate the difference. Just because you want the articles to be titled one way doesn't mean everyone else does. In fact, the consensus so far on Wikipedia is not to title them in that way. You are free to disagree but you must discuss. Please read the message I left you before. There are established ways of doing things here; someone cannot just show up and decide to change everything to fit his preferred style, regardless of what others think. I'm afraid I'm going to have to block you from editing for a little while while I undo all your page moves. It will also give you a little time away from editing so you'll have a chance to read about some of our policies, or to plan how you can persuade people your new title is better (I'll leave some comments about that below). Please don't move any more pages unless you propose it and find at least some agreement. You have been temporarily blocked from editing; you are welcome to come back after the block expires. You may also edit this talk page while being blocked. — Knowledge Seeker দ 01:16, September 8, 2005 (UTC)
- I moved the articles back. Let's talk about why you feel these new titles would be better, shall we? Would you care to join me on Talk:Milky Way and propose the page name change, as well as why you think your title would be better? — Knowledge Seeker দ 03:05, September 8, 2005 (UTC)

edit- I've removed the personal info from your user page, you can put back whatever you want to keep in a few hours when the block expires. Dragons flight 21:30, September 8, 2005 (UTC)
I need Help!
editI would like some help, to manege Acid. So I don't get blocked again. I would like to start again fresh. Everyone who would like to give me edvise. Please do. Also, is there a way to change my name from Acid to something else? — Acid
- Acid, thanks for being open to discussion. I'm happy to work with you to help you become familiar with Wikipedia. Your bold attitude is commendable. You don't always have to go hunting down all the policies before editing. But if editors who have been here before leave you messages that you should be doing something differently, please listen to them. The reason I reversed your page moves, as I explained above, is that they were in violation of our naming conventions. In particular, article titles should usually be singular (thus, Dog, not "Dogs"); also, Wikipedia style is to capitalize only the first word and any proper nouns, of course (thus Spiral galaxy, not "Spiral Galaxy"). "Milky Way" versus "Milky Way Galaxy" is less clear, but Wikipedia's policy is also to use the most common name of something, and our galaxy is more commonly referred to as the Milky Way. You are certainly welcome to discuss this further here but the article's Talk:Milky Way is probably the best place. Your block is over now, so you can edit Wikipedia again. Please let me know if you have further questions. — Knowledge Seeker দ 04:38, September 9, 2005 (UTC)
- Incidentally, e-mailing me fifteen times was probably a bit excessive. To change your user name, you can go to Wikipedia:Changing username. Please note that the new user name cannot yet be registered. So don't register your new account yet. — Knowledge Seeker দ 04:44, September 9, 2005 (UTC)
- When and how exactly can I change my Name?
I'm still blocked!?
editKnowledge Seeker, i'm still blocked. It's 4:00 EST in the US. and i'm still blocked. Do you know why? You said this morning that my block has stopped. Even then I was not unblocked. Please check to see if...
- You can find the Time I get unblocked.
- If you can unblock me.
This is starting to scare me. Please find the problem!
- I'm sorry, Acid; you should no longer be blocked. See the block log; I unblocked you at 9/8/2005 23:34 (UTC); it's currently 23:46, September 9, 2005 (UTC). Do you still get the "blocked" message when you try to edit? Does it say who blocked you and what the reason is? — Knowledge Seeker দ 23:46, September 9, 2005 (UTC)
- Thank Knowledge Seeker, i'm back. I promise to be a good Wikipedian for now on.
The new me!
