Swaroop Puranik (Born: 25 November 1981) is a professional triathlete, an IIM Calcutta Alumnus, a Director at the DY Patil University - Navi Mumbai, an entrepreneur, and a certified dentist. Dr Swaroop Puranik is amongst only a handful of Indian athletes to have completed the Ironman Championship.

Early Life[edit]

Born in Mumbai to a middle-class Indian family. Dr Swaroop Puranik was always fascinated by sports ever since he was a child. He participated in numerous sporting events through his teenage. He has won medals in swimming for District and State level competitions in under 17 and 19 age categories. His other participation in sports have been at District and Zonal level for table tennis, he has also been a District, State, and National level badminton player and a District level Kabaddi player. He has also been a Tennis player and a National Class B player in chess.

Athletic Career[edit]

Dr Swaroop Puranik has participated in numerous marathons in his past 20-year career. He has participated in full and half marathons across the country and has run more than 50 international marathons to date. He has also participated in aquathlons (swimming and running) and biathlons (cycling and running). He has completed 100 km, 200 km, 300 km, 400 km, and 600 km brevets which have earned him the title of being a Super Randonneur.

Education

Dr. Swaroop holds a post graduate from IIM Calcutta. He has completed his BDS degree from the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences followed by an MDS in Periodontics and Oral Implantology. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Research, Clinical/Medical Laboratory and a Post Graduate Diploma in Medico Legal Systems. He is also a six sigma black belt and also holds certification in HIPAA. Category:Running
