4/14/11 from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Collective_investment_scheme#Aim_of_this_Page
Many types of collective or pooled investments exist in different countries. The aim of this page is to reflect the many similarities these schemes have to avoid needless duplication on pages for individual schemes.

Original was.... A collective investment scheme is a way of investing money with others to participate in a wider range of investments than feasible for most individual investors, and to share the costs and benefits of doing so.
My change created...A collective investment scheme is a way of investing money with others in order to benefit from the inherent advantages of working as part of a group. These advantages include an ability to
- hire a professional investment manager, which, theoretically offers the prospects of better returns and/or risk management
- benefit from economies of scale - cost sharing among others
- diversify more than would be feasible for most individual investors which, theoretically, reduces risk.
