Being the gateway to the encyclopedia - the Main Page is Wikipedia's most frequently visited page. The main page is always protected and can only be edited by admins. But, most of the content on the main page is piped in each day from various departments, via templates. The volunteers in these departments work year round to prepare the content on the Main Page to be viewed by the World each day. The departments that prep content for the Main Page are:

Sometimes Wikipedians sound like they are speaking in a foreign language, even when they are not. This is because Wikipedians have created a great number of specialized terms (jargon) pertaining to Wikipedia and the activity of Wikipedians. Fortunately, being the encyclopedists that they are, they have also created a Wikipedia Glossary to explain these terms. Read or find an article
The Readers' FAQ and our about page contain the most commonly sought information about Wikipedia.
For simple searches, there is a search box at the top of every page. Type what you are looking for in the box. Partial matches will appear in a dropdown list. Select any page in the list to go to that page. Or, select the magnifying glass "Go" button, or press ↵ Enter, to go to a full search result. For advanced searches, see Help:Searching.

Edit an article
Contributing is easy: see how to edit a page. For a quick summary on participating, see contributing to Wikipedia, and for a friendly tutorial, see our introduction. Report a problem with an article
If there is a problem with an article about yourself, a family member, a friend or a colleague, please read Biographies of living persons/Help.
If you spot a problem with an article, you can fix it directly, by clicking on the "Edit" link at the top of that page. See the "edit an article" section of this page for more information.
If you don't feel ready to fix the article yourself, post a message on the article's talk page. This will bring the matter to the attention of others who work on that article. There is a "Talk" link at the beginning of every article page.

Create a new article or upload media
Check Your first article to see if your topic is appropriate, then the Article wizard will walk you through creating the article.

If you would like to display the Wikipedia tip of the day on your User page, here is how:
Edit your User page and insert one or more of the following bolded strings (including the four curly braces), preview your edit, and when it looks right, save it.

- {{totd}} – the main userspace version of the tip of the day template, with border, centered in the middle of the page. Complete with inspirational light bulb. Border color can be custom modified.
- {{totd b}} – a more compact version of the above template. Useful for columns.
- {{totd3}} – a purple box version, useful for displaying the tip in columns.
- {{totd-random}} – this is the tip of the moment template, which automatically displays a different tip every time you enter a page it is on. If it doesn't update, try clearing your browser cache.
- {{totd-tomorrow}} – this shows tomorrow's tip, and is used by Wikipedia tipsters to make sure that the tips are up-to-date and corrected before they go live.
- {{tip of the day}} – the borderless version, with light bulb.
- {{tip of the day with h3 heading}} – the tip in heading/paragraph format (No light bulb).
- {{totd2}} – the borderless version used on Wikipedia's Help page (which already has its own borders). (No light bulb).
- {{totd CP}} – like the help page version, but with a box and light bulb. Spans the whole field (screen or column) that it is in.
- {{totd-static}} – like the totd version but the date is static. You have to manually change the date. Good for testing purposes.
