Bio
editI am an American female of Hungarian birth/descent.
I was raised in Birmingham, Alabama, then in Seattle, Washington, where I went to boarding school at a place called Annie Wright School. My parents are both medical doctors who fled Hungary during WWII, but unfortunately they never taught me any Hungarian, so my accent is really great when I try to speak it but I don't make any sense!
I'm fairly well-travelled, I've been to Israel, Egypt, Sudan, China, South Korea, Jamaica, Australia, Jordan, France, Italy, Hungary, The Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. Needless to say I love seeing the world and studying languages and cultures.
Social Interests
editI like to think I have an alright sense of humor, but I'm not a particularly extroverted person.
My MBPI personality type is INTP, which means I'm passionate about a few moral issues but everything else is up for discussion.
That said, I love living in London, and I can usually be found listening to music, or going out raving with my friends... I love to dance and I love techno, house, and drum and bass music.
I have, on occasion, come home in a shopping cart.
My favorite bands/artists are Paul Oakenfold, Damien Rice, ATB, DJ Tiesto, Anna Nalick, Counting Crows, Dispatch, Kanye West, Anti-Flag, and basically anything politically motivated with a good beat and/or a good message.
My favorite books are Harry Potter (anything in the series), God of Small Things, Midnight's Children, and anything by Borges.
My favorite movies are Kinsey, Closer, The Princess Bride, and anything by Almodovar.
Academic Interests
editI will soon enter my fourth year of study at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts.
My major is Asian Studies and I have chosen to focus in a program of Violence, Conflict, and Development.
I have studied Chinese for 3 years, and would like to learn Burmese and Thai.
I plan to do honors work on the topic of violent conflict and development in Burma, but I also study conflicts such as the Rwanda Genocide and conflicts in Central Europe and Africa. I am particularly interested in the plight of ethnic groups and women and children, and the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war.
Career Goals
editAfter I graduate next year I would like to work for a year or two on the border between Thailand and Burma with ethnic Karen refugees.
Afterwards I would like to go to graduate school, possibly at the University of Washington near my hometown, to get a degree in Development studies.
Hopefully in the future I will be able to work for an NGO or development organization working with women and children in conflict areas.
Quotations
