Mediation List

edit

Credo - No personal view is held. Solely involved to attempt to retain good editors to continue their work on Wikipedia. I don't have the spare time to devote to the creativity and effort required which is growing Wikipedia into such an esteemed resource. At best I can help good editors continue their work. At the least, editors will see that theirs was not a lone voice in a bureaucracy of seemingly intractable policies.

Further credo... a call to arms - don't be a bystander - Deeds Not Words - See also Golden Rule, The no-harm-principle, Wiccan Rede "harm none". Evil will be done, so good must act

 Doing...

+ Refs. Checklist on talk page. Good comments, all valid, you could be bold and update the article yourself.
  • Investigate and demonstrate a redirect page going to an "anchor" tag. however anchors always get deleted, so need to create a sub-heading and see if a redirect page can redirect to a sub-heading. use the Smaug example to answer the question on the Village Pump positive proposal.

 Doing...

  • Add a redirect, or an addition to Wikiquote, perhaps: Deeds, not words Acta non verba, Motto of Emmeline Pankhurst
  • Technical debt#Causes - lorra, lorra causes. Work on mediation to remove ugly tag(s) there.

 Doing...

  • Man's cruelty to man - ugly tag at page header. mediate, simplify some sections, transferring to wikiquote, as suggested.

Doing... in time for next December, draft it: User:Mediation4u/Christmas 2020 kindness proposal

Doing... find the "view page source" button, or use "links-to-here" to find the "users looking for help", AFC table of statistics and vandalism meter. Excellent anti-vandal features, here: User:Happysailor

New section - bicententary celebrations - 200 years of RBAI

edit
Reworded this, which was criticised as advert:
  • TODO - need an extra REF for the list of celebrations.
  • TODO - add the 2010 REF to Winter Instonians Sea Horse magazine edition, a section of RBAI School News.
The foundation stone at RBAI was laid on 3 July 1810, and in 2010 the school celebrated its bicentenary. The celebrations took place throughout the calendar year and included events such as Old Boys' evenings, school open days, a gala dinner in Belfast City Hall and the RBAI Grand Concert at the Waterfront hall, Belfast. The concert included music from both the choir and school orchestra, with a mix of musical styles all arranged by head of music, Philip Bolton (MBE).[1] (philip bolton MBE ref)

Ugly tag - fixed

edit

Ugly tags at the top of Golden_Rule I suggested and moved the tags at the top of the article to the place where they are relevant.

They do not apply to the lead section where the tags appear - it has nothing wrong with it; so the tags are misplaced and do not prompt improvement to the article where they are currently placed. Instead they hugely detract from the article's readability.

Moved tags to prompt improvement of the article and improve readability.

Watch out, there's a troll about

Concerned about "enjoys biting newbies" user-box.

got your attention? - It takes all sorts - planks, hawks and doves. The last resort - some need to be clubbed into submission.

"Deletionists" user-boxes - conflict of interest?

Deletionists who have never written an article themselves - suspect people with a conflict of interest trying to delete their business competitor's entries, and perhaps building a "deletionist" reputation on other articles to mask their anti-competition agenda. Assume-good-faith tenet is very difficult for a Deletionist who has not written an article or who hide their work as their deletes are so controversial.

Implemented

edit

toolserver - pages created. edit-count

Cosmetic tagging change - implemented - Wishful thinking

There is currently a citation box at the article head. However the article itself is fairly well referenced and where it isn't it has meaningful links to other well-referenced wikipedia pages. I propose to put "citation needed" against items that DO need citations, e.g., Donald Lambro's quote. Then remove the ugly box at the head of the article. just a thought. Mediation4u (talk) 16:47, 8 August 2011 (UTC) editing is fun

Identified issue with Lambro citation - A notable reference has been added to the Daily Telegraph article. Other paragraphs do have meaningful links to other well-referenced wikipedia pages, and this page has encyclopedically summarised those pages, therefore no futher refs required. So aesthetically unpleasing Citation Box removed. Mediation4u (talk) 11:57, 11 August 2011 (UTC) editing is fun

Useful links to diffs of edits done. For key items, paste can restore inadvertent deletions. Need to recheck the content is there if a link is ever sent to anyone, or the link is broken in some Wiki-linked text which explains a reasoned point in a discussion. Obviously broken hyperlinks in text are a consequence of an aging internet, maintenance is essential. The links below provide it.

This section can discuss the neutrality box and propose removing the box, or paragraphs which need to be addressed before removal. I could not see any current part of this talk page specifically moving towards removal of the dispute box. I note that previous discussions on "Original research" disputed the wording on prayer and meditation. The article lead now appears to have found a compromise which is acceptable for the participants in the April 2011 discussion, on "Original Research" >> hist-link << Mediation4u (talk) 07:27, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

Just to neaten up the article, I propose removing the dispute box in seven days' time. Please let me know if anyone agrees / disagrees with removing the dispute box from the head of the article. Many thanks. Mediation4u (talk) 09:50, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
Agree. The issues appear to have been resolved. hgilbert (talk) 11:59, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
Based on the review of the dispute discussion; agreement to the proposal to remove the dispute box and 7 days' notice given, I will remove the neutrality dispute box from the article tomorrow. Mediation4u (talk) 11:23, 20 June 2011 (UTC) editing is fun

  2. DONE: issues box below. Fuck for Forest - Global Orgasm.
  3. DONE: reduce likelihood of deletion.- hook them up with f. for. forest -- via adding "See also" in both pages.

link - *Fuck for Forest Criticism: (kept within comments, for the eyes of die-hards only) - Note that the person who tagged the head of the article in the multiple issue box for Notability in Nov 2010 did NOT leave any justification or reasoning on the Talk page, had the template syntax wrong, and also probably did not read the PREVIOUS discussion on the Talk page giving sources of Notability, where the Delete discussion resulted in KEEP - Now that's what I call a low quality tagging edit. Still - it prompted the article to improve, so every cloud has a silver lining and all that.

Fun folks in Wikipedia

edit

I've been lucky enough to have come across some truly exceptional people here. These are some of the ones who most often and frequently come to mind.

  • User:Durova - A fine lady who has said that she gets involved in working with some of the more, uh, outspoken members of wikipedia, many of whom seem to have a far better grasp of profanity than standard language. She says she does this to help keep the rest of us from being subjected to the activities of these people, and has demonstrably gone to great efforts to give even these troublesome editors a chance to continue. I know that I am personally very thankful for all her efforts.
  • User:Himalayan Explorer - The amount of material this editor has contributed to the project, and his ideas for improving the project, are phenomenal, almost scary.
  • User:Jade Knight - Good "adopter". Would you like to "adopt" someone?
  • User:Kirill Lokshin - Feted by many. The driving force behind the Military history Project Coordinating Arbitrator of the WP:ARBCOM. It is my sincerest hope that this man remains active here as long as possible. I really wonder if the place would function anywhere near as well without him.
  • User:Kingboyk - I am stunned at the amount of work this individual has given to wikipedia, and to the Biography WikiProject in particular. He has once run for a seat on the foundation board already. I can imagine few people I would prefer to see there.
  • User:Pastordavid - One of the first editors I encountered here, and one who has had the at-best dubious pleasure of fairly regular contact with me. One of the most calm, well-informed, and even-handed people I've met. And a great editor who has an unusually high number of FAs and GAs to his credit.
  • User:Walkerma - a professor and probably the most active member of the Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team. How he manages to do both frankly escapes me.
  • User:Nobody60 - versity, relationships, peace and love

Oh Dear

edit

The Battle of the Boyne (Irish: Cath na Bóinne) was a turning point in the Williamite claim on the English throne. The deposed King James VII of Scotland and James II of England and Ireland and his Jacobite supporters were defeated by James' nephew and son-in-law, William III and his supporters. By the invitation of Parliament, William had deposed James in 1688. Both kings acted as commander of their respective armies.

The battle took place on July 1, 1690 (OS) just outside the town of Drogheda on Ireland's east coast. Each army stood on opposing sides of the River Boyne. William's forces easily defeated those of James who led an army of mostly raw recruits. The symbolic importance of this battle has made it one of the best-known battles in British and Irish history and a key part in Irish Protestant folklore. It is still commemorated today, principally by the Orange Institution. As a consequence of the adoption of the Gregorian calendar, the battle is now commemorated on July 12 each year. Read more...
