The Musical World Cup or Music World Cup is a cup created by me while the 2022 FIFA World Cup was happening. The Idea of the cup is that the jury listens to at least 1:30 of a song from each country and gives a score to the song from 0 to 5, the higher the score, the better the song, and the song that has the biggest score overall wins the match.

Continental Cups

edit

The tournament has separate smaller cups for each continent, these are:

Continent Cup Current Champion Editions
Africa African Musical Cup   Ethiopia 7
Americas Americas Musical Cup   Canada 8
Asia and Oceania Asia-Oceania Musical Cup   Lebanon 7
Europe Euro Musical Cup   Norway 8
All Confederations Musical Cup   Scotland 4

Rules

edit
  1. Any artist from each country can participate, but bigger artists have priority.
  2. Maximum song length of 7 minutes.
  3. Songs can't appear more than once unless requested.
  4. Heavy metal has low priority, death and black metal are forbidden.
  5. Artists can only show up with songs that match at least one of the following criterias (not applied in continental cups):
    • It was a single release.
    • It is among their 10 most streamed songs on Spotify.
    • It has over 30% of the amount of streams of the most popular song on the album.
    • It has over 100.000.000 streams on Spotify.
  6. Artists with double nationality will represent the nationality that's less common in the cup (For example, Pras is Haitian-American, therefore, he represents Haiti; Kali Uchis is Colombian-American, therefore, she represents Colombia.)
  7. The big countries of Europe are forced to play a play off to decide which country will participate of the tournments.

The big countries

edit

From the 29th edition onwards, each continent has a specific list of countries from it that are refered as the big countries, that determines the strongest teams of each continent, in order to make the cups more balanced and with a higher diversity of winning countries, said big countries need to participate of a play off to participate of their continental cups, with the european countries having to also play them in the world cup. These are the countries that are applied to the matter:

The big countries of each continent
Continent Countries Vacancies
Africa   Mali,   Nigeria,   South Africa and   Zambia 2
Americas   Brazil,   Canada,   Jamaica and   United States 2
Asia and Oceania   Australia,   Japan,   New Zealand and   South Korea 2
Europe   England,   France,   Germany,   Ireland,   Scotland and   Sweden 3

Hosting method

edit

Depending of how the cup is organized, there might be many different game schemes, refered as "host methods", these are the current existing hosting methods:

  • Discord: Cups hosted in a discord call
  • Individual: Cups done by myself
  • IRL: Cups hosted in real life
  • Facebook group: Cups done publicly in a facebook group, no longer in use

Variants

edit

Each of the methods above might have a specific variant that shifts how the game behaves, these are the current existing variants:

  • S.A. (Single artist): Games where each country is represented by only one artist
  • External: Games where I select the songs that are going to participate, but I don't vote in the cup, only manage. (These cannot be combined with the Individual method.)
  • Frch. (Franchised): Games that while I still pick the songs, I'm not the host, and I may or may not participate of the cup in itself.

Classification

edit

The classification method for each cup depends on research, and all the 24 or 32 countries that reach 7 songs by different artists available will automatically qualify to the world cup. That proccess is necessary, but some countries have special conditions and/or permanent pass, the permanent pass is a guarantee that the country will always be automatically qualified to every world cup, due to its omnipresence in the worldwide music scene, these are Australia, Canada, England and the United States. Brazil also has the permanent pass, but that's because I am brazilian, therefore is much easier to get brazilian songs for the list than the international folks. The special conditions are also related to the country's strength, the idea of those is to make the countries weaker, therefore, making matches against other countries more fair, these are the countries that are affected by the special conditions:

Countries with special conditions
Country Intensity Condition Permanent Pass
England Very High All songs must be shuffled. Yes
  United States
Australia High Songs will be shuffled until England's and United States's lists gets completed, meanwhile, invalid songs can be replaced by shuffled tracks from the same album.

After that, artists can be picked manually, but songs will be shuffled within a specific album.

  Brazil
  Canada
Germany Medium Songs will be shuffled until England's and United States's lists gets completed, meanwhile, invalid songs can be replaced by tracks from the same album.

After that, artists can be picked manually, but songs will be shuffled in their discography.

No
  Japan
  Sweden
Ireland Low Songs will be shuffled until England's and United States's lists gets completed, meanwhile, invalid songs can be replaced by tracks from the artist's discography.

After that, songs and artists will be picked manually.

  France
  Scotland

Together with that, from the fifth edition onwards, all continents had a fixated number of countries to participate, originally, the only rule was to have at least one country per continent, but it was readapted to avoid overdominance of european countries. This is the current rule.

From the seventh edition onwards, the americas, originally split between North and South America, were unified.
