The Amerivision Song Contest 1961 was the sixth edition of the annual Amerivision Song Contest, organised by the American Broadcasting Union (ABU) and host broadcaster National Broadcasting Corporation. The edition was hosted in the Auditorium Theatre, in Chicago, United States. Originally the edition was going to be hosted in Uruguay, but the uruguayan broadcaster Canal 10 declined the offer to host the event due to budget reasons, as they hadn't already fully recovered from hosting the event in 1958, the offer then went to Canada, who also declined the offer after hosting two near consecutive editions, then a general offer was made and accepted by NBC, who promptly started working in hosting the 1961 event in the United States.
This was the first edition to feature the Dominican Republic.
