- ^ Myanmar (MYA): The 2016 General Aung San Shield final was won by Magwe who also qualified for the AFC Cup by finishing third in the league. Ayeyawady United qualified as the fourth place finisher during the 2016 Myanmar National League.

- ^ Palestine (PLE): The 2016–17 Palestine Cup final was won by Ahli Al-Khalil who also qualified for the AFC Cup by finishing third in the league. Markaz Balata qualified as the fourth place finisher during the 2016–17 West Bank Premier League.
- ^ Qatar (QAT): Umm Salal qualified for the AFC Cup in the vacated 2016 Emir of Qatar Cup was won by Lekhwiya, who qualfied for the 2017–18 AFC Champions League by winning the 2016–17 Qatar Stars League.
- ^ Saudi Arabia: Fourth place finishers of the 2016–17 Saudi Professional League, Ittihad, were barred from Asian competitions for being in bad financial standing with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation. Fifth-place finishers, Al-Raed qualified for the place instead.
- ^ Singapore 1 (SIN 1): The 2016 Singapore Cup is open to teams outside of Singapore, meaning the if a non-Singaporean club wins the competition, the highest finishing Singaporean club wins the cup berth for Singapore. The cup winner, Albirex Niigata Singapore is ineligible due to being a satellite team of Albirex Niigata, a Japanese club. Runners-up, Tampines Rovers vacated their berth, due to qualifying for the 2017–18 AFC Champions League by being the highest finishing Singaporean club during the 2016 S.League. Balestier Khalsa finished in fourth place during the 2016 Singapore Cup, and by virtue of being the second highest finishing Singaporean team in the competition, earned an AFC Cup berth.
- ^ Singapore 2 (SIN 2): Home United qualified for the AFC Cup by the virtue of being the highest placed Singaporean club during the 2016 S.League that didn't qualify for the 2017–18 AFC Champions League.
- ^ Syria (SYR): The 2016 Syrian Cup was won by Al-Wahda who qualified for the AFC Cup by finishing fourth in the league. Al-Jaish qualified as the fifth place finisher during the 2016–17 Syrian Premier League
- ^ Tahiti (TAH): Tefana qualified for the AFC Cup in the vacated 2016 Tahiti Cup spot, which was won by Dragon, who qualified for the 2017–18 AFC Champions League by winning the 2016–17 Tahiti Ligue 1.
