Article Hook Photo Date and time Views per hour Backstory
"Filli Vanilli" ... that the title of the My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic episode "Filli Vanilli" references the lip-syncing scandal of the German-French R&B duo Milli Vanilli? 24 November 2021, 12h 103.8 I was always a bit "eh" when it came to featured content. One day I just said "fuck it" and nominated this, which was my latest creation at that time. Worst-performing hook to date.
SoloTürk ... that the aerobatic demonstration aircraft (pictured) used by SoloTürk is also used in military operations of the Turkish Air Force?   23 December 2021, 24h 709.4
- Akuşağı, Baskil ... that the villagers of Akuşağı in Turkey have used their tractors to take tourists to a local attraction? 8 January 2022, 12h 165.7 While I'm given credits for this, I almost haven't had any contribution in its fivefold expansion, and my name only had to be included to make it eligable for DYK.
Deli Mike ... that from 1996 to 2019, Turkish Airlines operated an aircraft that would not move a meter on the ground when "she didn't feel like it"? 15 January 2022, 12h 984.7 A popular plane in Turkish aviation that didn't have an article. Listed on That Wikipedia List.
"The Perfect Pear" ... that the main storyline of the My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic episode "The Perfect Pear" comes from a long-running joke among the show's staff? 4 March 2022, 24h 283.0
Bayraktar (song) ... that a Ukrainian soldier has written a song dedicated to the Turkish combat drone Bayraktar TB2? 9 April 2022, 12h 308.1 Found this in a terrible state while patrolling new pages. Draftified it, then improved it myself in a few days because it was hilarious.
Uzunköprü Bridge ... that the Uzunköprü Bridge was the longest bridge in the Ottoman Empire and later Turkey for 530 years until 1973, when it was surpassed by the Bosphorus Bridge? 17 June 2022, 24h 498.8 A bridge that I crossed many times. Such a historic bridge, yet it had only a few paragraphs of text on any Wikipedia. Wasn't too difficult to fivefold the prose.
Turkish Airlines fleet ... that when expanding the airline's fleet in 1989, the directors of Turkish Airlines did not fulfil the request of Turkey's president to buy the Boeing 747, and ordered the Airbus A340 (example pictured) instead?   31 July 2022, 12h 395.4 Splitting this into a seperate article from Turkish Airlines in 2018 was one of the first things I ever did on Wikipedia. I was stupid back then and did almost everything wrong, and it was merged back later. I started working on making this a proper article in January 2022. It was moved into the mainspace 6 months later. It took me 4 years to finalize what I always wanted to do.
Turkish Airlines Flight 301 ... that Turkish prime minister Bülent Ecevit's first order in office was to send the minister of transport to the crash site of Turkish Airlines Flight 301 (aircraft pictured)?   3 September 2022, 12h 1072.6 Despite not being too interesting to me, this is my best-performing hook to date.
Vecihi K-VI ... that after building Turkey's first airplane (pictured), its builder was sentenced to jail for flying it without a permit?   18 September 2022, 24h 591.3
1972 Turkish Airlines Adana crash ... that a Turkish Airlines aircraft that crashed in 1972 had been due to carry Turkish Prime Minister Nihat Erim later that day? 30 September 2022, 24h 265.9
Geliyoo ... that the search engine of Geliyoo was found to be retrieving its results from Google, in contrast to the company's claims of spending 10 million Turkish liras on development? 6 October 2022, 24h 273.3 How much do I hate someone promoting their company on Wikipedia? Enough to get it to GA status and run a criticizing hook about them on DYK.
- Oil and natural gas refining in Turkmenistan ... that while oil and gas production is a large part of Turkmenistan's economy, there are only two oil refineries in Turkmenistan? 9 October 2022, 24h 138.1 Officially not credited for this. This article had a significant portion of its text copied from a source in the public domain with proper attribution. However, according to the length requirements, all of the copied text did not count as new content, which I missed before approving as the reviewer. Once it got on the main page it spawned this discussion on the nominators talk; when it became clear that the article wasn't eligible Theleekycauldron started copy-editing and I added new content with new sources. Once it was resolved, the nominator blanked the discussion without much input.
Vecihi Hürkuş ... that Turkish aviation pioneer Vecihi Hürkuş had to transport his second plane to Prague just to get it certified? 16 October 2022, 12h 127.7
De Boom Die Alles Zag ... that a grey poplar in Amsterdam is "the tree that saw it all"? 24 October 2022, 12h 876.0 Credits to Theleekycauldron for coming up with an alternative hook.
Weesperplein metro station ... that the platform below the Weesperplein metro station was used as a fallout shelter after the line that was supposed to run through it got cancelled? 27 October 2022, 12h 314.0
Wibautstraat metro station ... that the letters on the platform walls of Wibautstraat metro station (pictured) refer to the offices of Dutch newspapers that were located on the street above?   7 November 2022, 12h 331.8
Waterlooplein metro station ... that a 1975 "open tube" event (pictured) at Waterlooplein metro station gave citizens of Amsterdam their first look at the city's metro system?   3 December 2022, 24h 263.8
Nieuwmarkt metro station ... that the riots protesting the destruction of the houses in Nieuwmarkt are memorialised in its namesake station? 16 February 2023, 24h 143.7 The unbolded Nieuwmarkt riots article in the hook got more views than the bolded station: 195.2 per hour.
Kamil Tolon ... that inventor Kamil Tolon manufactured the first Turkish electric engine after prime minister Adnan Menderes prohibited him from importing them? 25 August 2023, 12h 278.6
Line 51 (Amsterdam Metro) ... that Line 51 of the Amsterdam Metro was called an express tram because the term "metro" was too controversial in the city? 15 January 2024, 24h 272.0
Atatürk residential area ... that Turkish migrant workers living in a residential complex in Amsterdam refused to eat the Dutch food for two weeks after the kitchen's only Turkish chef was fired? 30 January 2024, 12h 278.8
Tamer Balcı ... that Olympic hammer thrower Tamer Balcı was later cast in a movie as Tarzan? 27 February 2024, 24h 425.3 Saved from AfD.
Fesa Evrensev ... that World Pilots' Day is celebrated on 26 April to commemorate Fesa Evrensev's first flight, which took place 112 years ago today? 26 April 2024, 24h 427.8
S1/S2 (Amsterdam Metro) ... that the S1/S2 rolling stock of the Amsterdam Metro was also a tram? 1 September 2024, 24h 221.6
