Yes, that's how it goes. And I'll add that my "more sources" may also not stand up to scrutiny: the number of valid hits in a Google Books search is often wildly inaccurate. I have no doubt that you might well be correct in an originary sense, but with immigrants' last names it's often like this. Well, at least we have a redirect now.
