Immanuel Abraham concerning the "Beta Israel Wikiproject"
editDear Lior, I would love to be an editor for that page. You Messaged me, and I was not sure how to reply. But definitely, thank you. Shalom. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Immanuel Abraham (talk • contribs) 15:57, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
- You welcome Immanuel, looking forward to see you there :) Shalom, Lior (talk) 19:02, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
Sorry I haven't gotten back to you; I'm travelling at the moment and don't have time to make any substantial edits. I'll be glad to help out with Beta Israel come June.--Yolgnu (talk) 03:06, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
- By the way, I'm not your speaker. Don't worry, I too often think that someone I meet on the Internet is someone I know in real life, but they never are.--Yolgnu (talk) 01:17, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
Genre
editI think you should be a bit more careful regarding genre.
Juggedhair (talk) 21:12, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for you concern. I'm afraid I didn't understand what you mean by genre. Could you please elaborate? Lior (talk) 22:09, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
- In second thought, I think you are right. At least regarding Kayla and Abatte Barihun. Both articles require revision - There is no musicological understanding behind the analysis of the Ras Deshen album, and the article about Kayla is most partial. At the Hebrew Wikipedia, I feel more like I'm working in a collaboration in which my bias is eventually corrected, sooner or later. At the English Wikipedia I often get the feeling of "every man to himself", but I'm trying to avoid that recently and sometimes I even succeed. At the moment I concentrate my contributions in Hebrew, but I believe that will change withing a few years. I'll be happy to hear the rest of your reflections. Best, Lior (talk) 22:14, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Gish Abay, Felege Ghion
editThey are written ጊሽ ዓባይ (Gish Abbay) and ፈለገ ጊዮን (Felege Giyon), respectively. Note that while the "A" in Abbay is an Ayn, it's pronounced like an Alif in Amharic. — ዮም | (Yom) | Talk • contribs • Ethiopia 16:11, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- Shukran jazilan! I'm still pondering whether to transliterate as פלג גיֹן or as פלגה גיוֹן. If you were to transliterate it to Arabic, will you write فلـﭻ ﭼـيـن or فلـﭼـه ﭼـيون ?
- I have two more questions when you find the time:
- Many thanks, ליאור (talk) 15:11, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
- In Arabic, I would use فلـﭻ ﭼـيـن or فلـﭻ ﭼـيون. The ta-marbutah can be used to show the last vowel if you like, but there is no such letter in Ge'ez or related languages in Ethiopia. Rather it's a consonant like -t/-it (Ethiopian = Ityop'yawi, or Ityop'yawit for a woman; life is Hiywet/ሕይወት, whereas in Arabic it's 7ayyah/حياة). Tiya is ቲያ, I believe, though I haven't heard it spoken by an Ethiopian, I've seen no indication the "t" is an ejective, so it's a straightforward transliteration.
- As for Ch'ilga, it's in NW Ethiopia. I don't know of any Chilga in Southern Ethiopia. I would bet money she's talking about the one near Gonder, as there were Beta Israel and Kemant around there, and it's on the historic trading route to Sudan (so those going to Israel would likely pass through it). — ዮም | (Yom) | Talk • contribs • Ethiopia 13:58, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
Move
editI noticed you changed all Abudraham to Abudirham. If you can't source that spelling, we shall have to revert it, because sources say Abudraham. Debresser (talk) 22:14, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

Picasa images on Commons
editHi! I noticed that you have uploaded some images from Picasa to Commons. I think you take some very good images. So I wondered why you do not link to your page on Picasa :-) --MGA73 (talk) 10:50, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you Michael for your kind compliment :) Could you please specify where should I place the link? Thanks, ליאור (talk) 21:52, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
- It is not a must - just a suggestion :-) On your user page you have a section User:ליאור#Contact. If you think it fit in you could place it there. Of course you could also link the other way (from picasaweb to Wikipedia and/or Commons). --MGA73 (talk) 21:06, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
- Done :-) And thanks a lot for saving my works on Commons from the mighty bot :-) Cheers, ליאור (talk) 09:12, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
I just want to remind you that articles within the scope of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, including Gaza flotilla clash, are within the scope of discretionary sanctions due to an arbitration request. Edit-warring on the article may lead to a block in light of these sanctions, as well as in light of our general policy against edit-warring. -- tariqabjotu 17:25, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- Could you please provide a more specific advice regarding my contributions to this article, or is it just a general advice to divert my attention to more important articles (a wonderful advice on its own, I must say)? Because five years of editing in Wikipedia slowly taught me how to occasionally touch sensitive topics as well. Thanks, ליאור (talk) 20:25, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- I don't have a problem with you contributing to the article. It was just that, at the time at least, it appeared as if you were edit-warring over the infobox image. -- tariqabjotu 20:37, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Beta Israel
editHi Lior! I see that you've been adding an update tag using a misleading edit summary in the article Beta Israel (like here). Usually if you are disputing facts in the article and actually have sources, it's best to rewrite it yourself, but if that's difficult, you should place the dispute on the talk page and not the actual page (or at least, both the main and talk page so that people can discuss your proposals). Also, please be careful to use relevant edit summaries. Cheers, Ynhockey (Talk) 18:04, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Yan, I'll proceed in Hebrew.
Lior (talk) 19:18, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
- —Ynhockey (Talk) 22:33, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
Lior (talk) 06:11, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

Pollinators
editHi, I added an answer to you question about pollinators. Just mentioning it here in case you stopped looking for new answers there. Very interesting question. The ability of parasitoid wasps to pollinate is not well-understood, and they are often overlooked, but they do pollinate! SemanticMantis (talk) 17:22, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
- Fascinating! I've answered there. Many thanks! ליאור • Lior (talk) 17:07, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
- What I've mentioned is very hard to show empirically, and it is not specific to braconids. Really, almost any host-specific parasitoid wasp is a decent candidate for pollinating, but I don't know enough to tell you all the families where that occurs. It gets even more likely when the host (e.g. caterpillar) only lays eggs on a specific plant (e.g. monarchs on milkweed). I suppose you'd also have to consider the phenology to see if adults are ovipositing when flowers are open. As for theory, this wouldn't be described by lotka-volterra equations, because the three species have unique roles:none of them are direct competitors, and only two of them are similar to predator/prey. I suspect rigorous theory papers on this topic are very scarce, and making/analyzing a model is probably original research. I happen to be somewhat of a theoretical ecologist, and was recently involved in paper that presents empirical analysis on the related (but much broader) topic of plant-pollinator networks. It has not been accepted yet, but if you are still interested in a few months, leave a note at my talk page or email :) SemanticMantis (talk) 00:33, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
Phineas Gage "Good Article" review
editHaving make ten or more edits to the article on Phineas Gage, or commented on its Talk in the last two years, perhaps you will be interested in the Good Article Review currently underway. I am particularly interested in gathering broader opinion on the following comment by the reviewer: "Many sentences are much too long for easy reading and to my mind overuse complicated constructions ... I will very strongly recommend a copy edit with ease of reading in mind, breaking up complex sentences and disentwining some of the flowery language." EEng (talk) 22:41, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
