Greatest concern

edit

Hello エリック・キィ,

I want to suggest that it is not a good idea to add "IUCN3.1" to plant articles. It gives the impression to readers that it's okay to collect them. In the case of all Australian orchids (such as Thelymitra cyanea and Pterostylis humilis) and probably other plant species, it is illegal to pick, or otherwise disturb them. Please stop adding that conservation staus to plant articles. Gderrin (talk) 20:25, 12 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Gderrin: I understand what you are afraid of and there are some systems evaluating conservation status other than IUCN Red List, but I will not remove my edit at least of Thelymitra cyanea, since it is worth showing what evaluation IUCN has concluded and there is already mention about its endangered status in South Australia. It seems that you have knowledge about illegality of collecting such species, so please add mentions and references of this topic. From now on I will refer to regional status and conservation practices as possible when I add information of IUCN containing not so serious assessment. --Eryk Kij (talk) 03:42, 13 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Excellent reply. Thank you very much. And you are right about what I could/should add about collecting. Many species are collected illegally. Sometimes whole clumps of critically endangered orchids are dug up and taken away, often with no chance of being grown in the garden. Where possible, I will add information on that subject from now on. Gderrin (talk) 03:51, 13 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited National symbols of Nicaragua, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Lemonwood (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Authority for Perovskia pamirica

Well spotted! Yes, Plants of the World Online seems to be wrong in using "C.Y.Yang". I've e-mailed them, so hopefully it will be corrected eventually. Peter coxhead (talk) 09:43, 3 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • @Peter coxhead: Happy New Year and thank you very much! I find fault with contents of Plants of the World Online and IPNI in terms of spelling, authority, other bibliographical information, distribution and taxonomy and tend to report in a lump every time, so my progress is like that of a turtle. As for "C.Y.Yang", I suspect all names published in Sylva Xinjianensis (ISBN 9787503859571; Chinese: 新疆树木志) belong to YANG Changyou, who is the editor of that publication and was affiliated with a predecessor organization of Xinjiang Agricultural University. In the current situation, however, I hesitate to file the request since the book seems not available on-line at all, which makes us difficult to testify the idea. --Eryk Kij (talk) 05:45, 6 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
