Rollback
I have 1 granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks. — Tivedshambo (t/c) 15:17, 25 June 2008 (UTC) — Tivedshambo (t/c) 15:17, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

The Baseball WikiProject Newsletter Issue I – July 2008 | |

Baseball has a history unlike any other sport. It has been played in countless countries throughout the decades, and it will undoubtedly continue play for many more. On this eve, some the finest players the sport has to offer will take the field at the Yankee Stadium. Four popes spoke there, Pelé scored goals there, "The Greatest [football] Game Ever Played" was battled out there, John Philip Sousa lead a band there, George Costanza worked there; but what do all these events have in common? They fail to reach the level of greatness that the baseball that was played there did. In 1923, a man named Babe Ruth decided to build a new house, and over the years, that house was a home to some of the greatest baseball ever played. If I were to list out all of these great moments, it would be longer than the bill for the New Yankee Stadium. So I'll sum it up by saying that we can remember these great moments by adding them to this place we've gathered at for future generations to read about, to learn about, to dream about; but more importantly we can watch tonight and we can remember how baseball is unlike anything else that we will encounter in our lives. — Blackngold29 |

- Suure, that's OBVIOUS vandalism
I don't think it's generally appropriate to vandal warn for removing DB tags. Generally, a polite "please don't do that-- do this instead" suffices Cheers, Dlohcierekim 13:55, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

My edit to United States Clean Air Act
The section I removed was entirely uncited and blatantly taken from another website. No care was even taken to remove the "Top of page" segments in between paragraphs. This removal of content was faithful and necessary. --24.186.218.250 (talk) 23:06, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

eoCMS Thanks for your patience
Hi. Sorry about the little argument last night. What with the release being tomorrow, the boss is a bit tetchy. I've updated the eoCMS page to make it a lot less biased. I was kind of hoping you might have a read and reconsider the speedy deletion?
Thanks whichever way. E.G Interactive (talk) 19:02, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
- Well, it's up for deletion, not speedy. The problem is, your software is not at ALL notable, and therefore, really shouldn't be on wikipedia. If you can find me some sites other than your own that actually discuss (in depth, EG a review) eoCMS, then provide it to the AFD entry and maybe it won't get deleted. Otherwise, the software has no business with an article on it. DavidWS (talk) 19:04, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Hello! Since you replaced your Twinkle UBX with a different one, would it be alright to add {{User:UBX/notwinkle}} to your userpage, or will you add the Twinkle UBX later? SchfiftyThree (talk!) 01:15, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
- I don't really use Twinkle much for vandalism, so yes, that's fine. I'm going to add a Huggle one in a bit. Thanks for asking! DavidWS (talk) 01:16, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
- No problem. And, I must say, along with your incredible Huggle work, the fact that you switched to Huggle and made a revert exactly 2 seconds after you made the response is kind of surprising to me. Keep up the good work. SchfiftyThree (talk!) 01:22, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hehe, thanks. I always have both Firefox and Huggle open, so I'll go to my messages, reply, and then minimize, and the next edit happened to be vandalism. Cheers, DavidWS (talk) 01:23, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:NetNanny.jpg}
Thank you for uploading Image:NetNanny.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. - Oh, wow, I WIN! I ROCK! lol...stupid huggle interface, sent it to the wrong person. OH well, not a big deal :D Oh, by the way, thanks for that revert during school today, I didn't want to log in because everything there is IP banned and I would get an autoblock. DavidWS (talk) 19:10, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- No problem... Is the IP hardblocked? If so you could request an IP block exemption... –xeno (talk) 19:15, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- I think it is hardblocked, because there was someone in my study hall who made like 15 sock puppets last week to vandalize J.delanoy's page. (Yes, I yelled at him. He just laughed and called me a nerd) Maybe I'll try logging in tomorrow and I'll see if I get an autoblock, and if so, I may request exemption. I thought it was only really exceptional circumstances where they'll do that for you though, and I'm not sure if my wanting another excuse not to do my work counts. Anyway, I'll look at the policy again. DavidWS (talk) 19:18, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- Well, the autoblocking only lasts for 24 hours so as long as he hasn't used a logged in sockpuppet, you won't get caught in the autoblock (if its a softblock). If it's a hardblock though, you won't be able to edit without the IPBE anyway. –xeno (talk) 19:20, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- So I'll be able to log in, but won't get blocked then, and just won't be able to edit? Okay, then that gives me confidence that I won't get blocked tomorrow when I try to login. Unless he's continued. The whole range of our school (which includes pretty much all of the schools in the area that I live, actually) is blocked until April. I'll see what happens tomorrow. DavidWS (talk) 19:22, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- Just check to see if the block is "anon only" if it is you should be able to log in. Then, if no logged in user has been blocked in the last 24 hours then you shouldn't get caught in an autoblock. If you do, just request an unblock for being autoblocked. An autoblock doesn't affect your block log. If you're on the GRID though that's been hardblocked. –xeno (talk) 19:27, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, sure. I don't know what the GRID is so I'll assume I'm not on it, but I'm not sure. And I don't need to edit from school, it'd just be nice for when I am bored in class, have no homework during our free period, etc. By the way (completely off topic) is there a tool that monitors the AIV page for new vandals and shows there contributions and gives you a block button (obviously for admins). If not, I think I'm going to write one for the sysops here. I think that'd be nice to have. DavidWS (talk) 19:32, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- Not that I know of, that would be sweet. –xeno (talk) 19:43, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, hopefully I can get it done by next Saturday. I don't have that much time for coding during the week, on Saturday and Sunday I have basically the whole day. It shouldn't be too hard. Would you be willing to test it if/when necessary? DavidWS (talk) 19:44, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- Sure... I'll try to poke around in the meantime and make sure you're not re-inventing the wheel. –xeno (talk) 19:46, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, cool. Either way, it's a fun project. I'm probably going to use either some of the AWB codebase or some of the Huggle codebase, so technically, either way, I'm not reinventing the wheel. DavidWS (talk) 19:55, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey, about your warning user:Aftermidmusic. They were the original author of Vita Nelson so the page should have been taged with {{csd-g7}} instead of warning the user. Thanks, Non-dropframe (talk) 20:19, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey, I seen your message on J.delanoy's talkpage and thought I'd boot into Windows and give the program a shot. Tried to block an IP and got: Error: send the following to davidws: <?xml version="1.0"?><api><block user="75.108.122.220" userID="0" expiry="2008-11-02T16:59:54Z" reason="vandalism" nocreate="" /></api> but it still blocked them, also it blocks with "Allow this user to edit own talk page while blocked" turned off (which is why blocking in Huggle is disabled at the moment) and in some cases it shows the name of reporter in the menu. Nonetheless a very good idea, pity it only works on Windows though :p ~ User:Ameliorate! (with the !) (talk) 17:19, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, well, in that case I just need to change the parsing a little bit. This is written in VB6, for one, so it should run in WINE on Linux and Crossover on mac. I haven't tested it yet. That "error" is actually the response the code looks for, so I just screwed something up. Thanks for testing it. Also, I don't think there is anything in te API to block the user from editing their own talk page. Is that a problem? Thanks, DavidWS (talk) 19:43, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
- I uploaded a new version to googlecode that should have fixed the "error error" DavidWS (talk) 19:56, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
- Oooh, I know why it sometimes shows the name of the reporter. That is the people who have their contribs in their signature. I can fix that, too. DavidWS (talk) 20:03, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Re: Smile
Thanks! I see you've begun to do AfDs in addition to your Huggle reverting. AfDs are quite fun, don't you think? Makes me feel like I'm making more of a contribution than just sitting on Huggle and inflating my edit count! DARTH PANDAduel 05:51, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, they are quite fun :D. I've also been programming a tool for sysops. DavidWS (contribs) 12:43, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
temporary admin status
This has come up before and the community hasn't liked the idea.
However, are you so sure you're not a good candidate for a regular RfA? --Dweller (talk) 21:58, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- Well, actually, I think I'm an okay candidate, but I don't really know if I want to nominate myself. I'm not sure if I have enough experience in all areas. I do feel I have a good knowledge of blocking policy, and of the AfD process, and I have written a couple of articles. I'll review some past RfAs and see if anyone with experience like mine (I was thinking along the lines of J.delanoy, as he has similar experience as me, it seems), and see if I would stand a fighting chance. If I could maybe find someone who would co-nom me, I would probably take the plunge. Cheers, DavidWS (contribs) 22:01, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
Hang fire. I'll review you in the morning (my time). I have a standing offer to nominate unusual candidates and so far it's going well. Meantime, a few questions:
- Are you civil in discussion with other users?
- Do you have any experience in adminny areas?
- Any skeletons in your cupboard?
- Any previous RfA or editor review under this or any other username?
Cheers --Dweller (talk) 22:30, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- 1. Yes, I don't think I have ever lost my temper on Wikipedia.
- 2. Well, I have a good amount of experience in new page patrol. I have 180 deleted edits (I suppose that shows CSD experience) I also have been (more recently) active in AfD. And just in case, I do not want you to think that the only reason I've been active in AFD is due to my wanting to become a sysop. In fact, I didn't really even give that reason much thought until now. I simply have enjoyed partaking in that process.
- 3. Well, not really. When I was in fourth (or maybe third, in any case, years ago) grade I vandalized at school to some degree, but since then, I have never vandalized.
- 4. Nope.
- Cheers (and what timezone are you in :P), DavidWS (contribs) 22:37, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- Minor addendum to question number two. I've also created some accounts from the account creation interface, I can check to see how many if you'd like. DavidWS (contribs) 22:47, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- Sounds good. I'll take a squint at your contribs today. I live in Her Maj's floating kingdom, so I'm on GMT. It's currently 10:12am where I am. --Dweller (talk) 10:12, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

I've had a good look at your contribs and I don't think you're ready. You've only really been seriously contributing for a few weeks and that alone makes you a bad prospect, as there's bound to be plenty of important policy you're unaware of. Keep going with what you're doing and try to do some more content work, too - there must be some topics you're interested in you can edit on, as it'll help you pick up the policies and guidelines. At the end of November, create an editor review for yourself and once you've had some comment on it, please drop me a line and let me know. Looking forward to seeing you with a mop soon. --Dweller (talk) 10:36, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
- Have you considered creating a test wiki using the MediaWiki software for development of your tool? Granted a sandbox doesn't help in picking out bugs based on user actions (for example, you probably wouldn't have tested having a contributions link in the signature) but it does help to a point in getting a tool stable and it isn't too difficult to set up Apache, MySQL and PHP locally. I use a localhost wiki for testing my bots and the only change that needs to be made during migration is changing the URLs from http://localhost to http://en.wikipedia.org. ~ User:Ameliorate! - For some reason, the block function isn't present in the API on a local wiki. I already tried this. Thanks though, DavidWS (contribs) 11:35, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
- It should be. Is your local wiki up to date? As the API function was only added in version 1.12. ~ User:Ameliorate! (with the !) (talk) 11:48, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

RfA thanks
I have closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Blake Fitzpatrick due to a withdrawal by the nominator. However there were several delete votes, including you. My rational for closing the debate can be found on the AfD page. If you still wish for this to go through AfD, please renominate, and let me know. Thanks. DARTH PANDAduel 21:14, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
- If it does end up as a good (well, you know what I mean, not classified like that) article, then I'm fine with it staying, seeing as someone found a source for it. Thanks for letting me know. DavidWS (contribs) 21:16, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
- No problem. I was just being bold, as usual. Hopefully, all of the other delete voters are like you and don't feel the need to take my head off :D DARTH PANDAduel 21:18, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
