editHello, I'm Dheerajmpai23. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions have been undone because they did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the help desk. Thanks. Dheerajmpai23 (talk) 11:20, 19 April 2019 (UTC)
- If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so you can avoid further irrelevant notices.
- Your edits maybe right but there are too many grammatical errors. You should correct them as well if you reinsert your edits. Dheerajmpai23 (talk) 11:24, 19 April 2019 (UTC)
- The edits before me had far more grammatical errors including using lower case when capital case should be used, I'm not perfect in writing English. If you see an error please feel free to correct it or contact me about it. 59.96.135.31 (talk) 11:31, 19 April 2019 (UTC)
- FYI. Dheerajmpai23 probably does not know you responded. Possibly if that editor has your talk page on their WP:WATCHLIST. The solution to this is to go to their talk page to discussion. Here: User_talk:Dheerajmpai23. Or to WP:PING them. I suggest going to their talk page for now, unless they show up here to discuss with you. You also want to WP:INDENT. I have fixed the indentation with this edit by adding the appropriate number of colons. --David Tornheim (talk) 11:40, 19 April 2019 (UTC) [revised 11:42, 19 April 2019 (UTC)]
Welcome!
editHello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I greatly appreciate your constructive edits on Wikipedia. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages you might like to see:
- The five pillars of Wikipedia

- Help pages
- Tutorial
- How to write a great article
- How to create your first article (using the Article Wizard if you wish)
- Simplified Manual of Style

You are welcome to continue editing without logging in, but many editors recommend that you create an account. Doing so is free, requires no personal information, and provides several benefits, such as the ability to create articles. For a full outline and explanation of the benefits that come with creating an account, please see this page. If you edit without a username, your IP address (59.96.135.31) is used to identify you instead.
In any case, I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your IP address (or username if you're logged in) and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question and then place {{helpme}}
before the question on this page.
Again, welcome! --David Tornheim (talk) 11:29, 19 April 2019 (UTC)
When editors disagree with you
editSome advice for you as a new editor: If an editor reverts you like this, do not revert back as you did here. Editors like myself and Dheerajmpai23 are doing vandalism reversion, and your edits might have looked like vandalism. Instead of reverting back, go to the talk page and make your case there. Put a notice on the editor's talk page that you want to talk about the edits that got reverted if you don't get a response. (You can "ping" them instead, but that takes a bit more skill. I can tell you about that another time.)
Please read up on WP:BRD and on WP:EW. This help you understand some of the rules about reverting.
Fyi to Dheerajmpai23 <-- This is a ping.
--David Tornheim (talk) 11:35, 19 April 2019 (UTC)
- Can you explain how my edits looked like vandalism? I don't know what anyone would see wrong with it. Some of the claims were pushing into absurd territory like Hindu population in Pakistan is 14% before I came. 59.96.135.31 (talk) 11:39, 19 April 2019 (UTC)
- I will answer in just a second. Please read WP:INDENT in the mean time. --David Tornheim (talk) 11:45, 19 April 2019 (UTC)
- I would rather not try to explain WP:VANDALISM reversion, other than to say there are A LOT of people who make mince-meat of our articles on a regular basis--especially the Indian articles, and sometimes good edits look questionable. I don't know if you are aware of the strict sourcing requirements per WP:RS that we have. Many of our articles do NOT follow them, so if you make changes, your changes may look like improvements to someone who knows the subject, but might be reverted as unsourced additions by a Wikipedian on vandalism patrol. If you can defend your edits with logic, reason and especially reliable sources, you should be okay.
- Here's my advice: Make sure you have good sources, and don't revert without discussing. Edit wars are bad news and can get you blocked.
- Be patient. If your edits reflect what is in the sources, they should eventually stick. Does that help? --David Tornheim (talk) 11:50, 19 April 2019 (UTC)
Advice
editIf you have questions, please feel free to go to my talk page, or WP:PING me here. Try not to get upset if someone reverts something that you think should stick.--David Tornheim (talk) 11:53, 19 April 2019 (UTC)
FYI. I asked about how to deal with the fact that you now have effectively two IP addresses to an WP:ADMIN here: User_talk:SlimVirgin#Question_about_IPs --David Tornheim (talk) 12:12, 19 April 2019 (UTC)
This is the discussion page for an IP user, identified by the user's IP address. Many IP addresses change periodically, and are often shared by several users. If you are an IP user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other IP users. Registering also hides your IP address. |
