Speedy deletion nomination of User:AdavoWorkspace/Sample page

edit

A tag has been placed on your user page, User:AdavoWorkspace/Sample page, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.   Hello, I'm Drm310. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to the main body of Ticket exchange. Generally, any relevant external links should be listed in an "External links" section at the end of the article and meet the external links guidelines. Links within the body of an article should be internal Wikilinks. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Adavo LTD

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Adavo LTD, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. ~TNT (she/they • talk) 16:46, 24 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Requested username:

Request reason:

I wasn't aware I couldn't create a Wikipedia account with our company name. This will no longer be done

Decline reason:

That would be an acceptable new username(you don't have to use your real name if you don't want to). However, your username is only one small aspect of the block; please address your inappropriate edits and violation of WP:COI and WP:PAID. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 09:43, 27 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

Hello, I understand now that with the username AdavoWorkspace It seemed like I was simply just promoting the business. My job at Adavo requires me to create a Wikipedia Page for the business, in no way is this my business. I simply just work here. Would I be able to disclose this somehow and get the page back? As the content within the Page was simply just a draft and was not published, which really doesn't make sense why it was deleted. A lot of the information would have still been changed and a lot of research was done to get to the point where the page was at. Thank you

Decline reason:

We aren't interested in what your company wishes to say about itself and it's deeply inappropriate for your company to demand you violate WP:COI and WP:PAID. Yamla (talk) 11:12, 27 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

Can you please share the example of where this is deemed to be inappropriate? There are millions of companies listed on Wikipedia, all of which have had to get the information written by someone they employed? I really don't understand how me writing the history of our buildings & Adavo is extremely inappropriate? Also stating that Wikipedia is not interested in what our company wishes to say about ourselves is extremely inappropriate and not how a company should treat their residents. Within my reply, I stated that we would disclose everything required and yet it seems like what I stated was completely ignored. All images/text are taken/written by us and we hold all copyrights.

Decline reason:

331dot's comments below go into the reasons in more depth, but the core aspects are that Wikipedia utilises independent secondary sources, and, in almost all cases, non-connected editors to write about companies. Additionally, copyrighted materials require a specific disclosure that very, very, few companies will want to give. Nosebagbear (talk) 14:11, 5 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

You seriously misunderstand what Wikipedia is about, articles about companies are not written by employees they are written by editors independent of companies who summarise what independent reliable sources have chosen to say about said companies. Lavalizard101 (talk) 13:36, 27 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

So about your wikipedia page? You state your love of dinosaurs, did you get an independent editor to write this for you? I clearly don't understand Wikipedia as I'm trying to get your help... Which is proving useless..— Preceding unsigned comment added by AdavoWorkspace (talkcontribs)

No I did not get an independent editor to write my user page (note I don't have a "wikipedia page"), which is separate from article space. User pages are were the editor tells about themselves in relation to editing wikipedia, not where companies post about themselves, although neither is article space. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia which has articles written by independent editors which summarise independent reliable sources. Lavalizard101 (talk) 14:21, 27 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Copyright, notability and conflict of interest

edit

You and your boss(es) seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of what Wikipedia is and how it is used. Hopefully this will clear up your misconceptions.

Regarding accounts: Wikipedia accounts are for individual editors only. They are not allowed to represent companies, organizations, or other groups of people. Therefore the name must reflect individual use and not imply shared use. Your proposed new username would be acceptable.

Continuing with that theme, userpages (those that begin with "User:") are pages that can be personalized for the individual editor operating the account. Although a lot of freedom is given in personalizing userpages, they have to stay within the userpage guidelines. They are not articles and should not be written as such.

Wikipedia articles are about topics that are deemed notable - that is, of interest to the world at large and over a period of time. We consider evidence from sources that are both reliable and independent of the article's subject to gauge this interest. In the case of companies, there are more refined notability criteria for companies. Articles must cite these sources to provide the required verification of the content. The content must also be written from a plainly factual and neutral point of view.

Sources that are affiliated with the subject are generally not considered reliable. Primary sources such as a company's website can be used to provide basic facts and figures, but cannot on their own establish a company as notable (mere existence does not equal notable). Self-published sources such as press releases, social media, and interviews with company personnel are also disqualified as sources because they lack the required independence and neutrality.

You cannot post copyrighted material on Wikipedia - even if you are the copyright holder or have the copyright holder's permission - unless the material has been released for use by the verified copyright owner into the public domain or under a license compatible with Wikipedia. These licenses allow anyone — not just Wikipedia — to share, distribute, transmit, and adapt your work, free of charge and in perpetuity, provided that you are attributed as the author. Also, because some derivative works may be commercial, we cannot accept materials that are licensed only for educational use or even for general non-commercial use. Releasing the material is both permanent and irrevocable.

Individuals who write about topics where they have a personal or professional connection have a conflict of interest (COI). While COI editors are not prohibited from contributing, it is a difficult position to be in. COI editors are often incapable of recognizing when their contributions are promotional in nature, even if they don't believe them to be. COI editors have difficulty writing from the required neutral point of view, sourcing their edits to only independent sources, and not including unpublished personal knowledge or experience. As well, employees of a company or their paid representatives must understand and comply with the mandatory paid editing disclosure policy.

Even if your company is, or becomes, notable enough for inclusion with an article, the company will have no right of ownership or editorial control over the article's content. Any Wikipedia editor can edit any article at any time - we assume good faith of other editors unless proven otherwise. Unless it's a clear-cut case of vandalism or libellous material, content disputes should be discussed on the article's talk page in an effort to reach consensus. If that fails to resolve the disagreement, further dispute resolution measures can be utilized.

In conclusion, if your task was to write a Wikipedia article about your company according to what your bosses directed you to write, then its failure was guaranteed. We don't allow companies to use Wikipedia to publicize their existence or use it as a marketing tool. Even with a new username, it is highly unlikely that you will be unblocked if your intent is to write about your own company. There are many alternative outlets available that allow this type of writing. On the other hand, if you want to be an individual contributor, editing topic areas that are outside of your conflict of interest, then there is a better chance that you will be unblocked. Best of luck. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 15:55, 27 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • Note that you only need one active, open unblock request at a time. Subsequent comments should be standard, unformatted comments. I would suggest that you show your superiors this page, to help them understand the same things you must understand. 331dot (talk) 19:22, 27 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
