Igor Korolev
Please stop reverting to incorrect information. True, he did obtain Canadian citizenship, but that wasn't until 2000 or 2001. He never played played for Canada, only for USSR/Russia. Just for that fact alone, he should be referred as to Soviet/Russian. It's like calling Jim Belushi an Albanian just because his ancestors were from that country and he had an honourary Albanian citizenship. Norum 07:23, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Senators new jersey
I don't know if you've seen this video already but it's really rather amazing, I think. I'm sure you must agree! Jmj713 (talk) 21:18, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
- I was at the unveiling today. It was a free open practice. I had pre-ordered a jersey for my son. It was a nice package. A jersey, toque, scarf and two tickets to an upcoming game for $129. The price went up today to 149. Sigh. It's such an important moneymaker, though, for the team and the players. The 'O' is huge on the jerseys. I like it quite a bit. ʘ alaney2k ʘ (talk) 04:06, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
- I really liked the historical portion of that video where they show the actual original Senators sweaters. There should maybe be a section about it at the 2011–12 Ottawa Senators season article. Jmj713 (talk) 16:42, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Hello! The "Rebuilding the team" section of the 2011–12 Lokomotiv Yaroslavl season article states that "Its participation in the playoffs will be dependent on its winning percentage compared to other teams at the end of the season." Does this mean that they are not necessarily guaranteed a playoff spot? Please clarify. Thanks in advance, HeyMid (contribs) 11:03, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
- Could you please respond? Thanks in advance, HeyMid (contribs) 19:02, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
- (Sorry. There was a separate page update, so I missed noticing your change.) That's what I read at RT. That Lokomotiv's win percentage will determine if they qualify for the MHL playoffs. I think I cited that in the article. ʘ alaney2k ʘ (talk) 19:07, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

1939 Rangers/Bruins
I see you're shaping up the NHL season articles, and I recalled starting work on the 1939 playoffs. I was really interested in the Rangers/Bruins series that year, because that was the first time in history that a team forced a Gave seven after being down 0-3. Also, Boston's Mel Hill scored a record three OT goals that series. I'm sure you know this. I was just wondering if a 1939 playoffs article should be made, and also if there are any good reading materials regarding that series in particular you may be aware of, or the playoffs in general. Also, I really like this picture here on eBay, and I think it would make a great addition to that article, but I'm not sure how to properly source it. Jmj713 (talk) 20:45, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
- Tough call. The original image is definitely public domain due to its age, but the source comes from someone selling the image hard copy, so their copy is definitely not pd. I would contact one of the editors that administer the deletion requests of images here on wikipedia. They ought to be able to give some guidance as it could be an impact on the ebay seller's business. If I were to guess, it could be installed on wikipedia, but not the commons. ʘ alaney2k ʘ (talk) 21:47, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
- Any way you could lend a hand in that, time allowing? I'm not too well versed in all the Wikipedia inner-workings type things, just plain editing. Jmj713 (talk) 22:56, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Commensurability of CPIs
Did you check to ensure that Bank of Canada and Statistics Canada use identical data collection methods and methodologies for monthly CPIs? If so, then an 11 month average is provisionally acceptable, if not, I'd suggest self-reverting on grounds of OR. Fifelfoo (talk) 04:49, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

HHOF dates
I noticed that myself when I was writing the Art Ross article. All the newspapers of the time kept saying he was inducted in 1949, which goes against everything from today. I even emailed the HHOF and got a reply from Phil Pritchard. He gave a really confusing answer that essentially said they were inducted into the International Hockey Hall of Fame, and when the HHOF was made in 1960 they backdated the inductions of those 12 players. It didn't make much sense, so I just left it as it was and kept the 1945 date. Good to see that someone else was willing to further press the HHOF about the issue and get a proper resolution to it all. Kaiser matias (talk) 00:07, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
- Phil's busy taking care of the Stanley Cup. :-) What he said was true though, they just accepted all of the IHHOF inductions. Really for all those inductions before 1960, we should note that they were made by the IIHOF, not the HHOF. ʘ alaney2k ʘ (talk) 00:12, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi. When you recently edited 1917–18 NHL season, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Joe Malone (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). 1938 Euro tour
Hey, I know I asked you in the past about 1938 Detroit Red Wings – Montreal Canadiens European tour but I was just thinking about this article again, and wanting to do the 1959 tour article one of these days, but in all my research I wasn't able to find any roster tables or final stats or anything of the sort. I know you do great research and have rare literature, so I was just wondering if you could add a roster/stats table, just GP, G, A, stuff like that. If it's even possible, that is. Jmj713 (talk) 20:03, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the thoughts. I think that some other SIHR members might have the details. I'll ask them. ʘ alaney2k ʘ (talk) 00:50, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
Anaheim
They are not mathematically eliminated yet as they can still tie for 8th (based on research; see Talk:2011–12 NHL season); they can (likely will not, but can) still get 87 points and the other teams in 7th and below could all lose them all (with exception of an upcoming Wednesday matchup between two of them which one must win, and I haven't looked for others for simplicity). I have removed your elimination of Anaheim thus. Another editor has explained this before you marked them eliminated (someone else marked them too). CycloneGU (talk) 18:59, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
- That looks right. Glad it's resolved. ʘ alaney2k ʘ (talk) 23:29, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

1886
I remember we discussed this a while back, but I just added some more info for the 1886 Burlington carnival, and the source link I used for the rosters discusses games played by Montreal and the Crystals around the same time. This prompted me again to browse through Google News for the time period, once again in vain. Seems like what newspapers there are for early 1886, they're mostly a jumbled mess. But hockey was still apparently being played, despite the smallpox, and we don't really have any info, which is unfortunate. I'm really curious what was happening then. There really should be an article on the early history of ice hockey with year by year accounts, up to the foundation of the AHAC, since that's when our AHAC season articles begin. Jmj713 (talk) 18:00, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
- I know that some SIHR members are working on a book about early ice hockey. I think it should cover this period. They live in the Montreal area, and must have access to microfilm of old newspapers, plus archives, etc. Montreal would be where the information is. I'm in Toronto. ʘ alaney2k ʘ (talk) 12:01, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
- Interesting news about the book. Would this be available from Amazon and the like? I'd love to buy a copy. I have some other books on early hockey like Win, Wrangle, or Tie and Putting the Roof on Winter, which are excellent, but there doesn't seem to be a book that focuses entirely on the early history of hockey. Vezina Trophy
I carefully sourced every line in my last edit of the article and you reverse it because it contradicts with a single newspaper article you found? An article contradicted by multiple other articles and books?
I was shocked to see that the Wikipedia Vezina article indicated that the sets criteria changed in 1946 - I have read numerous articles on the subject from the 1930s that indicate the Trophy was awarded exactly like the HHOF says it was. I provided the cites in my edits
Daemonw (talk) 18:17, 22 June 2012 (UTC)daemonw
- It did change in 1946. The NHL clarified that the trophy would go to the team who played the most for the team with the lowest GAA. That's certainly not controversial. Your own edits point out that it was variously referred to as most valuable and to lowest GAA for the -goaltender- before that. All of the facts are there. ʘ alaney2k ʘ (talk) 18:24, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
Penguins trades/signings
I reverted your edits as per the disscussion here, the general feeling was that any transactions after the Cup Finals should be listed in the next team season. Your own thoughts were in the same direction. All transactions I reverted occured before the awarding of the Stanley Cup. I would be more than happy to discuss different opinions about when the season actually starts further on the discussion page for the wikiproject as I personally feel the new season should not start until the first pick of the next year's draft. -♣ B2project ♣ 03:56, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

Looking for assistance
Hi, I hope you don't mind me asking you for some assistance outside our regular hockey work. I know this would be outside your normal editing, and probably outside your interests even, but as you have access to HighBeam, I was hoping you could pull some articles for me on the background of Stephen King's much-publicized (though now mostly inaccessible) exit from his publisher Viking to sign with Simon & Schuster (Scribner) during 1996–97, prior to his 1998 novel Bag of Bones. I started a very bare-bones (pun intended) Background section there, and you can see some of the sources I've been able to find, but most articles I seem to be finding cover just the initial deal or as part of the novel's review. What I'd really like to access is that 1996–97 time period between Viking and S&S. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Jmj713 (talk) 18:47, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
- One good article, it seems, would be this one, as it appears to be a detailed overview. Jmj713 (talk) 20:59, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
- That one is not on Highbeam. I might be able to access it from your link through my library. I'm trying to figure that out. I did find an article in Highbeam from the Boston Globe, 1997. It's more of an opinion piece, though. But how would I forward that to you? ʘ alaney2k ʘ (talk) 15:08, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- Hi, sorry didn't notice you replied. Yes, anything you could find would be nice, especially if it's more than a fluff piece, but hopefully more detailed. But I guess you can't simply give me a link, so maybe you could add any pertinent info yourself? Unless the subject doesn't interest you at all, in which case I think whatever I have in the article already should be enough for an overview. Jmj713 (talk) 02:46, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

- erm, that article is currently a GA. Were you intending to request Canada Cup by itself rather than the 1981 event? Resolute 23:19, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks. Actually, pointing out the 81 Cup, I see a nice format for game summaries I think might be an improvement for the Summit Series article. I'll take a look and see where I can pitch in on the Canada Cup series, after I get the Summit Series finished off with cites and content. I'd like to get it to GA if I can. Summit Series
Not sure what your looking for in terms or refenceing the Clarke slash braking Kharlamov's ankle in the Summit Series. I din't find anything that when into great detail about the ankle being broken but I found several references that state it did.
Here a couple of books from a Google books search, though neither of them is specifically on the series.
http://books.google.com/books?id=N9S5cptJZ30C&pg=PA253&lpg=PA253&dq=bobby+clarke+summit+series+slash+Kharlamov+broken&source=bl&ots=pNYsyxNFQu&sig=CtDLHWOQlMJb86R7x6ZDs5Tkf-I&hl=en&sa=X&ei=jgEgUO-wLOO36wHAwYDgBw&ved=0CEEQ6AEwAg#v=onepage&q=bobby%20clarke%20summit%20series%20slash%20Kharlamov%20broken&f=false
http://books.google.com/books?id=XuaVtitvo2cC&pg=PA95&lpg=PA95&dq=bobby+clarke+summit+series+slash+Kharlamov+broken&source=bl&ots=YzHG0t-Kwd&sig=CLhvCn9pLM-aJ0tXTsqCKn-d_0c&hl=en&sa=X&ei=jgEgUO-wLOO36wHAwYDgBw&ved=0CDYQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=bobby%20clarke%20summit%20series%20slash%20Kharlamov%20broken&f=false
I also found some newspaper articles mentioning it though high beam (don't know if you have access so I copied the quotes about it from the aticles), but again stating it in hind sight years later
Winnipeg Free Press: http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P3-1556751071.html - "Clarke slashed just about anyone he ever played against but his most well-known work came in the 1972 Summit Series when he gave Valeri Kharlamov a two-hander that broke the Russian's ankle."
Rocky Mountain News (Denver, CO): http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-67614911.html - "Clarke was one of the greatest and most vicious players ever to play the game. In the 1972 Summit Series, he intentionally broke Russian star Valeri Kharlamov's ankle with a horrible two-handed slash. "
The Boston Herald: http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-91894504.html - " Paul Henderson, who scored the game-winning goal with 34 seconds left in the final game of the series, recently took shots at former linemate Bobby Clarke for the latter's slash on Valeri Kharlamov in Game 6 that broke the Russian's ankle.
Henderson said it was not only unsportsmanlike, but typical of the way the former Flyer played and the team he's put together in Philadelphia as general manager. "
AP Online: http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P1-114987798.html - "He also is remembered as the victim of Canadian player Bobby Clarke's slash that broke the speedy Soviet star's ankle in the 1972 Summit Series."
I know I have a book that talks about the Summit Series so I'll have to look to see if it says anything in there but I hope this helps. Cheers--Mo Rock...Monstrous (leech44) 18:03, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
Yes it does - I sourced it properly and it's also linked on google books if you search the page reference. "And when Bobby Clarke gave a two-handed slash to the Soviets Valeri Kharlamov in the 1972 Summit Series that pitted Canada against Russia, was that intentional injury cheating—or the spoils of war?" - HonestopL 22:16, 6 August 2012 (UTC)

Hey Alaney2k, a new user made a bold page move without concesnsus or any discussion whatsoever at the Battle of Ontario page. Nice catch. I can't believe I never noticed that there were three articles for this one guy. I watch North Western Ontario players pretty closely, especially ones from Thunder Bay. Not overly surprised that Patken created that many though, he usually just creates from databases and I have noticed him create doubles a few times. -DJSasso (talk) 17:14, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

Godzilla poster
Since you uploaded a new poster, I removed the old one from the article. Not as part of my continuing deletionist rampage, but because we really can't justify two posters for an unreleased movie, when there is only one other poster for the 29 released films. Maybe you can just keep the old poster instead, it's certainly more interesting, the new one is basically just a headline. Barsoomian (talk) 04:41, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
- I will abide. I'll save it for the User:Alaney2k/Godzilla (2014 film) article. I think there is a case (arguably) under the guidelines for minimal use. I may have to download, and re-upload it. ʘ alaney2k ʘ (talk) 15:19, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I thoroughly enjoyed this article, thank you. I am interested to know the full names of the the players who took part in this game, do you know where I can find as I have had no luck searching on the web? Thanks again, Parsica (talk) 17:13, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
NHL team roster templates & NHL player infoboxes
It would be productive if you got a consensus for the changes you prefer. GoodDay (talk) 18:08, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
- We disagree. If we use East Germany, then Latvia or Russia should be acceptable. If we used German DR or FR Germany, then Russia SFSR would make sense. ʘ alaney2k ʘ (talk) 18:12, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
- We have never used the sub-nationial jurisdictions on roster templates except for Canada and US. There has never been consensus to extend it beyond Canada and the US. I think that is what he meant. -DJSasso (talk) 18:14, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
- I can read. This is better for the reader. ʘ alaney2k ʘ (talk) 18:16, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
- Well your response to him had nothing to do with what he was talking about. So it didn't appear that you understood him. Since German DR or FR Germany / East Germany and West Germany is a completely different discussion than whether to include sub-national divisions or not. -DJSasso (talk) 18:18, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

- You'll need a consensus for your changes on the infoboxes and the team roster templates, before implimenting them. Unilateral changes will only create confusion. We haven't agreed yet on how to present non-Canadian & non-American born players & should iron that out. GoodDay (talk) 18:21, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

I'd recommend you divide your proposal into 2 proposals. 1) A proposal for the NHL team roster templates, which concerns 'only' the WP:HOCKEY and 2) a proposal for NHL player bio infoboxes, which concerns WP:HOCKEY, WP:BIOG & WP:BLP. GoodDay (talk) 23:12, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
As you can see at WP:HOCKEY, there's 2 editors determined to avoid using Soviet Union or USSR as Komarov's birthplace. GoodDay (talk) 00:43, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
- It's a bit of a grey area. Surprised it has not been resolved sooner. ʘ alaney2k ʘ (talk) 04:06, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
- It's bad enough, that Nug & Jaan are determined to push their PoV at only Leo Komarov. Afterall, they're other Soviet-born NHL bios articles from the Baltic area. GoodDay (talk) 20:31, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
I can't see why Narva, Soviet Union (now Estonia) would be a problem. :) GoodDay (talk) 09:01, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- We'll see. I think it will. Estonia is a nation under most definitions of the word. If you have any experience with Eastern Europeans, especially the expats, the time under the USSR was much despised. Ukrainians, Czechs, baltics. I'd go for the form I had put it in to be more sympathetic. Rather than the form you prefer. ʘ alaney2k ʘ (talk) 13:34, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

- That's big of you. Thanks for apologizing. If it matters, you're forgiven. Happens to everyone. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I feel like I've been getting into the middle of arguments here on Wikipedia. There doesn't seem to be much room in the middle here on Wikipedia. I don't know if it is the semi-anonymous nature of the internet or what. But it does not bring out the best in people, I don't think. (People following other person's contrib trail, monitoring their talk pages ... and on ) Maybe we need to reward people more for proposing solutions, instead of spouting rules or rigid viewpoints. - I agree that some editing experiences here on Wikipedia can be difficult. I have learned most quickly when I have been opposed and criticized mercilessly. :) But, I have not enjoyed such treatment. Lately, I have been posting my (suggested) edits on an article's talk page and have also focused on developing sources, again on the talk page. If I find a few middle of roaders who like to work and not lord it over others and then we work together on an article, the editing is quite enjoyable. I will try to stay out of projects or talk pages as much as possible for the next while. Alaney2k (talk) 23:28, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

- Welcome. Hi Alaney, I have noted your recent edits on the Conservation Authorities Act article. Your involvement is appreciated. DonaldRichardSands (talk) 22:53, 24 February 2013 (UTC)
- Also, I have looked over your recent edits on the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority and realized that I added one small edit in the middle of your edits. Again, I have an interest in these conservation articles and appreciate your work. DonaldRichardSands (talk) 00:02, 25 February 2013 (UTC)

Dziurzynski knockout
You added some content about this. By my count at least three users (I was one of the other anon accounts and didn't even see the previous edits until now, there's you, and there's at least one other anon) have added this independently. However, each time the same Ottawa Senators fan policing the page has reverted. Please refer to the talk page and if you are so inclined support the addition of this information. 75.103.11.162 (talk) 22:32, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
Don River
Hi, noticed your edits on the Don River article. Very good so far but I just corrected the extent of flooding on the Don during Hurricane Hazel. The extent of the flooding you quoted, ie. east to Leslie and west to Bay (prior to construction of the FPL berm on the West Don Lands) was actually the area of the regulatory floodplain. This floodplain was theorized from water flow models that projected the extent of flooding as if the amount of water that fell on the Humber had hit the Don instead. In reality substantially less water fell on the Don during Hazel. This caused some flooding but not so much that it impacted people outside the valley proper. Cheers, Atrian (talk) 09:10, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- I did not put in the text for the flooding. Someone else did. Alaney2k (talk) 16:09, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for April 13
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Campbell River (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

I came across the discussion about Eurohockey.net that you commented on, which I missed out on. I re-opened it here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard#Reviving_Eurohockey.net_discussion
. . . because I have some information about the site--namely that it's inactive. I think that's evident from visiting it and seeing that the latest updates were in March 2011. I know the creators of the site and they no longer have anything to do with it. They now operate Eurohockey.com, its successor site, which I mention in the re-opened discussion. Just thought I'd let you know. Cheers. Djob (talk) 16:40, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

Did you know that your talk page archives index doesn't seem to work anymore. It seems that Legobot did an update last year that has deleted them all and they don't seem to be accessible from your index page any longer. Unless I'm missing something. Canterbury Tail talk 01:05, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
your opinionn please...
In this section of Talk:Rob Ford I voiced my concerns over RedPenOfDoom excising this passage twice.
You moved the paragraph on his "orientals" comment to the section on Ford's career as a councilor. Do you have any objection to me adding that passage RedPenOfDom kept excising back to that paragraph, at the spot you relocated it to?
Thanks! Geo Swan (talk) 18:12, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
- Honestly, I have not followed that. IMO, it remains controversial, but I'm unaware of any rebroadcast. I think that, unless you have a cite to go with the sentence, that RedPen can challenge the sentence under Wiki policy. I do disagree with RedPen, but you do need a cite. I'll do some research. Alaney2k (talk) 18:58, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
- The passage RedPen excised had two references. It had the very funny article from Slate magazine that compared Ford with Diamond Joe Quimby -- which explicitly quoted the "oriental" comment. When I looked for coverage of the Jon Stewart segment I found several, including the Globe and Mail. I chose the article from The Torontoist over more well-known publications because their video clip was unedited -- the whole 6 and a half minutes that The Daily Show broadcast. The "orientals" portion of the video clip starts at about the 49 second mark.
- Thanks.
- If you have time, I'd be grateful for your opinion on my advice over RedPen's routine practice of making controversial edits that are explained solely in his or her edit summaries. I truly see instances of this practice as a trigger to edit warring.

In fact, the public servant Ford most closely resembles is the fictional mayor from The Simpsons, Diamond Joe Quimby. Both men are heavyset. Both are often at odds with constituents, colleagues, and the press. And both are prone to saying outrageous things in public.

American late-night hosts who first discovered Rob Ford as a result of some of his more innocent blunders are falling in love with Toronto all over again thanks to the latest allegations against our mayor. Last night, both the The Daily Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live had lengthy segments about Ford, and about the video that supposedly shows him smoking crack.

On The Daily Show, Stewart devoted more than eight minutes of air time to Ford and the latest controversy, including a highlight reel showing Ford falling while attempting to throw a football, referencing how "Oriental people work like dogs" during a speech at council chambers, and howling in pain after walking face first into a news camera.

Exemplary work
I am going to repeat myself -- you did exemplary work on the Rob Ford article. And it was admirable that you kept your cool in the face of some nasty implied criticism. Congratulations! Geo Swan (talk) 19:15, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks. It's always the hot heads who want to do the least on an article. Y'know? It's not helpful to simply complain. I've not seen May do any useful editing, but sure can add to the talk page... already time to start a third archive page. Alaney2k (talk) 19:24, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the hard work you have put into the article Alaney2k, and over a long period of time as well. There's a very minor issue (compared to the rest of what's going on) regarding the capitalization of Deco Labels – MOS:TM is clear that we follow standard capitalization even if it goes against the trademark owner's preference; so we don't write TIME for Time magazine, or REALTOR for realtor etc. You cite the company's website but even there, if you check the "About us" section they do not write it in all caps in running text. Thanks again, Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 23:04, 4 June 2013 (UTC)
- Ok, I see that now. But I find the wording a bit confusing: "as long as this is a style already in use, rather than inventing a new one" Alaney2k (talk) 00:07, 5 June 2013 (UTC)
- That is a bit confusingly worded; you're right. It means "already in use" in reliable sources, hence my comment in my edit summary that newspapers I've checked write it as "Deco". Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 00:12, 5 June 2013 (UTC)
