Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Alexismeshi. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Joseph Meshi, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Wikishovel (talk) 20:18, 4 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

We have relevant pictures and documents to contribute. Alexismeshi (talk) 20:22, 4 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I understand. However, I am unable to propose changes-I have tried-because I continue to be blocked. This block is incorrect because it was made under the assumption that I am a paid advertiser. I am not a paid advertiser.
Could an administrator please unblock me so I can propose changes as mentioned above? Thank you. Alexismeshi (talk) 15:54, 14 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Your account has been blocked indefinitely for advertising or promotion and violating the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use. This is because you have been making promotional edits to topics in which you have a financial stake, yet you have failed to adhere to the mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a form of conflict of interest (COI) editing which involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is strictly prohibited. Using this site for advertising or promotion is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia.

If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, please read our guide to appealing blocks to understand more about unblock requests, and then add the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the end of your user talk page. For that request to be considered, you must:

  • Confirm that you have read and understand the Terms of Use and paid editing disclosure requirements.
  • State clearly how you are being compensated for your edits, and describe any affiliation or conflict of interest you might have with the subjects you have written about.
  • Describe how you intend to edit such topics in the future.

Bbb23 The Joseph Meshi article this user edited indicates that Alexis Meshi is Joseph's daughter; maybe this is just COI editing instead of paid editing? 331dot (talk) 07:32, 5 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

@331dot: The user's COI has never been declared. Even assuming no money changes hands, the user's sole interest is promoting the clock, her father, and her father's partner (Ponsor). The very first edit the user made back in 2014 was to add Meshi and Ponsor to the clock article with bold formatting, patent numbers, and zero sources. Joseph's article has precisely one source and yet is in article form, even though it should be in draft. The user has been asked about this, and her answers are mostly unresponsive and unhelpful. I don't see how she is an asset to the project.--Bbb23 (talk) 12:19, 5 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
If the point of Wikipedia is to provide relevant information to the public-then all of the information I happen to be providing is actually very relevant. In terms of sourcing information-this has been done with the patent information. I thought it would be helpful to have pictures of the actual chess clocks-for chess enthusiasts to see. Also brochures information about the digital chess clocks that were patented, produced and sold in the 1970's. My hope is that people will find this interesting and helpful. Of course I also want to document Joseph Meshi's accomplishments as well. They are relevant to the history of chess. Thank you. I invite anyone that wishes to help me with the proper formatting and sourcing that Wikipedia needs. And I would appreciate being unblocked-this is not paid editing. It's also not a conflict of interest-in providing documents and history about these chess clocks to the general public. Thank you. Alexismeshi (talk) 15:34, 5 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

    {{unblock|reason=I understand a bit better about how to create a draft with references and sources and request for the draft to be published. I didn't understand the process before. When you feel it is time, could you please unblock me so I can edit the draft and then submit for approval. Thank you. ~~~~}}
    Alexismeshi (talk) 02:17, 7 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
    Just to clarify Bbb23: 1) My edits are not paid advertising-you blocked me under this assumption-it is not correct. Please unblock me.
    2) I'm not attempting to advertise the chess clocks for sale-the brochures I uploaded are directly from my father's MBA Thesis and were used in the 1970's for advertising.
    3) I was trying to correct the article on chess clocks which has incorrect information about who invented the first digital chess clock. For example, there is no citation/link for someone named Bruce Cheney-someone just edited the page with no evidence/reference/citation/resource-it is commonly accepted that the person who files the patent is the inventor. Cheney does not have a patent for a digital chess clock. The page has false information and should be corrected.
    Also, Bobby Fischer's chess clock patent filed in 1988 cites my father's first patent for the chess clock-Micromate-80 but not the second patent for the Micromate-180 in which he describes the timing method that he called "Accumulation".
    Bobby Fischer claimed the timing method as his own. I would greatly appreciate being unblocked-and/or someone editing the chess clock page accurately. Again, I have plenty of information about this chess clock that other's may not have (though I believe the Smithsonian has one of the chess clocks). I was attempting to correct the error's on the chess clock wikipedia page and share this additional information.
    It may be a COI with me being his daughter-but I may be the only person that has information needed to update this page accurately-I also have the interest in doing so.
    Again, I am not being paid to do this. I am not trying to sell any products. My goal is to provide accurate information (which is public-via patents and published thesis).
    I'm unclear as to why I continued to be blocked. I would ask that one of the administrators unblock me. Thank you. Alexismeshi (talk) 15:31, 14 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
    You are blocked because no one has reviewed your request yet. There are a limited number of administrators, and no one is required to review these requests. Understandably, this isn't an area many are interested in due to its confrontational/judgemental nature. 331dot (talk) 18:21, 14 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
    @Bbb23
    What is your name and contact information please? Alexismeshi (talk) 18:06, 14 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
    @Bbb23
    I need your name and contact information for a small claims lawsuit I will be filing against you. I am also asking you for $10,000 for the emotional distress you have caused in this matter. I need to formally ask you for this prior to suing you in court. I will also work on obtaining this information through court order via Wikimedia LLC and Wikimedia Foundation. I have also contacted the legal department @ [email protected] for your actual name and contact information as well.
    If all else fails please accept your subpoena to attend court via post here directed to you at @Bbb23 Alexismeshi (talk) 18:18, 14 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
    Please see no legal threats. You cannot make legal threats on Wikipedia, nor edit if you have a legal action underway. We cannot stop you from undertaking legal action if you choose, but then you will remain blocked until your legal action is concluded. You can pursue your grievances in the courts or using Wikipedia processes, but not both simultaneously. 331dot (talk) 18:20, 14 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
    This is not a threat. This is a legal notification-which I have by right in California in the USA.
    You may have admin rights under Wikipedia/Media...but you absolutely have no right to silence or take away any legal rights I may have.
    Again, I ask @Bbb23 for $10,000 for emotional distress. If he fails to identify himself then I will post the subpoena here directed to him.
    Do not try to silence me here-there may be legal implications for trying to do so. Alexismeshi (talk) 18:26, 14 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • TPA revoked.--Bbb23 (talk) 18:27, 14 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your contributions to Joseph Meshi.
