MY QUESTIONS

edit

–––––– {{Help me}} can someone please give me an idea its seems like all the good topics to write about are taken. HISTORIAN (talk) 19:26, 4 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Unless you use the {{Help me}} template, posting to your own talk page is like talking to yourself. See this part of the guide I wrote for why.
You can use the instructions at User:SuggestBot/Requests to find pages you might want to edit.
As for writing a new article, you should probably familiarize yourself with how to edit articles first, but if you insist on jumping ahead to writing, the guide I wrote also has a recipe for articles that won't be rejected or deleted and I have a perpetual to-do for a topic on my user talk page. You could also dig around in Category:Stubs to look for articles that you'd be interested in expanding (which is just as good as writing new). Ian.thomson (talk) 22:28, 4 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Not Here

edit

Your history of edits shows no indication that you are here to help build the encyclopedia. See Wikipedia:Here to build an encyclopedia. Very, very few of your edits have been to articles. Your Sandbox is supposed to be a workspace to create content that will then be added to articles. It is not for you to create and maintain your own history content. WP:NOTHERE can lead to editors being blocked from editing Wikipedia. David notMD (talk) 00:19, 22 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi Andrewhistory, regarding what David notMD wrote above, the part of WP:NOTHERE that might currently apply to you is: "The user is only interested in editing their own user space...", and because the content of your user pages doesn't appear to be related to Wikipedia's purpose, the "Other content" section. You were also advised a couple of weeks ago at the Teahouse ([1]) that your efforts should be more directed to work on improving Wikipedia articles, and not primarily on your user page, but since then it still seems to be the only thing you've done.

It's important that you understand that Wikipedia is not a webhost for free personal web pages or blogs about your hobbies:

Wikipedians have individual user pages, but they should be used primarily to present information relevant to work on the encyclopedia. Limited autobiographical information is allowed, but user pages do not serve as personal webpages, blogs, or repositories for large amounts of material irrelevant to collaborating on Wikipedia. If you want to post your résumé or make a personal webpage, please use one of the many free providers on the Internet or any hosting included with your Internet service provider. The focus of user pages should not be social networking or amusement, but rather providing a foundation for effective collaboration. Humorous pages that refer to Wikipedia in some way may be created in an appropriate namespace. Personal web pages are often speedily deleted. Wikipedia articles use formal English and are not written in Internet posting style.

Please see also Wikipedia:User pages, especially Wikipedia:User pages § What may I not have in my user pages? - Writings, information, discussions, and activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals:

Extensive writings and material on topics having virtually no chance whatsoever of being directly useful to the project, its community, or an encyclopedia article. (For example in the latter case, because it is pure original research, is in complete disregard of reliable sources, or is clearly unencyclopedic for other clear reasons.)

The material currently in your sandbox, User:Andrewhistory/sandbox, which for some reason you've tried to redirect your user page User:Andrewhistory to, goes beyond what is normally acceptable on user pages, especially since you don't seem to be making other useful contributions to Wikipedia. It appears to be extensive writings that are not intended for inclusion in mainspace articles, but rather your own private web page of "did you know? facts" about history, mostly randomly forked from Wikipedia articles. See also WP:COPYARTICLE. It doesn't seem to be related to Wikipedia's purpose of collaboratively building an encyclopedia. The writing is generally unencyclopedic, and the citations are virtually all to Wikipedia articles, which are not reliable sources. You have also directly copied large parts of Wikipedia articles as quotations, this is also not generally compatible with the purpose of user pages, see WP:UP#COPIES.

I suggest that you copy whatever personal information about yourself you want to keep, including the userboxes, from your sandbox to your user page. Then delete all the rest of the content of the sandbox, or add {{Db-u1}} to the top of the page to have it deleted. After that, you are welcome to make positive contributions to Wikipedia, such as editing articles, fixing mistakes or vandalism, providing citations of reliable sources, participating in talk page discussions, etc.

If you think I've made a mistake about this, you can leave an explanation here, or ask for other opinions at the Teahouse or from an administrator. Thanks. --IamNotU (talk) 17:01, 22 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

WP:TLDR STAY AT HOME FOR THE NHS (talk) 19:04, 22 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I didn´t know, I have done eveything you said. I thought i was helping people by telling them small facts to search up if they were intrested.--HISTORIAN (talk) 16:41, 23 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
The only reason I did that is because i am having truble finding Articles to edit my suggest bot suggestions are about topics I know little or nothing about. I am welcome to help if anybody tells me what articles to edit.--HISTORIAN (talk) 16:45, 23 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for taking care of that. I do understand that you were trying to be helpful. Everyone makes mistakes, especially when you're new, so it's not really a problem. About which articles to edit, you could just pick any article you're interested in, maybe some of the ones you quoted before, and see if you can improve it in some way. I'd suggest starting with very small changes or fixes, and see how that goes. Don't be surprised if your edits get reverted, that happens all the time. Reading up on the core content policies and the manual of style can help. PS, I indented your reply above, you can do that yourself, please see WP:INDENT and WP:THREAD, thanks. --IamNotU (talk) 19:36, 23 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
