Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia

The Wikipedia Tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome! Proposed deletion of Craig Vincent

edit

The article Craig Vincent has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Username and Helpdesk inquiry

edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, the username you have chosen seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of a group, company or website.

There are two issues with this:

  1. You may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, you must exercise great caution when editing on topics related to your organization.
  2. Your account cannot represent a group of people. You may wish to create a new account with a username that represents only you. Alternatively, you may consider changing your username to avoid giving the impression that your personal account is being used for promotional purposes.

Regardless of whether you change your name or create a new account, you are not exempted from the guideline to avoid editing where you have a conflict of interest. For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you.

I also wanted to let you know that I have responded to your enquiry at the Help Desk. strdst_grl (call me Stardust) 11:42, 1 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Incidently, IMDB is not regarded as a reliable sources as Wikipedia defines them. Anyone can suggest updates to the site, and although the staff will do a quick check, this is only a minimal one, and not 100% accurate. -- PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 12:00, 1 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because your username, Angels&Artists, does not meet our username policy.

Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.

Please choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines. However, do not create a new account if you wish to credit your existing contributions to a new name through a username change. To request a username change:

  1. Add {{unblock-un|your new username here}} below. You should be able to edit this talk page even though you are blocked. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a list of names that have already been taken. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you feel that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. -- PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 11:58, 1 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Please note that changing your name does not mean that you can ignore the Conflict of interest guidelines -- PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 11:58, 1 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

Dear PhantomSteve, I am in NO way promoting a business or presenting ANY information that is FALSE regarding the subject - Craig Vincent. I have attempted to add "other" sources and references supporting the information as being correct, but I am NO computer programer and because of the complex and oftentimes convoluted instructions given to properly format this information, I confess that I am having difficulty figuring this whole thing out. The subject - Craig Vincent is in fact an actor and has numerous "verifiable" credits to his name. More so than some of the numerous 'Other' actors you have listed on your site. Why must this person be excluded from your site merely because you don't like the "Name" in which I have chosen to edit under? Angels&Artists IS NOT, and I repeat, IS NOT a company who's purpose is to exploit it's own personal gain nor exploit any information that is untrue or unverifiable and DOES fall under the appropriate guidelines that your company requires. I request that you re-consider un-blocking Angels&Artists and it's current IP Address so that I may further explore and contribute to the good of this online resource. Sincerely, Karen W

Decline reason:

Your userpage clearly states that you are a promotional agency. The additions you have made so far have been related to your organization, in violation of WP:COI. Please read below for more clarification. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 14:49, 1 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

As the blocking admin, I will leave it to another admin to review this (incidently, you forgot the closing }} on your unblock request, which I have now added), however I want to make a few comments:
  1. I have not blocked the current IP address that is used by Angels&Artists. I have no way of knowing what the IP address is - only CheckUsers can see that, and I am not one. If there is a block on the IP, this would need to be dealt with on that particular IP's talk page.
  2. No one is saying (as far as I can see) that the information you are adding is untrue. The question is about the information's verifiability. As I explained above, IMDB is not counted as a totally reliable source - and this appears to be the main source which you are using. You might want to read "reliable sources" and "independent sources". It might also be useful to read "Notability guidelines for entertainers", "Notability guidelines for biographies" and "General notability guidelines".
  3. The Craig Vincent article is not being considered for deltion because of your user name - it is being considered because he does not meet the notability criteria
  4. Your user name is unacceptable per Wikipedia's user name policy. The edits made by the account are not the reason for your block - the user name itself is. If you want your account to be unblocked so that you may request a name change, please read the instructions in the block notice I left above
I hope that this clarifies the situation -- PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 14:41, 1 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
There are two separate issues here. This username related block has nothing to do with the article Craig Vincent. If you create a username which meets the guidelines for the site, you can use that account to edit the article. The problem is that you clearly state here that Angels&Artists is a production company, and as such you cannot edit any articles under their name. It does not matter if you have no affiliation with the group at all - it is simply not allowed.
The issue of Craig Vincent is one I adressed on the help desk, but here is my message again if you did not receive it:
As mentioned on both the page in question and your talk page, all biographies of living people must have at least one reference, which you can learn how to add at Referencing for beginners. At the moment, Craig Vincent only links to one external website, and it does not do this in a referencing format, which would require <ref> and </ref> to be placed around the link. Therefore, it has been tagged as unreferenced.
You should also review the Criteria for Deletion before proceeding. In particular, consider that all articles must be notable within their field and verifiable - this requires the use of several reliable external sources, and IMDb is not considered reliable. You should also take care to preserve neutrality, and avoid self-promotion or advertising. Failing to meet these criteria will likely result in the article's deletion even if you meet the referencing requirement for biographies of living people.
Wikipedia has many policies and guidelines, but they are created to keep the encyclopedia reliable and unbiased. The biggest problem here seems to be conflict of interest, particularly if you are affiliated with Craig Vincent in any way, personally or professionally. If this is not the case, I apologise for this assumption, but the article must still comply with the website policies to avoid deletion.
If you need help understanding these policies, the help desk is always available, or you could consider the adoption programme for new users. You are also welcome to leave a message for me at my talk page, located at User talk:Strdst grl, and I will help you contribute productively to the encyclopedia. strdst_grl (call me Stardust) 14:50, 1 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
