Your GA nomination of Pied Cow Coffeehouse

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Pied Cow Coffeehouse you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria.   This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Gerald Waldo Luis -- Gerald Waldo Luis (talk) 07:21, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

Mapframe maps available in Infobox restaurant

You can now add automatic mapframe maps in Infobox restaurant by adding |mapframe=yes to the infobox.

I also found an easy way to get coordinates that might work for you. Pull up Google Maps and go to the location in question, then right-click on the map where you want the pin to be, and click on the coordinates that show up in the resulting menu. That will copy the coords to the clipboard. You can then paste them into the infobox; wrap them in the coord template and make sure to put a vertical bar (pipe) between the latitude and longitude. – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:33, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

Jonesey95, Thanks!, I will give this a try soon. ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:37, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
This Google Maps method is the one I default to, as I've found it the easiest. But FWIW, I was taught by another user at Special:Diff/964172047 that the Google coordinates are actually overprecise to the point of being slightly wrong. They described a more complicated but more accurate method of determining location coordinates here. Though I still mostly use Google for ease, I now round to the fourth place after the decimal to reduce the overprecision error. Armadillopteryx 04:05, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
Yes, I do that too, but while AB has created 1,000 times as much WP content as I have, AB has had a little trouble with techie stuff in the past, so I wanted to try to keep the instruction as concise and undaunting as possible. BTW, AB, if you can't get it to work, just add |mapframe=yes and then ping me as usual to add the coords. I've got nowhere to be. – Jonesey95 (talk) 05:48, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
@Jonesey95 and Armadillopteryx: How does this look?
I get slightly different coords with the Google method (45.5243, -122.6820). Comparing my coords to yours, they hit the same street corner, but they are across the street from each other. Google tells me that the coffee shop is on the south side of NW Davis Street, which matches my coords (yours are on the north side of the street). But you presumably know this location in person: if you zoom in on the mapframe in the infobox, does the marker hit the correct spot? Armadillopteryx 02:52, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
Armadillopteryx, You're correct. The marker is on the wrong side of the street. ---Another Believer (Talk) 03:51, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
Out of curiosity, how did you get your coords? I searched "136 Northwest 9th Avenue portland or", copied the coords from the URL in the address bar, and then rounded to the fourth place after the decimal. Armadillopteryx 03:55, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
Armadillopteryx, I searched "Fuller's Coffee Shop" at Google Map, right clicked on the marker, copied the coordinates to clipboard, then insert in the infobox. After rounding the fourth place, I surrounded the numbers with "coord" and the pipes. This did not work, so I copied the "type:landmark_region:US-OR|format=dms|display=inline,title" from Angkor I to see if that would work. ---Another Believer (Talk) 04:01, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
Got it. I'm not sure if you need all of those parameters or not. Ever since someone who knows a lot about coordinates added them to one of my venue articles, I've been copy–pasting this format into all the others, and it has always worked so far:
{{Coord|40.7254|-73.9834|type:landmark|display=inline,title}}
Armadillopteryx 04:07, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
Armadillopteryx, Ok, thanks, I've made this adjustment and also updated the coordinates by searching in Google Maps using the address instead of the business name. I will try to add these maps to other restaurant articles I've worked on. Thanks, both! ---Another Believer (Talk) 04:13, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

I suspect that you have a subscription to this. Is it working correctly now for you? = my subscription is not, but it has been up until a couple of days ago. I emailed Wiki-library about this, however have not heard back from anyone yet. Thanks for any input you can provide.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 14:52, 5 December 2020 (UTC)

Doug Coldwell, I do not have a subscription to Newspapers.com. Is there a particular reason you're asking? ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:58, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
My subscription stopped working properly 2 days ago. I think it is on there end, for whatever reason. I was looking for somebody else that has this subscription to see if they are having problems also - and when it started with the problems. I use news clips a lot for Did You Knows and Good Articles. I'm trying to figure out how to get it back working properly again.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 17:48, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
My newspapers.com subscription is working fine, FWIW. It says I have access through 14 Nov 2021. I got my subscription through https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/users/ – have you tried going to that site to see if it shows any problems with your access to newspapers.com? – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:40, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
@Jonesey95: Yes. It turned out my subscription had expired and I have asked for a renewal. It's in the works now. Thanks for reply.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 21:42, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

I just did a major upgrade to this article, that recently failed a Good Article review. Could you look it over to see if you think it now meets Good Article standards. You can copy edit accordingly, OR give me pointers to improve upon. If you happen to get involved in the article and like it perhaps you might be interested in becoming the new GA nominator. I'll be glad to answer most of the issues that come up with the new review, especially those related to referencing and sources. Each of us would get a GA credit then, you as the nominator and me as the creator of the article. Does that sound like something you might be interested in? --Doug Coldwell (talk) 20:54, 5 December 2020 (UTC)

Doug Coldwell, Thanks, but sorry, I tend to only nominate articles for GA status when I'm the primary author and familiar with the topic and my own research. You might seek help at WikiProject Companies or WikiProject Watches, or request a peer review. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:57, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
O.K. Thanks for leads.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 21:00, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
I have just done some additional improvements to the article. I have submitted it for peer review. Great ideas you suggested - thanks!--Doug Coldwell (talk) 13:27, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

Why have you re-added this article to the United States WikiProject? It should not be added by default just because West is from the country and if it was expanded during the US challenge, this should be somewhere on the talk page. --K. Peake 12:05, 13 December 2020 (UTC)

Oneupsmanship: This painting turned the friendly rivalry between Edward Redfield and Elmer Schofield into a feud. Schofield was a frequent houseguest at Redfield's farm, upstream from New Hope, Pennsylvania,
and the two would go out painting together, competing to capture the better view. Redfield served on the jury for the 1904 Annual Exhibition of the Carnegie Institute; at which, despite Redfield's opposition, Across the River was awarded the Gold Medal and $1,500 prize. It was not until a 1963 interview that the 93-year-old Redfield revealed the painting as the cause of the 40-year feud between them. Schofield may have painted it in England, but a blindsided Redfield knew that it was a view of the Delaware River, from his own front yard!
Thank you! Happy New Year, ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:00, 26 December 2020 (UTC)

Just for future reference

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that normally, the Current Event WikiProject is placed above other WikiProjects in the listed, due to the fact that it is removed about a week later. Since we don't interact with many articles (Non-COVID articles isn't more than like 10), the WikiProject has a higher priority on the article. Once the topic is no longer deemed a current event (Once it is fully out of the Portal's 7 day window) then the WikiProject banner is removed. Also thank you for all the hard edits you have done on 2020 Nashville bombing. Elijahandskip (talk) 23:51, 26 December 2020 (UTC)

Elijahandskip, Thanks for the note. I often sort WikiProject banners alphabetically but will try to keep this in mind. ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:07, 27 December 2020 (UTC)

Boxer Ramen

Hello:

The copy edit you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Boxer Ramen has been completed.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

I have a couple of suggestions. Since Wikipedia is not a travel guide, I would remove the operating hours. They cannot easily be updated and kept current. This would also take care of all the "as of 2016"s in the article, which immediately indicates it is out of date. I'm unsure of the usefulness of reviews from 2014 (or even 2016, for that matter); menus change, staff changes etc... You might want to think about that. Congratulations on securing the GA designation.

Happy Holidays! Stay safe.

Regards,

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Adam C. Johnson requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Be careful with WikiProject banner shell

Be careful with {{WPBS}}. When used with some project templates with some combinations of parameters, using {{WikiProject banner shell}} pushes the page over the "expansion depth" limit of 40. See Template:WikiProject banner shell#Limitations and bugs for details.

I have undone one of your two recent edits to Talk:116th Street–Columbia University station. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 23:42, 10 January 2021 (UTC)

Davidwr, I use 'Rater' and also manually add "WPBS" templates all the time. How am I supposed to know when to avoid using? ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:49, 10 January 2021 (UTC)
Just check after you do it to see if the expansion depth is exceeded. You can two it two ways: 1) view the source and search for "expansion depth", or 2) edit again and look at the parser profiling data. The expansion depth is listed there. If the Rater tool automatically adds {{WPBS}} perhaps the tool's maintainer can add tools to automatically check for this. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 00:08, 11 January 2021 (UTC)

About Draft:A GREAT PERSON, EXALTED IN SPIRIT - hmmm

Extended content

Hi Another Believer,

I have done a little research about this draft

This would appear to me to have all the hallmarks of a machine translation of (most probably in violation of copyright) a source in language other than English, probably Kazakh.

That said, it appears to be about "Dede Korkut" - which WP:REDIRECT-s to Book of Dede Korkut.

Places and people mentioned in the draft:

  • "Zharkent" - existing article Zharkent
  • "Oghuz state" - existing article Oghuz Khagan
  • the village "Orkendeu" - Orkendeu - no Wikipedia a article, but see [backlisted URL ww.maplandia.com/kazakhstan/dzhezkazgan/orkendeu/ www.maplandia.com/kazakhstan/dzhezkazgan/orkendeu]
  • "Ethnographer Abubakir Divaev" - there may well be an eminent (and possibly living person) Ethnographer of that name.

Do you think the draft still meets the WP:G1 speedy deletion criterion? In my opinion, no as of 12 Jan 2021. Maybe let's see what happens further on? Pete AU aka --Shirt58 (talk) 11:37, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

If the article is deleted and/or moved to draft, I'll help you recreate and/or develop it. Netherzone (talk) 18:29, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
Netherzone, Thanks! Sometimes I really wish editors would share their concerns on an article's talk page before going straight to AfD. What a waste of editors' time... ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:32, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
Another Believer, it truly is a waste of editor time. I am wondering if the nominator simply does not understand the significance. Also I noticed someone just mentioned CRYSTALBALL on the AfD, however I do not think this applies because it is clear that the statue currently exists and has been photographed and covered in various news media. It is the unveiling that does not yet exist, so CRYSTALBALL would only apply if the article subject was "Unveiling of the statue of RGB". It may be a waste of my time to argue this point, so I think I will just ride it out. Netherzone (talk) 19:00, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
Netherzone, Yeah, I've noticed some editors just drive by AfD discussions and vote delete or keep based on personal interests, preferences, or sourcing currently used in the article instead of assessing all possible sourcing. I also think deleting a page that's just going to be recreated a month later is ridiculous... but whatever, life goes on! Happy editing, ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:02, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

Brix Tavern

Extended content
Hi Another Believer; sadly I've just tagged the above article with the {{Advert}} template; I don't think it has enough critical content or background, there's little about the people who own and run it, nothing about its unique selling points, etc. I couldn't find out why it's notable. I also notice all of the references come from local media; there's nothing wrong with that but some national and international sources would give some more interest for readers, I think. As it stands, all the article tells me is Brix Tavern is a nice place, serves a range of nice, inexpensive foods and does some promotional events. Sorry. Baffle☿gab 08:59, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
Baffle gab1978, Well, I don't agree about the tag, but I've reviewed and kept many of your copy edits so thanks. I'm not sure if you want to share any concerns on the article's talk page or not, but other editors may see your tag addition as drive-by criticism unless they're made aware of your comments here. I will give some thought to how I can address your concerns. I don't feel any of the current text is promotional, as the tag suggests. Nor do I think any of the sources are inappropriate. Nor do I think any of the text is non-neutral. I believe the text is accurate and neutral based on reputable publications. Apparently the editor who reviewed my Good article nomination agreed. If you feel strongly about keeping the tag, you can share further thoughts, otherwise I understand if you have other priorities. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:43, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for your feedback, Another Believer. Well, I don't tag things just to cause embarrassment to people and I did leave an edit summary. I've copy-edited several restaurant articles and they've all had some interesting features; a particular style of food, interesting architecture, being managed by notable chefs, shaken up dining in their locales, have won major awards, etc. This article just says; "nice place, nice menu, nice food, good prices, holds events, bit of history, good reviews"; this is why I added the {{advert}} tag. Advertising comes in many forms—any text can be apparently neutral but biased though omitting negative and unflattering commentary. This is also why I'm surprised the reviewer waved the article straight though GAN. The venue appears to meet WP:GNG from local media coverage so {{notability}} would be unsuitable here. Now I have more time, I will try and find a more appropriate template. And yes, I'll happily link and copy this convo onto the article's talk page. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 20:27, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
Note: I've copied the above text over to the article's talk page so the conversation can continue there. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 20:36, 16 January 2021 (UTC)

Another Believer, thanks for the ping! Good time to sweep out of articles like the storming, which I've... gotten into a fight recently. Don't look it up tho, it's embarassing GeraldWL 15:58, 16 January 2021 (UTC)

Stone House

Thanks for the heads-up about the Stone House article. I like the direct quotes. Watch out for all that satanic graffiti! Finetooth (talk) 17:37, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

International note

FYI, you might be a notable Wikipedian "shining beacon lighting the way to a better future" (maybe not notable, but I'm really not sure)! You were mentioned in The Guardian. I noticed when I was building the "In the media" section of the upcoming edition of The Signpost. ☆ Bri (talk) 00:58, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

Bri, Bilorv put this on my radar in the barnstar above, but thanks for double checking. I was surprised to learn of this mention! ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:02, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
Bri, I was mentioned in this one as well, if you've not included in your Signpost summary. ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:05, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

Statue redirects

You should know better than most that a lot of famous people already have one or more statues of them. I just fixed 11 of your redirects (so far) of statues to articles that already exist, some of which you even created. The garden doesn't exist yet (and there's a decent chance it never does either) so it doesn't make sense to have redirects for each of the statues. The "(National Garden of American Heroes)" ones are fine (not that that's a search term), but the rest the point to something that doesn't exist and may be misleading aren't, whether or not the existing statue is notable. Reywas92Talk 02:07, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

Reywas92, Thanks for the note. I plan to do a round of appropriate redirecting and disambiguation page creation, in addition to the couple I've already created. ---Another Believer (Talk) 02:10, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

Reply tool

Completion rates for comments made with the Reply tool and full-page wikitext editing. Details and limitations are in this report.

The Reply tool is available at most other Wikipedias.

  • The Reply tool has been deployed as an opt-out preference to all editors at the Arabic, Czech, and Hungarian Wikipedias.
  • It is also available as a Beta Feature at almost all Wikipedias except for the English, Russian, and German-language Wikipedias. If it is not available at your wiki, you can request it by following these simple instructions.

Research notes:

  • As of January 2021, more than 3,500 editors have used the Reply tool to post about 70,000 comments.
  • There is preliminary data from the Arabic, Czech, and Hungarian Wikipedia on the Reply tool. Junior Contributors who use the Reply tool are more likely to publish the comments that they start writing than those who use full-page wikitext editing.[1]
  • The Editing and Parsing teams have significantly reduced the number of edits that affect other parts of the page. About 0.3% of edits did this during the last month.[2] Some of the remaining changes are automatic corrections for Special:LintErrors.
  •   A large A/B test will start soon.[3] This is part of the process to offer the Reply tool to everyone. During this test, half of all editors at 24 Wikipedias (not including the English Wikipedia) will have the Reply tool automatically enabled, and half will not. Editors at those Wikipeedias can still turn it on or off for their own accounts in Special:Preferences.

New discussion tool

Screenshot of version 1.0 of the New Discussion Tool prototype.

The new tool for starting new discussions (new sections) will join the Discussion tools in Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-betafeatures at the end of January. You can try the tool for yourself.[4] You can leave feedback in this thread or on the talk page.

Next: Notifications

During Talk pages consultation 2019, editors said that it should be easier to know about new activity in conversations they are interested in. The Notifications project is just beginning. What would help you become aware of new comments? What's working with the current system? Which pages at your wiki should the team look at? Please post your advice at mw:Talk:Talk pages project/Notifications.

Dropped Your Hand While Dancing

Hi there! I was looking through my watchlist and saw your addition of Dropped Your Hand While Dancing to the Taylor Swift template. Now, I'm not sure what your plan is, but personally, I don't believe there needs to be a separate article for this. No other compilation has it's own separate page, as previous ones have been grouped at Folklore_(Taylor_Swift_album)#Compilations. Since you were the creator of the article, I thought you should know what I thought. Thanks. TheCartoonEditor. talk to me? see what i've done 21:23, 24 January 2021 (UTC)

TheCartoonEditor, I've already redirected the page. :) ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:24, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
I think a similar track list update is needed at Evermore (Taylor Swift album), though. ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:27, 24 January 2021 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Cricket Cafe

The article Cricket Cafe you nominated as a good article has passed  ; see Talk:Cricket Cafe for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Music (2021 film) poster

Hi! I am a little confused about why the US theatrical poster uploaded by someone to the Music film page was removed? I'm not sure who else to ask so just thought I'd put it here. Hope that's okay! thanks Peterpie123rww (talk) 12:30, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

Peterpie123rww, Hello! I've been following development of the film and soundtrack articles. However, I've not been paying attention to how the posters have been added/removed over time. Your best bet is to start a discussion on the article's Talk page so editors can discusses which poster(s) to use. Keep in mind, copyrighted images can only be used under fair use. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:22, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
