Welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, including your edits to Republic of Ireland, but we cannot accept original research. Original research also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you. RashersTierney (talk) 14:01, 11 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Actually it wasn't original research. I assumed that the motto of the Republic of Ireland was general knowledge, since it appears on another Wikipedia page dedicated to national mottoes, and was thus confused that it wasn't included in the Repub of Ireland wikipedia page like those of other countries. If further proof is needed, you can look here: http://www.worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/europe/ireland/iesymbols.htm. Anthony Lynch (talk) 17:27, 11 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

The entry you refer to was added by an IP with this edit. It has been picked up by several Wikipedia mirrors since then, but has no basis in fact. It is a phrase from the national anthem, but is no more a national motto than any other phrase in the song, or indeed any other song. RashersTierney (talk) 20:15, 11 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
