DYK
Hi, could you review the updated DYK hook text? Link: Template:Did you know nominations/Solar storm of 2012. Best regards - Anonimski (talk) 13:47, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
Hello. I've just reverted your housekeeping deletion of the redirect at Postdoctoral researcher [1] since there are quite a few pages that link to it [2], which suddenly became redlinks when you deleted the redirect (including the link on my user page, which is how I noticed this). I think it's fine to keep as a redirect from an alternative name, since it is a fairly common phrase/position in academia. I hope that's OK. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 19:47, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, Postdoctoral research was supposed to be moved to that title. They apparently deleted the redirect page but didn't actually do the move, and I didn't notice. If you could re-delete the page and/or perform the move, I'd appreciate it. Antony–22 (talk⁄contribs) 22:32, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
- Whoops, sorry, I meant to leave that message to the deleting admin. Thanks for the explanation of what was happening: I've sorted out the page move, so the article is now at Postdoctoral researcher. Thanks! Mike Peel (talk) 18:29, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
DYK for United States Navy staff corps
On 24 February 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article United States Navy staff corps, which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that women are currently chiefs of the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer, Medical, Chaplain, Nurse, and Judge Advocate General's Corps—a majority of the eight Navy staff corps? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/United States Navy staff corps. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |
Robert Dirks
Thanks for noticing ... I hadn't been keeping track and have been busy with some other articles. If you can find those third-party sources please do; I have no idea where to look. I did find several obits which give a lot of information about his life—very interesting, he was born in Bangkok, to an expat American father and his Thai Chinese wife; then later moved back to Spokane, where he was valedictorian of his high school class. So I was sort of looking forward to writing this one. Daniel Case (talk) 19:25, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
- @Daniel Case: The obituaries are good sources about his life, but they unfortunately don't give much technical detail about his work. Feel free to start working on it in userspace or draft space, and I'll add more technical sources as I find them. Antony–22 (talk⁄contribs) 03:30, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
- I've started the article at Draft:Robert Dirks. Antony–22 (talk⁄contribs) 23:39, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
- Good work! I'll be filling the life details perhaps over the weekend, if not than shortly afterwards. Daniel Case (talk) 21:35, 6 March 2015 (UTC)
Turning STEM pipeline into a DYK
STEM pipeline would make a great DYK-- interested in expanding it? --Djembayz (talk) 03:32, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
- @Djembayz: Hmm, maybe. It's just long enough that a 5x expansion would require writing a pretty substantial article. We'd also need to decide how the subject matter is different than STEM field. Antony–22 (talk⁄contribs) 01:56, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
DYK for Warren Elliot Henry
On 5 March 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Warren Elliot Henry, which you recently nominated. The fact was ... that physicist Warren Elliot Henry learned quantum mechanics from Arthur Compton, nuclear theory from Wolfgang Pauli, and molecular spectra from Robert Millikan—and played tennis with Enrico Fermi? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Warren Elliot Henry. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Your GA nomination of Holliday junction
Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Holliday junction you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Sasata -- Sasata (talk) 18:00, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
Thomas W. Talley
I work mostly on minorities and mostly on Southern ones. I honestly enjoyed learning about Mr. Talley. I am getting almost 50% probability on close paraphrasing. While there may be limited ways to say he was born on a certain day or graduated in a certain year, I do not think this group of sentences lends itself to that limitation. I cannot edit and review the article. But that being said, I would suggest something along the lines of "Talley began gathering rural black folk songs later in his life. No prior black scholar had assembled a music volume when Macmillan released "Negro Folk Rhymes (Wise and Otherwise)" in 1922. Talley's 349 songs, the first compilation ever published of African American secular folksongs, were also the first collected from Tennessee." Obviously there are other ways you can edit it. I am sorry and do not mean to be a pain in your side. SusunW (talk) 21:42, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
- I'll give it another try tomorrow. Although, there's no reason you can't make minor edits as a reviewer; I often fix small problems myself when reviewing just because it's faster than waiting for the nominator. Antony–22 (talk⁄contribs) 02:47, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
#WikiTurgy UMD event rescheduled
Hi! Thank you so much for RSVP-ing yes for the #WikiTurgy UMD event that we were hoping to hold on Feb. 17th at the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library at the University of Maryland, College Park. Since our last attempt to host this meetup was snowed out, we've rescheduled it for Monday, March 30th from 10am-3pm. If you're available and still want to participate, we'd love to have you! We're clearing the RSVP section of the Wikipedia Meetup page, and you can let us know there if you're planning to attend. Thanks, and we hope to see you on the 30th! DYK(s) for Women's History Month
G'day! We just had an NIH Women's History Month Edit-a-Thon 2015, and Duckduckstop suggested I ping you for some DYK(s).
Nina Starr Braunwald performed the first successful artificial heart valve replacement - and she designed and made the valve.
Judith Vaitukaitis developed the first home pregnancy test.
Vivian Pinn was the first African-American woman to head a pathology department, and the first director of the NIH's Office of Research on Women's Health.
Those are some of particular interest - lots more new and improved pages at the project page as above. Fingers crossed! Hildabast (talk) 16:14, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
- @Antony-22: I forgot I was watching your page because of the Talley article. I just noticed that these 3 links are not on the Women's History adds for this month. Wikipedia:WikiWomen's History Month/2015/Outcomes could use any additional info you and @Duckduckstop: or @Hildabast: can give for new articles, DYKs, promotion to good articles etc. that have been created in the month of March. SusunW (talk) 17:23, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
- @SusunW: See the first message currently on my talk page for some other past and upcoming events this month. Each page should have an outcomes list that you can copy to the central Women's History Month list. There are more events listed in Template:ArtAndFeminism.
- @Hildabast: Those all look like good articles for DYK! It would actually be easier if you nominated them yourself; as an experienced DYKer I have to review another article every time I do a nomination, which you wouldn't have to do as a newcomer to the process (you get five nominations for free before you have to do reviews yourself). I'm happy to help deal with any fixes the reviewers ask for. Instructions are at Template talk:Did you know#To nominate an article, it's not a very hard process. Antony–22 (talk⁄contribs) 02:38, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
- @Antony-22: Jeemany, I just opened the first one and there a lot of articles. Will verify whether they are listed on the recap and if not start adding. I cannot open the link that started this post. Please feel free to encourage people to add their own items to the master list. ;) SusunW (talk) 02:58, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
Thank you so much @SusunW: and @Antony-22:! I'll get stuck into it. The shortlink for that page by the way is WP:NIH. Hildabast (talk) 11:16, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
- I got all the entries from the first three sessions input on the overview page and talk pages with shells created for each article. Did not get the photos from the NIH session yet. That was a very productive group! Fascinating women they added. @Hildabast: if you need help with DYK, ping me. I'll be glad to assist. But like Antony-22 says, you have 5 shots without a review being required. SusunW (talk) 13:26, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
@Hildabast: Just a heads up, there's a seven-day window for DYK nominations so these need to be nominated by tomorrow. If you're too busy to do it I'm sure I could split the nominations with SusunW. Antony–22 (talk⁄contribs) 22:45, 18 March 2015 (UTC)
- Like SusunW (talk) 23:29, 18 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks, again @SusunW: and @Antony-22:! I had a go - did 4: I think I did everything I was supposed to do, but not sure. I did the 3 I mentioned first, plus Nora Volkow (that was doubled, plus several photos). Hildabast (talk) 10:52, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- Looks like you did everything right! Antony–22 (talk⁄contribs) 17:22, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- Finally got all 50 of the photos from the NIH Edit-a-thon loaded and noticed another one happened this weekend, so will try to get those added too. SusunW (talk) 15:28, 22 March 2015 (UTC)
DYK for Shirley M. Malcom
On 17 March 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Shirley M. Malcom, which you recently nominated. The fact was ... that the lack of minorities and women in Shirley M. Malcom's college classes later inspired her to manage the National Science Foundation's Minority Institutions Science Improvement Program? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Shirley M. Malcom. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. On 23 March 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Angella D. Ferguson, which you recently nominated. The fact was ... that Angella D.
