Arbitration Committee Notice

edit

Dear Applesandapples, I wanted you to know that I also got a notice from User:Darkness Shines on my talk page that looks like yours (in history). You should know that DS placed that banner incorrectly and it makes him look like an administrator. He is not an administrator. Moreover, it looks as though he is from of Arbitration Committee. Again he is not nor has he ever been a member of Arbitration Committee. Like me, you may have been doing something innocent, but the banner states unfairly, "If you continue to misconduct yourself on pages relating to this topic." This is boilerplate language given to anyone who gets this template. It does not mean in any way that you did something wrong. Furthermore, although there is very little information about this banner, you may remove it from your page. Your name was also listed by DS on a noticeboard. In my case, I believe this is wrong because I'm not interested in editing in this area. You are not being investigated in any way. As a protest I have written a strikethrough mark through my name at the following location. [1] If you are not happy about your treatment by DS or being listed on this noticeboard, then I would encourage you to do the same. I hope I have clarified your situation as I had to find out more about mine and wanted to share the results with you. I wish you good editing in Wikipedia, Crtew (talk) 09:52, 19 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Several of us have removed ourselves from the list as DS undid my strikethrough. It is within your right to remove your name from that list. Crtew (talk) 13:36, 19 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Those of us who challenged DS today and deleted our names were taken off the list this evening. Don't try to take your name off the list. If you want it removed, all you have to do is to request this from User:RegentsPark. Our names were taken off because DS did not use the template correctly and editors believed he was using it punitively against people to quash their edits. Crtew (talk) 23:05, 19 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Crtew. I've taken your advice. I have known for a while that I wasn't the only victim, and I'm glad you are standing up against this kind of behaviour.Applesandapples (talk) 00:42, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
You can remove the name, unless of course you've done something really to give the impression that you've misconducted yourself. But technically DS should not be the one to add you to the list (he was not, and still isn't, an uninvolved administrator). Even more so if he was involved in an ongoing dispute with you while or soon before giving you the notice. See this. Mr T(Talk?) (New thread?) 08:31, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

International Crimes Tribunal (Bangladesh)

edit

Has HRW really criticised the ICT for "questions of conflict of interest and and goverment pressure to produce a guilty verdict"? I am not seeing that in the source at all. Darkness Shines (talk) 00:32, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

There are four other references for that sentence. And please do not use my user page for discussions about specific articles, talk pages are more appropriate. Applesandapples (talk) 00:38, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Ok, please tell me however which reference supports your addition. As having looked at them I cannot find anything which supports it. Darkness Shines (talk) 00:44, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Oh I get it, it looks like the first clause of the sentence was changed by someone without me noticing. Will break up the sentence so that it reflects the sources. Cheers Applesandapples (talk) 00:56, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

A&A

Could you take a look at these and see if there is anything of use for Ziauddin's article? Thank you, Crtew (talk) 07:24, 14 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

A Google search yielded only Skypegate-related articles from here (except for this [2] but the links are broken)
  • Radio interviews (Language: Bangla)
The beginning of the first video has some biographical information. I did a little digging at there is a Prothom Alo interview from 21/11/2010 from which the biographical information was copied almost verbatim. I started translating it, but at some point I realised it was a waste of time apart from the introduction because the interview itself was 100% discussion of the war crimes and the ICT etc. The same seems to apply to the other interviews. To be honest, I'm always more comfortable working with text. Anyway, here's the introductory paragraph from the Prothom Alo article, hope it's useful:

Doctor Ahmed Ziauddin studied law, international law, international crime and topics in government and development in Bangladesh and Belgium. In Belgium he founded an establishment called Bangladesh Centre For Genocide Studies. He is a member of a USA-based organisation of international genocide experts. He has worked as a specialist in international law and justice in various Asian countries including Afghanistan, Nepal, Pakistan, Mongolia, Cambodia, Thailand and Laos. He was the convenor of the International Criminal Court's Asia network. Through this, he worked closely on the drawing up of the ICC's Rome Declaration and Bangladesh's signing of it. Now he travels to Bangladesh to work on preparing trials for international crimes which took place in 1971 during the war of independence.

Applesandapples (talk) 03:28, 15 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the translation and I added a line to Ziauddin's lead using this. Have you seen the new search tool with Bangali features? pipilika Crtew (talk) 08:55, 15 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Wasn't aware of it, and thanks for the tip, but not too sure of its advantages over Google. Applesandapples (talk) 02:25, 16 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Kader Siddique, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Razakar (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Removing valid reference in Shahbag Protest

edit

Just wanted to inform you that I have reinstated a valid reference that you removed from the Historical Context section. Please read the reference first before removing it. Thanks! Shantonu.hossain (talk) 16:48, 17 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

The reference is a summary of Quader Mollah's verdict, which includes the ICT's version of history. The source cannot be used as a historical reference, as the ICT's version of events is neither neutral nor a source with a reputation for fact-checking or accuracy. See WP:IRS. You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware, Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made; that is to say, editors are not automatically "entitled" to three reverts.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. DMacks (talk) 16:45, 9 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I think your "one editor against many" comment is ill-judged. Wikipedia is not a numbers game - I would much rather you looked at the individual edits concerned and weigh up who is being more reasonable. Applesandapples (talk) 04:54, 11 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Care to comment on an SPI?

Hi A&A, I'm wondering if you'd be kind enough to comment on this SPI where Darkness Shines has shown up quite predictably. [3] Aminul802 (talk) 20:39, 9 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I've had a look and commented. Applesandapples (talk) 04:41, 11 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Your recent editing history at Ghulam Azam shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. DMacks (talk) 01:50, 15 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Da Zhang Wei

edit

The article Da Zhang Wei has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
