7Bone Burger Co. moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, 7Bone Burger Co., is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hi! I'm so sorry, I was working through it today. Thank you! Ashleyknowsthings (talk) 20:45, 29 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Please check carefully when reverting vandalism

edit

Hi. Thank you very much for reverting vandalism, but please check carefully that you have done the right bits, otherwise what you do may be a bit ineffective or even positively unhelpful. This is your edit that I am talking about. Can you see why? If you want the learning experience then great but if you would rather I just told you then please say so! Either way is fine for me. Hope this helps, best wishes DBaK (talk) 20:51, 17 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi DBaK,
I am confident that no mistake was made on that reversion. The revert on there wasn't for vandalism.
The edit the user had made changed 'European heat wave' to 'european heatwave' which of course is not correct as we know. As such, the revert was made.
Am I missing anything here? I really appreciate you reaching out to me!
Ashley Ashleyknowsthings (talk) 20:54, 17 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hold on!
I'm only now seeing it. My apologies. I was hasty to revert the grammatical update that I missed their prior vandalism - I didn't see that! So sorry.
Thank you for notifying me of this.
Ashley Ashleyknowsthings (talk) 20:56, 17 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Aha brilliant, well done, and thank you for the nice reply!
When I am looking at stuff like that I try to look back at the history a bit and also maybe a quick look at the editor's contribs, because sometimes they follow a bit of vandalism with some more-legit editing ... whether this is deliberate concealment or boredom or what, who knows!?? ClueBot's interventions can also muddy the water sometimes, though most of the time it's useful.
Thanks again for your hard work and for responding so professionally to this.
Cheers, DBaK (talk) 21:02, 17 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much for the pointers there - as you know I’m still quite new to it all, so I appreciate all the help I can get.
I’ll ensure that I check over editor & edit history alike in the future.

Recent PCR request

edit

Hi Ashleyknowsthings, I watchlist the pending changes reviewer request page and saw this question from you there. I was going to let someone else answer it because I had no time and some admin who usually grants these rights probably had a better idea of the requirements, but the bot archived it before anyone did, so here's my best shot at it.

I got pending changes reviewer around a year and a half ago whilst having around ~500 mainspace edits and ~1000 in total, I probably could've gotten the userright if I applied sooner, but it really depends on the editor and what edits are made. Generally edit count matters very little while trying to gauge a user's experience on Wikipedia. This is somewhat confusing and it's probably best not to think about getting new permissions just now.

I did a quick skim of your edit history and found that many of them are undoing other editor's edits, you might find twinkle and/or ultraviolet as really helpful userscripts (think of userscripts like browser add-ons) for this especially if you are on a computer. Remember to warn the users after reverting if necessary or type them a talk page message if none of the templates apply or if the edit summary doesn't fully explain the issue. (Twinkle and Ultraviolet will make it a lot easier!)

Whilst typing this message, I saw the above draft in review (seems to be stuck in the queue for some time, the long queue is getting better though), I took a look at it, seems to be an edgy case that I'm unsure of. Whilst having the BBC cover it, that article is more about the fire and the subsequent response than it is the restaurant chain, without non region specific news sources the article may have some policy related issues down the line.

Regardless, thanks for all your work on Wikipedia, sorry if this is way too long, and feel free to ping me if you have any questions. Justiyaya 13:31, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Justiyaya,
Thank you so much for the information - both on the userrights and the user scripts.
I'm still getting the hang of Wikipedia, so I appreciate the information.
I'm going to dig up more sources and information to cover the chain page. It was my first attempt at making an article and I went into it with no clue how to ahah.
Kindest,

Level 1 warning after final warning

edit

I noticed that you gave an IP a level 1 warning after they had already received a final warning for vandalism. May I ask why you did this? ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 19:02, 25 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Blaze, from what I could tell the user came back after your warning to further vandalism. Apologies for the incorrect warning - that's on me!
Ashley Ashleyknowsthings (talk) 19:03, 25 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
It's alright. Usually if a user has received a final warning recently (within a week or less depending on whether or not they got temp blocked after that final warning) the next step would be to report them to WP:AIV. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 19:05, 25 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I also popped a report on via ARV too for the IP AFAIK. Noted though, thank you so much!
Ashley Ashleyknowsthings (talk) 19:08, 25 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
No problem! If you have any questions feel free to ask! ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 19:08, 25 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Oh dear! All good, hope your Discord gets sorted soon!
Ashley Ashleyknowsthings (talk) 19:16, 25 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Oh it's nothing bad. I would elaborate more but the reasoning is personal and not something I'm willing to publicly share. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 19:20, 25 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
No problem! I'm glad to hear it's not anything bad. Ashleyknowsthings (talk) 19:21, 25 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Linking in warning templates

edit

Just a FYI, try pasting just the title of the article in the warning after the |, not the whole URL. The template automatically does this so it's trying to make a wikilink out of a URL. Cheers to a fellow non-script vandalism fighter! Gatemansgc (TɅ̊LK) 19:48, 25 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi there!
Thank you so much for the tip - I was desperately trying to figure out why I was deadlinking so much.
Ashley Ashleyknowsthings (talk) 19:49, 25 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
You're welcome! When copying after the revert I usually end up picking up the trailing period cause it'll be like "Reverted edits by 137.164.89.209 (talk) to last revision by SunDawn (talk | contribs).
Return to Odin." so I copy the "Odin." since it's faster than trying to precisely position and after I type in the Subst:uw-nameoftemplate1| I paste the Odin. and hit backspace before I close with the } and }. It'll become natural over time! Gatemansgc (TɅ̊LK) 19:54, 25 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
That's a really nifty tip! Thank you!

John B. Timberlake

edit

Mind explaining how I disrupted John B. Timberlake article or why you threw the baby out with the bathwater? Did you even look at the edits in question. 107.122.161.37 (talk) 02:46, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Use of unnecessary key words such as 'around' and 'teenage', please - treat all editors with kindness! Ashley Ashleyknowsthings (talk) 02:48, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
As far as treating all editors with kindness, take your own advice. I used the word "teenaged" because in 1816 -- when Margaret O'Neill married John Timberlake -- it is not at all clear she was 17 as her birthday is in December. She may have been 16. And Timberlake's year of birth is approximate and his date of birth is unknown. But then that's called research and consistency. How about you remove the over-the-top and undeserved warning message you plastered on my talk page as a sign of "kindness" since the quibbles you cited above as the reason for your actions don't meet your burden. 107.122.161.37 (talk) 02:56, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi there,
The warning message was not over-the-top or undeserved. The warning message is the same first instance warning that everybody gets, so please do not take offence! It is there to help you learn, if you want to drop me a message on my talk page I’m always happy to help you out and give you some advice.
Ashley Ashleyknowsthings (talk) 03:04, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi Ashleyknowsthings, I do think the template was a bit over the top. I don't think the edits were disruptive in any way and they were made in good faith. I don't think it merited a revert or a warning.
Regardless, that was a lot of reverts made in a day. I randomly looked at some of them and although most of them looked good, some, like Special:Diff/1135636172 (was likely in good faith and you shouldn't have given a vandalism warning) and Special:Diff/1135628934 (punctuation mistake after revert too) was a bit problematic. You might enjoy the Counter Vandalism Academy to learn more about reverting, warning, and reporting users. Though you figured a lot of stuff out on your own, I would say you would still benefit from 60-70% of the stuff taught there. Anyways thanks for your work here and happy editing! Justiyaya 04:04, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, @Justiyaya for your insightful comments. I am deleting Ashley's nonsense warning from my talk page and restoring my edits. 107.122.161.37 (talk) 04:39, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Eh calling it nonsense wasn't that civil and per WP:BLANKING removing stuff from own talk page is almost always allowed. Justiyaya 04:55, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Justiyaya, @Ashleyknowsthings -- apologies. Happy New Year, belatedly. 107.122.161.37 (talk) 05:47, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi there, Justiyaya made a type there, the intent was 'is almost always never allowed', as the rule does not permit for you to remove warnings from your talk page. Please keep this in mind for the future.
Like Justiyaya said, please refresh yourself on our rules of Wikipedia:Civility, we're all here for the common good. Ashleyknowsthings (talk) 10:02, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
