Baseball league leaders edits

edit
  • It is great that you like to update the league leaders for the current baseball season, but please wait until all of the games have been played for the day and update them all for every spot that is needed. Thank you.
    • I would like to second this. If you are going to update the league leaders, do them all please instead of picking and choosing. Thank you in advance.

Justus Sheffield

Sheffield and German have not yet been promoted. They will be promoted on Tuesday. Checking the roster link could've confirmed that. Please don't do this again. – Muboshgu (talk) 00:39, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Adrián Beltré

edit

I reverted your addition to Adrián Beltré because:

  • You didn't provide a citation for the information
  • You inserted the information immediately before an existing citation: this could mislead the reader into thinking that the information you added was referenced and that the preceding statement ("most hits by a foreign-born player, surpassing Ichiro Suzuki") wasn't, when the opposite is true.
  • The information itself was somewhat vague: what sort of "send-off" was given exactly?

Luis Arraez moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Luis Arraez, does not have sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Thanks for uploading File:GVKNFPVQBUI6TJPIHE2PSPSJ2I.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. Speedy deletion nomination of File:GVKNFPVQBUI6TJPIHE2PSPSJ2I.jpg

edit

A tag has been placed on File:GVKNFPVQBUI6TJPIHE2PSPSJ2I.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. source jersey numbers

edit

Just a reminder, jersey numbers need sources just like everything else. A player previously wearing a number doesn't mean they'll wear it on a new team. When Zunino became a Ray last season, you added him as #3 everywhere because he was #3 as a Mariner, even though he ended up wearing #10. Hunter Renfroe wearing #10 as a Padre doesn't mean Zunino will switch, and it also doesn't mean Zunino will switch back to #3, because why wouldn't he have just taken #3 in the first place? Detroit Tigers roster numbers

edit

Hi there! Just wanted to ask you to please stop updating jersey numbers on the Tigers roster page in the event of new signings if they are not confirmed. This is echoing a previous talk page comment, but just because a player may have worn a jersey number with a previous team does not mean they'll wear it for their new team. Please refrain from editing jersey numbers until there is confirmation by the team either in a press conference, on their website, or via another media release. Thank you! Cubs players numbers

edit

Hey man I am just curious where did you find all these Cubs players numbers for the new acquisitions. I checked the MLB at Bat app for the Cubs and their office website and it has 2 dashes for them/no number for them. Could you send me the link for the website you got them from? ParkerLyme (talk) 03:07, 24 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

I have the same question as well, but for Toronto Blue Jays players. For example, where do you get the source that Tyler Chatwood's number is 30 and Kirby Yates' number is 36? I have checked various reliable baseball roster websites, including mlb.com, and they mostly have them with the numbers 32 (despite that number being retired to honour Roy Halladay) and 39, respectively. If you can't find the source(s), your edits to various players' and team rosters' articles constitute original research at best and original research is prohibited. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 04:42, 24 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
I will go ahead and change Kirby Yates' number to #39 per official website. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 17:25, 24 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I fully understand why I have been blocked from making edits on Wikipedia. I promise it will not happen again and will be more communitive on this website. Astros1962 (talk) 00:21, 26 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

Being uncommunicative is part of why you were blocked. The main reason, however, is that you're adding unsourced content. Where are you getting this information, why aren't you citing sources when asked, and why are you ignoring requests to do so on your talk page? At the very least, show us that you're capable of following our core policy of verifiability by citing your source here on your talk page. Once you do that, maybe we can shorten the block or unblock you. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 01:25, 26 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Not credible at all; we still lack answers to the question above the block notice, for starters. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 00:56, 26 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Important notice

edit

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Per Special:Diff/1002781706, you have introduced not just original research or failed to cite an existing source. You have, instead, made up the numbers.

This is completely unacceptable. If you ever edit a biography under this "habit" again, you will be indefinitely topic banned from editing biographical articles in the future, without further warning. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 20:36, 27 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

I have to agree, that response is completely unacceptable and shows a complete misunderstanding of the most basic policies regarding what Wikipedia is and how it works. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:24, 27 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Per policy, Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. Some players have favorite numbers they like to keep when they change teams, but you should not assume that before the new team verifies his number. – wbm1058 (talk) 02:56, 31 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
@ToBeFree: Should any potential topic bans include all sports-related articles on top of all biographical articles, given that Astros1962 also edits roster templates, as well as articles on other sports and their players? By the way, I agree that making up jersey numbers is definitely prohibited on Wikipedia as making up anything, including jersey numbers, harms Wikipedia's reputation, especially given that Wikipedia articles on individual players show up among the first few results of Google, Bing, or DuckDuckGo. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 01:03, 1 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi Johnny Au, a "broadly construed" BLP ban should probably encompass this automatically. Anything beyond that wouldn't be justifiable using the discretionary sanctions procedure, as far as I know -- unless there's one for sports too. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 13:44, 1 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

All right, I'll make sure to use those instead. Thanks for the info. Astros1962 (talk) 02:51, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Bay Area Game Logs

edit

Hi,

I was wondering if I could take the lead on updating the game logs for both of the Bay Area baseball teams for the remainder of this season. I am from the Bay Area and are a big fan of both of them. I promise to get them updated within 5 minutes of their completion unless I have problems with getting the proper attendance number. Please respond when you have time. GoWarriors151718 (talk) 05:15, 1 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Sure, that's fine with me. Astros1962 (talk) 18:53, 1 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Game logs MLB

edit

Could you please give me like a 2 minute window after the A's and Giants games to go final please so that I can at least have an opportunity to make the edits? If I don't make the edits within the 2 minutes then by all means go ahead and do them yourself. That would be much appreciated. I had the A's edits ready yesterday but then I got an edit conflict alert. I hope you understand. GoWarriors151718 (talk) 22:42, 26 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Calendar Flips MLB

edit

Hi. I was wondering for the teams that I don’t normally update (game by game) if I could be in charge of changing which month is visible. I was thinking that you could update the game results for today but not change the month and then as soon as I see your edit then I would go in and change the month. I’m sorry if this is confusing in any way. GoWarriors151718 (talk) 20:11, 31 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, that sounds fine, although for the Blue Jays one, i'd wait until the red sox play their game before changing the month so I can update it fully. Astros1962 (talk) 20:26, 31 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Astros1962 Okay. I took a look at the page and I figured out why that is. I will wait for your edit first before I switch the month on the Blue Jays page. GoWarriors151718 (talk) 22:34, 31 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Astros1962 Thanks for letting me edit the calendars for nearly all the MLB teams. Next month (end August-begin September) I think it would be better if I just focus on the NL and AL West teams (10 teams). Thanks. GoWarriors151718 (talk) 03:59, 1 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hey. Can I help with calendar flips again please? I am only interested in doing them for the AL and NL west teams so you can take care of the non west teams. Thanks. GoWarriors151718 (talk) 01:19, 1 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Noah Syndergaard

You've been here long enough to know better than to change that without even adding a source. Nevermind the fact that you've been here long enough to know that the sources all say "according to reports" or "pending a physical", and that we wait for the team's official announcement before we change a page because we're not a newspaper. We don't break news. – Muboshgu (talk) 03:40, 17 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

The Angels announced it on their official twitter. Here's the link confirming the signing, https://twitter.com/Angels/status/1460811270215536644. Also, I've learned my lesson from February, I make sure the team's confirmed it on Twitter before I change things. And I also change the numbers only if the team has it on their website. Astros1962 (talk) 03:54, 17 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page.
