editHello, I'm WikiDan61. I wanted to let you know that I undid one or more of your recent contributions to Seán McManus (priest) because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. The text you added to the article was clearly intended to promote McManus' organization and his books and videos. This is an inacceptable use of Wikipedia. Please keep your writing at Wikipedia neutral and non-promotional. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:24, 26 January 2016 (UTC)
Sean McManus
editPlease do not continue to add text that has already been reverted. That is called edit warring and can get you blocked. Rather, since you made an edit that was reverted, discuss the matter at the article's talk page. In discussing your proposed changes, please keep in mind that Wikipedia requires articles to maintain a neutral point of view. It is one thing to state that McManus was sent to the US because of his activism (although this needs a citation); it is quite a less neutral thing to state that he was "exiled by Church and State". Further, we don't need an entire article section on the Irish National Caucus since we have an entire Wikipedia article on that topic, and even if we did need such a section, we wouldn't need one that is as promotional of the organization as what you had written. Please keep these points in mind as you discuss your proposed changes at Talk:Seán McManus (priest). WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:11, 26 January 2016 (UTC)
- Again, rather than simply go back and forth undoing each others' edits, I invite you to join the discussion that I have started at Talk:Seán McManus (priest). Wikipedia is a collaborative site; it works best when we work together to improve articles. It doesn't work when any one editor assumes that they own an article. So, let's talk. Copyright violation
editYou may not copy text verbatim from other websites to add to Wikipedia. Doing so is a violation of Wikipedia's copyright violation policy. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:41, 26 January 2016 (UTC)
- I will reiterate, more strongly: you may not copy text verbatim from another website to use at Wikipedia. Doing so is a copyright violation and repeated offenses will get you blocked. Your addition to the Irish National Caucus article was copied directly from the organization's website. Even if they gave permission for the material to be used, it is entirely too non-neutral to be of use to Wikipedia. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 03:15, 27 January 2016 (UTC)

Edit warring at Seán McManus (priest)
editYou've been warned for edit warring and copyright violations per a complaint at WP:AN3 (permalink). See the cautionary note in that posting. If you want to add more material, you are advised to get consensus at the article's talk page first. Thank you, EdJohnston (talk) 17:07, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
- Clearly you didn't take this warning to heart. While the change from "Irish Nationalist" to "human rights activist" might be warranted, given Mc Manus' later involvement with the Holy Land (although it's not clear that he actually did anything to lobby for the Middle East other than write a book about the situation), given your prior history with the article, and the warning you received, the change should have been discussed first.
